Afternoon guys,
I was at work for most of yesterday so left most of the 'running' and initial introductions to TB. I personally haven't really had chance to express a few of my thoughts since we swapped over yesterday, so I'll take that opportunity up for now as there are a few things that I want to address.
A quick little bit of background on the site. I opened this website about 8 months ago with the intention of it being aimed solely at The Football League. I then opened a page on Facebook/Twitter and advertised the possibility of people being able to cover their own sides match reports on our 'home page' almost as a blog. I had around 80 people sign up (including some TFF'ers), however I decided to leave the site as it was for a few months in order to build my audience and then use that to the best of my ability to take the site off properly. So for some of you, this may be a 'welcome back' and to others this is a new 'home'.
Back on topic and first of all, a quick apology. IF TFF has been shut down permanently and forever not to be re-opened then I feel as though that is some of our (mine and TB's) fault. I do hope TFF comes back online at some point, mostly so we can spread the word of this new site and that so some of you can retrieve your 'work' over the last decade, say final goodbyes - it seems to have come to a rather nasty, sour and abrupt ending after 10 years and for all we know at the moment they MAY just have gone for it and done the upgrade to ensure that the site stays online permanently. Obviously TFF has been a great home for some of you for a decade or more and it is sad that all those hours, friendships, posts etc may now be completely gone without trace. Hopefully we can build a community here that is as good, if not better than TFF and keep the legacy living on for years to come.
Secondly, I'd like to 'thank' everyone that has made the effort to move across. I did fear that people wouldn't be interested in starting something new as it's a long old haul back to where we were. Not only that but people have actually backed the website financially at this early juncture - fantastic, very much welcome and without that kind of support we most certainly wouldn't be in the position we are now. I can't believe we've managed to reach so many people already and that is testament to the 'community' that we have going at the moment, I suspect people will keep trickling their way back and to us - within 24 hours we already have almost 400 members on the site, most of which are from TFF.
**Quick note to returning members - TFF stands for 'The Football Forum' - a Forum that has recently closed/closing down and most of the people who have joined in the last day or so are members that wanted to come and join a new website in order to keep the old community going**
Thirdly, I'd just like to ask a little bit of extra patience for us in the next couple of weeks. There are endless jobs to work on, organising forums, appointing mods and admins, writing up some sort of guidelines on how to use the site, getting the layout, design, rebrand and social media sorted - I'm sure there are plenty of small gripes that people have currently and I will open a proper sticky dedicated thread for all those niggles that people want sorting, however - if you can give us a couple of weeks to sort them all out properly, then we would very much appreciate that. I believe TFF had an admin/mod team of 20+ - currently we have myself and TB - we will very much be looking at expanding that shortly, but yeah you get the general point I'm making here.
Over the next few days/weeks we shall be asking the thoughts of the community on additional website features. Despite the fact that we all loved TFF, the admins themselves even noted that the site was probably a little 'dated' in terms of its basic features and what could be done. With that in mind, we shall be adding a few extra features away from the normal forum base.. The current software we run on 'Xenforo' allow us to in-build small personal blogs..we will be looking at match previews/reports from people that are interested in writing them and then throwing them out on Social media in order to get some extra 'eyes' on the site and content itself... what is currently called 'Football Betting Game' is actually our version of a prediction league, that automatically calculates scores weekly (identical to the BBC predictor), to ensure the people running them don't have to manually add individual scores up each week..and that is really just breaking the surface.
Lastly, if possible - I'd like to ask people if they could do a few things to additionally help us out.
1) Please spread this as far and wide as possible. Word of mouth, twitter, facebook, using club forums, checking the other 'football forum', social media - anything, the more word we get out there the further the site will go.
2) We will be adding social media links and an Email accounts etc to the site to be ready to use shortly, if people can follow, like, bookmark etc then that would be a great help.
3) Please post and post as much as you can, that's as important as the signing up, financially backing at the moment. If there's a thread you wouldn't have posted over on TFF, then please drop it in on here as you never know how far it may go.
4) If people have requests about old threads being re-ignited, then please don't ask - just go for it. I shall be starting the 'Current FM Career' thread later - that being a prime example...
I hope that helps and explains a little - really glad to have everybody here and I hope if TFF does come back online that people can rest-assured that there's another community waiting from April onwards, looking towards the future!
Thanks and welcome to 'OneFootballForum.co.uk'
