Sorry you lads, called off as you will know at 10.30 this am after discussions
with both clubs. I expect some of you will have already set off before the postponement and yes, you can be rightly p...off
I think some may already be up there for the weekend tbh. Most of our lot called it though tbf as a 400 mile round trip isn’t something you do lightly on a day like today! Suspect half the 300-350 or so who would have gone today now won’t make the Tuesday evening fixture but hey ho, dems the breaks.

Thankfully being an early kick off meant I couldn’t go as i’d promised my Daughter I’d take her out for dinner thinking I could go to the match afterwards, only this morning did I realise it was half 12 kick off so couldn’t go.
RESULT!!
Good to see that you have dinner at DINNER time,

At least in that game we threw some stuff at them. That was just 90 minutes of slow possession football, of course we ‘dominate’ teams, our entire team are in midfield!

We have one legitimate goal threat, Jatta. Everyone else is trying to take 4-5 touches deep. We’ve not been clinical enough the last few weeks but Maynard’s tactics don’t help, not enough players crashing the box with any urgency and when we do fashion a chance, it’s taken us so long to do it they’ve got 10 men on the line ready to block it
I call it the 'Andy Crosby' style. Pass it around for fun so that the possession stats look good and then either give up and boot it towards one big man on his own, or lose the ball and get done on the counter.

You'll beat a lot of teams because you've got quality in there but it has to be mixed up with some more direct stuff. With the players you've got, it seems to make sense.

Yes, he's been around the first team squad now since he was 16 and he will no doubt be the next one to go for big money. He has all of the attributes to really make it; he's very quick, really strong and powerful and good at all of the off the ball and hold up side of the game. Up until this season his biggest problems have been not scoring enough goals and spending too much of his time falling over and trying to get into scraps, but he seems to be curbing that more recently. Was forming a terrific partnership with Taylor earlier in the season too before he got injured and his absence has hit us quite hard.

I actually thought he wasn't quite on it today, his touch was sloppy and struggled to get much of a sniff. But, again, the conditions couldn't have helped and I guess he did all of the aforementioned off the ball work well still.
I also thought he looked good against us but he's the biggest fucking baby you've ever seen. Plays like a 5 year old. Some of his histrionics were embarrassing and to be honest he doesn't need to do it.

Today was a game where Jones or Crowley make the telling difference. Yet, we shouldn't need that/them to be the difference.

Palmer plays too slow and safe since his return and that's hurting us. Austin and Brown not good enough. Abbott once again impressive. Replace one of those with Jones we win but we should have enough to win games without L2s best player.

Not brave enough from Part Time Stu today. Unlike last week he had enough at his disposal. I think it's linked to his underdog past at Wealdstone.

Agreed - it has been becoming much more infrequent though so he is maturing. Kwame Poku was the same age when he left for Peterborough, and Tovide has a far more about him for me.

Goals everywhere in the other divisions. 4 goals in 7 games so far in League Two. Not great.

Great line on Twatter about how we play like we’re up against peak Milan with Baresi Maldini etc. Probing probing but creating fuck all really in the way of good openings.

Notts fans really trying to be grown up and not slag the head coach off, but Christ alive other than a few gimmes at the start of the season when everyone was fit his record is fucking abysmal.

Agreed, he looks to have all the raw ingredients to be a top player. Just concentrate on the football, stay on your feet and don't get involved would be my advice to him.

Can't comment on your other games this season, but there was some football in you today. Issue is, you don't seem to have any standout features to your play. You aren't big and physical like Colchester are, you aren't quick, you aren't particularly technical, I don't see a lot of goals and creativity in you. Clearly got a solid defence and can do to teams what Colchester did to you today in terms of grinding out results. Need some quality upfront in January I think. Callum Ainley playing on the wing in 2024 is criminal, Artell tried it dozens of times at Crewe and it never worked.

Thought the conditions and pitch made it a tough game, though to be fair I struggle to remember a time when the Blundell Park pitch wasn't an uneven, bobbly mess.
Ainley on the wing? What game you watching? The wide players were Luker on the right and Barrington on the left! Even after the substitution Ainley was never on the wing.

