My first home game in a few months, don't think I've missed a great deal mind! In the reverse fixture, we managed a grand total of zero shots, so an improvement on that would be a start. Going for 0-1, McGurk to score.

Obviously a very tough game, not helped with injuries and a suspension. However, we did play for 60+minutes with 10 men at Burton, so let's not be too harsh on that performance. If we can get something here, it will definitely help confidence but with McGurk, Weir and Akins there, we are going to do very well to avoid the curse of the ex-player. That being said, who knows. If we show up, we can beat Shrewsbury and Wycombe and if we don't, we can lose to York and Cheltenham.

I'll go 1-1 and that would be a good result.

McGurk always seemed to perform better away from Prenton Park, so I'd be more inclined to have a punt on Weir or Akins to score or even Sherrif. Never seen Burton play before.

I wonder if Adams will venture into the loan market again. We haven't really got a defensive midfielder to cover for the suspended Jennings and Gardner is likely to return to Chesterfield when his 28 days ends. Must get something out of this game.

No need to worry about Weir anymore - sent off tonight.
Or McGurk looks like injured again. We will soon have no players left and if it helps ill snap your hand off for a point now

This is the type of game I expect tranmere to win.

They beat Shrewsbury a few weeks ago and after their midweek win, I expect them to continue their revival and go on a run that will pull them away from danger.

Away win for me, think Burton will walk the ball in through our midfield and defence.

Not sure we will have enough fit players to fill the bench ! So hard game to predict, will post again when I know what sort of side we can put out.

The Brewers will have to play with a changed side but with such a strong squad I don't think it will affect them too much.
Would take a point but expect us to go for 3. Tranmere look like they have plenty of injuries too so a hard game to predict but I will stick my neck out and say 1-0 to the Albion.

Surprise, surprise, more shambolic defending us costing us again. Just waiting for Jeremy beadle to jump out and tell us it's all a big joke and Micky Adams isn't really a football manager and Dugdale actually works full time in Tesco.

Hopefully we'll be put out of our misery sooner rather than later so I don't have to watch that absolute shower of shit the last few games of the season.

Was unable to go due to work commitments but got job finished early and listened on radio. Sounds like Albion coasted through 1st half until Odejaye scored a wonder goal, gave away a penalty which McLaughlin saved for the 2nd game running and then recovered to finish the game off clinically. Looking very good for the Brewers but dire for Tranmere going into the last 8 games.

Where to begin? First goal, the ball clearly went out of play and there was a handball in the build up. Max was also unlucky - not the wost pen in the world - we were on top at that point and I would have fancied us to win had he scored. As it was, our heads dropped and we let Burton take the game away from us with some more shite defending. 4-1 was a little flattering in my view anyway.
Burton were nothing special in all honesty, just played well enough as a team to see off our Vanamara North standard defence. Seeing Ridehalgh being terrorised by Lucas Akins of all people...

According to friends who went they said similar but didn't mention about the ball going out or the handball ! We had a similar sort of thing for Southend's goal in midweek. Due to injuries and suspension Albion where quite a changed line up so not at their best but good enough on the day. Max Power's penalty was well hit but well saved from what they told me.
Clinical finishing and a bit of luck at the right times today gave us the edge from the radio commentary.
Starting to think this is Albion's season.

With regards the game, Burton came out like a rocket and it was about 5 minutes before we crossed half way. Then both sides had a couple of chances before what looked like Rory Donnelly ran the ball out, but was allowed to play on and put a cross into the Burton box. The ball came straight down the same wing and the same linesman watched as Lucas Akins clearly ran the ball out and then, in a seeming attempt to even it up, was allowed to carry on (as some of our players looked to have stopped) and put the cross in, but it was a hell of a finish in fairness. The second was just shocking defending.
Then Odejayi hit a wonder goal and we put in a good effort until the penalty in the second half. If the ref gave it for handball, surely he has to go? Then your captain ran up and kicked the ball off the spot, for which he was yellowed. It was a decent enough penalty and good save, before the ball seemed to go behind for our goal kick, but the Burton player was allowed to play on as if the ball didn't go out (seeing a theme here?) and it was 3-1 with another very good finish. Awful defending made it 4-1 and that was that.
Was surprised to see how cynical Burton were though.

We had a very early chance which Hugill totally fluffed. There was also a poor set-piece from JMW, which Burton intercepted and carried the length of the pitch as the White Sea parted, only for Fonners to make a decent save. We didn't heed the warning. Burton's first goal looked out in the build-up, but there was ample time to recover the situation. The second had a hint of offside, marking woeful. The third was again down to poor marking and by the time of the last, we'd thrown in the towel.

Don't think we can complain about losing, but the scoreline beyond flattering to the visitors. Aside from an awesome volley from Odejayi it was a pretty shit day again.

Delighted to have won, in a game we could have lost. I would have took a point before.

If tranmere show the spirit they shown in parts of that game they will stay up. They played some good stuff in parts.

Just need to cut out the kamikaze defending.

Can't be arsed to start a new thread, but curious as to whether Burton have one of the bigger budgets in L2, as has been suggested in a Rovers forum?

I'd find that very hard to believe, given our crowds, our history of spending (or lack of), and the fact that there are teams like Oxford, Luton, Bury and Portsmouth who I'm sure are streets ahead of us in terms of budget.

However, we're very carefully managed, and I expect that we get the maximum benefit out of every penny spent. Also, we've had some decent transfer fees in the past year or two (Kee, MacDonald) which I imagine have been used to allow us to spend slightly more on wages than we would have done otherwise.

Ultimately, we'll never know.

Thanks. It seemed more speculation based on the idea that JFH wouldn't have gone to a club without some financial resource, but as you say we're likely to remain in the dark.

How has Beavon done this season Burton fans?

We paid £275k for him as a goal scorer which he clearly isn't but this is what he was mainly judged on by PNE fans. I liked him, classy player who contributes to goals rather than scoring them himself. I was disappointed to see him go but it was a good move all-round in hindsight I think.

Vying for player of the year, along with Mousinho, and a firm fan favourite.

As you say, more of a creator than a scorer, but a striker like that is perfect for this Burton team because the goals are shared around. It's pretty remarkable that we're top of the league but we don't have a single player in the top 25 scorers, and our top scorers (Akins, Beavon, McGurk) only have 6 goals each. Possibly a reflection of the fact that it's a low scoring league this year as well.

Have to say i'm gobsmacked that Mousinho has been one of your best players, I'd say he's the worst midfielder i've seen play for Preston.

You're comparing apples and oranges: a League 1 CM is very different to a League 2 CB

Mousinho is playing in central defence for us, not in midfield. He's been a colossus for us there since he filled in at the back during an injury crisis. Stuart Beavon has been absolute mustard up front, his work rate and endeavour has certainly endeared him to the fans. Basically we are a strong team and squad who play well together with no real standout stars.
