or a stumbling Barca-Grimsby v a booming Real Lincoln...

I'd settle for the 1892-93 relativities at the end of the season...5 places above Lincoln and I think we'll go up. This game deserves its own thread, not one mixed up with some Jonny Come Lately Essex outfit...
DIVISION TWO

I assume Jones and Mann were given a bit of a rest last night and will start on Saturday. Hopefully along with Rose. I'm going for a 2-2 draw...

Most of our current back 4 were just babies back then.

Limerick Mariner, by far the best codhead on here. A fitting person to begin proceedings.

With the measly 3000 in attendance at BP last night I assume the club are providing a parking space for our bandwagon and for the one the extra 2000 Mariners will be arriving on also?

Good idea actually Wimpish. And I would still pick one of the Grimsby stands even if I had the option of standing with the Imps fans. Didn't you check out SOC's Lincoln crowd trouble thread?

To be fair to Pimpish in the 9 months he has been supporting Lincoln he's never seen any hint of trouble.

Well that saddens me. You'd certainly have a choice of all 3 so pick wisely. Yes I did briefly, factually inaccurate much of it but cute.

It wasn't there to be factually correct, cute or to get all your Impy knickers in a bunch of twists. It was there to reinforce how pathetic whichever Lincoln fans on here were when they used to berate us whenever there was a spot of trouble from us. A point that GodsGift alluded to in his post. I'm sure you'll pretend you got that now that I've explained it to you, though!

It should be, but Sky did not have any space to put all their gear in as the car park has been reserved for Lincoln's bandwagons.

To be fair I think fans from both know there are numpties that follow each club.

Weird, innit, because most here probably feel as though we've had quite a solid start given the games we've had, yet I get the impression that the Cods are disappointed with theirs.

Arnold's apparently back in the squad for this one, but I doubt he'll start. Probably the same XI as Barnet.

Couldn't get a ticket for this. :lac:

Wow, that's got to be annoying. Very pleased Arnold probably won't make it back, would have been nailed on to score and probably even get boo'd which would have been ridiculous.

Here you go - I've been in that funny little side stand at Lincoln for the derby a couple of times, I'd recommend the Main Stand as our equivalent safe house for humble visiting fans like yourself (rather than the Pontoon...)

Haha, thanks, but I think I'll pass on going in the home end!

Knowing my luck, I'd get spotted by a Fenty, pointed out and then beaten up by those around me for being an Imp!

And in other news, Luke Imp was finally found at Blundell Park having been thermos-whipped and tied to a 120 year old stanchion with tartan rugs...

It was a relatively low quality game but Lincoln edged it. They held the ball up better, had better shaping and got more supporting players into play in the final third. It's my first 90 min view of the Cowley Way and its mostly as I expected. Excellent shape, excellent marshalling of our players when we were in possession - forcing poor passes or a hoof forward, which simply came back. I can see they are a side that will feed well off defensive mistakes in the final third, no doubt that is what got them the Conference title at a canter; and they did this today to an extent but Jimmy Mack made a small number of vital saves.

It was the best I've seem from our former York City midfield that the top League one manager secured on long contracts for us. Summerfield in particular, he may not be a proper footballer but he does well as a damn nuisance to the opposition with his energy - still say he's a poor man's John Cockerill...

Mann was disappointing and Vernon linked up our play better when he came on. Dembele was generally well marshalled but still opened up space for us a few times. Woolford had good energy, Jones didn't get the ball in good positions enough, I'm still wondering if he could be the box to box midfielder we've not had since Nolan. Clarke and Dixon helped create most of Lincoln opportunities...

Some different songs and almost constant noise from the Osmond, the Upper Findus and Pontoon somewhat intermittent, but the inspiration from the pitch was lacking...

Fair points on us, apart from the feeding off defensive mistakes bit. Set pieces was a big part last season with over half of our 100+ goals coming from them.

The easier part for us has been maintaining a decent defensive unit, albeit with changed personnel. We had that last season so it's pleasing that even with the step up in quality we've managed to continue that and it keeps us in games and throughout last season, we were generally very good out of possession and probably stronger that way than with the ball.

But we're having to completely change the way we attack this season. We rightly gave it a chance for the first 5-8 games, because it served us well last season but moving Rhead out of the side and putting Knott in there is a huge indication of a shift in thinking and as a result of that, we're having to play to Knott's strengths, which are the opposite of Rhead and the way we've played for more than a year.

Not ideal having to make such big changes during the season but one that is needed IMO.