You can’t be very old as in the past Blundell Park often won awards for the best pitch in whatever division . That won’t be the case this season due to well publicised problems.

As for the game, I thought it was a very poor league 2 game, but on balance, Colchester just about deserved due to lack of creativity and decent forward play from Grimsby. Don’t tell Artell though as he said Grimsby created loads of chances.

Fair play to the Colchester fans who travelled. 237 or whatever it was, for a 12.30 start, on Sky TV, game in doubt up to kick off, blowing a hoolie

Harrogate now 2-1 up at Gillingham. For Bonner it’s just as well they beat us a couple of weeks ago or he might well be under some considerable pressure.

Genuinely taking the piss with the amount of late goals we concede, something's got to change.

That's the first time Ainley has started this season I think and certainly first time he's been on the wing, but then its pretty obvious so far that Svanthorsson is not good enough either. We definitely need better attacking options but that's been the case for about 4 seasons!

Problem with Davis and Thompson coming back and Khouri and Green having such good seasons is we have too many central options now and no good winger options, and only one decent striker.
Barrington wasted a lot of final third possession. Think I prefer him in a more central role behind Rose like he played at Salford.

Of course, if we'd had Vernam fit we'd have won at a canter...now we've Thompson and Davies fit we need to change our injured player excuses. To be fair Thompson was mostly excellent.

Only 1 home win from 7 fixtures. Such an even league this season.

Bottom of that table I think Swindon are in deep trouble as Carlisle seem to be slowly steadying the ship now and Adams is an expert in this sort of thing.

Could have been worse for us without kicking a ball today. Walsall dropping points would have made it perfect but opportunity to extend the gap to fourth to 8 points for us now.

Crap again from us, really didn't like the performance. Really boring, all in front of them, predictable easy to defend. Blushes spared by the post and Barrow deciding it's probably best to leave one of our centre backs competely unmarked at a corner. Big win though.

About time we had a win like that in my eyes. Been plenty where we’ve dominated, chance after chance and ended up drawing it. Take a win like that every day of the week, especially after back to back defeats. They were shite unall tbf so their fans probably won’t have any complaints with the defeat.

Big skip though, buzzing for him.

Oh yea absolutely I will take it, just think we can and must play aot better than that. Maybe this level is much more about grinding attritional points than playing teams off the park and scoring 3 most weeks tho tbf

Unfortunately you don't need to be much more than crap to beat us at the moment. We are a bottom six side, completely toothless up front and prone to errors where we will always concede. Will be very shocked if we make it to January without a decent buffer over the bottom two.

Our board's decision to change manager in the summer becomes more ludicrous by the week.

Good point against Doncaster. Only downer is we’re now bottom of the football league. The league table doesn’t lie.

People are saying “if we battle like that we’ll stay up” well I get that, and today was a good battling display, but it stinks of exactly this time last season when we got a battling point at home to Charlton and people said ah we won’t go down. Well we did.

We’re nearly in December and we are the worst team in the football league, rock bottom. Good point today yeah, but our fixtures don’t get any easier. Our only hope is we’re not cut adrift by January and we can add some much needed quality. I still think we’re in big big trouble and our fanbase’s relaxed things will be ok attitude makes me nervy.

It’s very hard to sum up tbf. Were some how the top goalscorers in the league with 30 yet it feels like we struggle to put sides away every week?

There’s definitely a marked difference in terms of the organisation of teams away from home at this level compared to the NL. I’d say in about 80% of our home games so far this season, every team has played the same way… sit deep, soak up pressure, and counter with pace. Teams in the league below tried it last year but ultimately didn’t have the quality much of the time to take their chances, but you see teams doing so more often.

Another issue with us at home I’m putting down to not getting a consistent side out. Feel like we’re seeing new partnerships all over the park every week. Much of it forced in fairness as we’ve had a number of injury issues this year, but would be nice for us to have a run of games with a consistent side and get a bit of flow back to our play

Anyway, back in the play offs for now heading into the FA cup weekend.

We needed a scrappy win, by any means necessary and we got it. First and last 15 mins I thought we were alright, the bit inbetween was poor though, so lacklustre. Hopefully we get some confidence from this to kick on at home
