Newport County make their first trip to Gresty Road since the 1987-88 season on Saturday and today they sacked Graham Westley and replaced him with Michael Flynn.
Newport to most are all but down barring a miraculous run of form. It's a shame as I like the club, it's a great away day for me being just a trip through the Severn Tunnel on the GWR and the alcohol is cheap in that part of the world. But, Orient apart, it's easy to see why they're bottom and that's because they're the worst run club in the division and that includes the Oyston-owned Blackpool. To allow a manager to sign 14 players in January only for him to be sacked in early March is nothing short of a recipe for disaster. Their ground situation is laughable and ever since their Euromillions winning investor severed his ties with the club, the club have been in such a rut that it looks like they're sleepwalking their way into non-league. Of course, you have to feel sorry for the fans but it'll be very interesting to see what happens to them in non league next season (barring a miracle) given how much of an abomination York have been in the Conference since their relegation.
I expect us to win professionally on Saturday and I'm more confident of a result now Westley is nowhere to be seen. A win for us will see us all but safe (unless Orient dodge that points deduction) and I'm going for a 3-0 home win.
However, it wouldn't surprise me if our squad are once again complacent against "inferior" opposition. We have 15 points against sides in the Top 7 this season and only 5 points against those in the relegation scrap. A loss at home to Newport is unforgivable should it occur.
