Organised and aggressive football beats tippy tappy.
I'd guess Northampton were less popular than we were last season. Really direct, but bloody effective tonight. The Moxey fella at Exeter wants fucking for that red mist.

Welcome Northampton, nice to have a local(ish) team promoted!

Early days, but I suspect if they play that extreme in L1 they'll struggle. Teams are physically far stronger and possession based here than L2 so the battle is trying to get the ball to put it in the box.

We were beyond embarrassing last time we got promoted but at least we will put up a fight now with our style of play. So many more local ish games for us also instead of having to endure league 2 north again.

I agree that we will have to adapt a bit, but cant see Curle veering too far away from it. Although we have consistently improved since his arrival. With the amount of players going to be available I trust him to bring in enough to keep us up.

Thank god we’re up. League 2 was looking very Northern.

Which is why Crewe’s, Swindon’s and Plymouth’s tippy tappy finished miles ahead of Northampton...

Exeter bottled it again, but they’re better.

I see Alan McCormack has been released by Northampton... I’m sure he’ll get himself another club, but a shithouse like him would’ve done a job at L1 level unless his legs have completely gone in the last 12 months. I guess it was because of Covid?

Football for you I guess !

Were many of them regular?

Guess it's a case of having to get rid of some to get better quality in.

Particularly as clubs will be even less awash with money now .

I’d say 3/4 were regular.

McCormack (not fit often enough and one of the higher earners)
Turnbull - this one was a bit of a shock but again one of the higher earners and Curle spoke about ‘good housekeeping’
Andy Williams - bench striker really
Paul Anderson - played fairly regularly but was only ok at league 2 level
David Cornell - was on the bench for the playoff final

The rest were youngsters and people who didn’t cut it

Didn’t play nearly enough, and one of the highest earners. Probably couldn’t justify it with the current situation.

I Can't Take My Eyes Off the name of Andy Williams in that released list.

Singing namesake aside, he seems to have a respectable scoring record over the last decade, and we're in desperate need of an experienced forward...

He's a regular goalscorer, his goals to minutes played ratio was quite good.

In the same boat as most of us, can’t offer new contracts until we know what the hell is going on with next season.
