Don't get it.

Are they meant to be jewellery or practical?

My one is for practical uses, such as letting me know when the pub is open.

Status symbol, waste of money, redundant since mobile phones became ubiquitous and can also tell the time.

I concur young Benjamin.

Originally people had pocket watches, so you had to pull it out to see the time. Then some bright so and so said 'I know what would save time', and invented the wrist watch. Then came the mobile phone, and we went back to square one and you had to pull it out a pocket to see the time. Two steps forward one step back

I used to wear a watch all the time but I gave up when the batteries died and I could look at my phone. I'm now stewarding at various events where looking at your phone is forbidden.

I need to get one of my watches working again.

I've got a crappy, battered old Pebble Time, and wear it primarily for notifications whilst working as my phone is on silent and I'd continually miss calls, WhatsApps and emails etc. The fact it also tells the time is secondary.

My mates brother works for Goldsmiths and wears a £7k watch of some sort. Obscene. That's more than I paid for my car.

I've got more watches than I need and always wear one out.

Which watch depends on what I'm doing/where I'm going.

I use my watch for practical purposes. If i'm out and about and my mobile is in my laptop bag then that's when I'll use my watch. I'm just not wedded to my mobile phone, but I'm an oldie.

Could do with a watch when in meetings and such like where wouldn't be appropriate to check your phone. Or when your phone dies.

Yes. You can't do everything on your phone. I agree, it's practical to have the time on it but people are on their phones far too often these days.

I had this when I was young. It's not a Nintendo joke, I actually had it. The only Zelda game I've ever payed, on any platform.

Watches look nice (well, some of them).

They are also practical (who wants to faff around getting their phone out when they want to know the time. NOT ME, THAT'S FOR SURE).

In summary I like watches and think they are good.
