His assistant will be Noel Hunt, got a lot of work on his hands as we need to sign at least 12 players capable of keeping us in League 1 next season. The one thing Ritchie will get with us is time to build a team that plays the way he wants. He has stated that he wants to get us back playing the way we did under O’Driscoll, if he can do that I will be more than happy.

Good luck to him and Noel. Will be keeping half an eye out on Donny next season. This is his make or break job really after failing at Oldham and Salford. I suspect he'll be a success.

He will be given time, unlike Oldham and there won’t be any interference from above, unlike Salford, he knows the club and Copps will still be there to help out so he won’t have any excuses if he doesn’t succeed.

Uninspiring, looking at our last 3 appointments this feels like a massive downgrade.

Wellens feels like he's had a pretty average managerial career overall but despite Oldham and Salford not ending well, he had half decent win percentages there. Swindon went well and was a victim of what was going on there and also having his main players on loan.

Feels like he needs to settle down somewhere and perhaps Doncaster need someone who's not going to do a McCann or Moore so it could be one where both Club and Manager need each other in that respect.

Personally think he’s a good manager and a good fit for Doncaster.

Got to laugh at Donny fans turning their noses up at Wellens really, might serve you well to remember where your natural place is in the footballing pyramid. Solid appointment for all parties here. You'll be playing decent footy if he's given time. No idea what his time at Oldham was like, but weren't they a bit of a basketcase club then? Seem to remember Oldham fans in the L2 forum the next season saying he got them playing well despite going down, but I could be wrong. His Swindon team was great the season he took them up. Then his time at Salford shouldn't be taken into consideration. Absolute joke club/board, giving him a single window and four months (in which he won a trophy!) after inheriting a side that were setup in quite a contrasting way to his style under Graham Alexander.

Every fan base has its numpties the majority are more than happy with his appointment, as to natural place we are probably in it.

Disagree with you on that, but fair enough on the first bit.

Edit: Actually you've spent more seasons in the third tier than I thought you had so I don't necessarily disagree with as strongly on that in hindsight.

Research always helps, if you add in the time we’ve spent in the second tier it pretty much works out that we are in our historical position

Why would a Grimsby fan be giving it the big un? i don’t think anyone would seriously suggest you are ‘bigger’ than us as exemplified by the fact we’ve shared the same division once in about the last 16 years.

Grimsby are a good club but a league two-national league yo yo club at best, not sure why one of their fans has an obsession with me, have blocked him now.

Haha yeah nowadays we are indeed a tier 4/5 yo-yo club, but we're traditionally a bigger club than Donny. I wasn't coming here to get into a bigger club debate anyway, I was coming here to stick up for Wellens. As it is ridiculous that you see this as underwhelming when you've had Dean Saunders not so long ago.

Obsession and blocking too? Absolutely hilarious and bizarre, but suit yourself. I hardly ever talk about Donny. A quick search of my posts would tell you the last time I talked about you lot (aside from talking about friendlies and the hypothetical prospect of being in a divison with loads of localish sides) was to discuss the signing of Danny Andrew back in 2017. I think the only time before this that I've ever responded to any of your posts was the other day when you came into the non-league forum to declare that Luton are the only team to have played in the non-league that are bigger than Donny.
