It won't be plain sailing and doubt we will walk it. A lot of changes will be made with the big earners and the dead wood going and even the players the manager wants to keep will have their price. Even with the parachute payments we only spent £1.3 million this season so we won't be splashing the cash. To be honest not sure how we will do.

Well Sunderland are a bigger club than the likes of Bolton, Southampton, Norwich, Wolves, Blackburn and Wigan who, Wigan excluded, all had on and off pitch issues... all pissed the league at the first attempt.

On the other hand you’ve got Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United who took a few attempts to get promoted.

You’ll be surprised at the gulf between the leagues, every lower league player and quite a few better than that will want to play for you and you’ll have more money than vast majority of teams. I just can’t envisage you not doing well. Understandable that you’re feeling gloomy though.

L1 seems to be where most of the big clubs bottom out... and most return much stronger than when they first came into the league.

My boss is a Sunderland season ticket holder, one fixture I'm looking forward to next season, just please don't let us have to go there on a Tuesday night or mid week on TV like with Blackburn.

Biggest budget of all time in the 3rd tier. The first club to drop down from the Premier League to the 3rd tier whilst still recieving parachute payments since the new TV deal.

Us and Blackburn were too strong and that was without any parachute money. We'll make a loss of 2-3m. Suspect Blackburn will make a loss of 10-15m.

Welcome Sunderland! There's a big difference in standards, which i'm sure you'll notice. I'll be expecting you to go up as champions that's for sure.

But hey ho, you never know - a relegation can sometimes be good for you. It served us excellently as we restructured the club, got rid of the dead wood and before you know it, had a double promotion

Sunderland had won 5 of their 6 Championships before WWI, and the other before WWII. By that logic Preston are just as big as Tottenham, both won 2 Championships

Preston clearly not as big as Tottenham due to:

- PL years
- Tottenham regular European appearances
- Fanbase

Sunderland have spent more time in the top tier and have a larger fanbase than Wolves.

Wolves have only started selling out Molineux in the last 4 home games or so... Molineux holds 31,700 of which 28,000 are for home fans. Sunderland have been averaging 40k+ and 35k in the second tier regularly...

We have sold out nearly every game this season. If our Stadium had the capacity we'd have 50k home fans there on Saturday, such is the demand. Has Sunderland ever taken 70k away fans to Old Trafford?
