Ours are back in on Thursday (23rd). Seems fairly early compared to usual. First friendlies are 5th and 6th July.

Are any other squads back this week?

No sure about squad training but 3 or 4 of our players have been training for pre-season individually since the end of May.

Ours are back on Friday for testing, so I assume they'll come in again properly Monday.

My Stone Island squad have been training for a while. Flew out to France to do some hot weather training down in Marseille, picked up some good techniques to transfer back to the streets over here. Namely gum shields, correct chair throwing techniques and how to avoid being pepper sprayed. Can't wait for the season. Naughty.

Doubt Becchetti has even let the players off on their summer break yet.

Ours are back today. Rumours of Lionel Messi retiring from international football in order to join us appear to be incorrect, sadly.

Ours are back today. Pretty intensive day I've heard.

First up is a Davis refresher on how to defend a 1-0 defeat.

Looks like Nathan Doyle reported back today in the same way he left the last season - unfit and overweight!

Supposedly we lost Craig Mackail-Smith on the first day of pre-season training... for the rest of the season. :hb::ffs:

What did he do ?
No idea - it's just speculation. Feel sorry for him if it is the case. He didn't score the goals we needed last season, but he worked incredibly hard for the team when called upon. A model pro.

I play 7 a side , and what we do is we take turns , 8 minutes or so each , seems to work well , no reason why it can't scale up ...you just need to work out how to divide 90 by 11...but we can stick a man on the moon , so it should be possible

Just to update this - Nathan Doyle: a Ruptured Achilles' tendon. Craig Mackail-Smith a fractured tibia requiring a pin. The former probably won't be able to walk properly for at least 4 months!

Hmm.

One's fat and one's not very good but both are presumably on high wages so a bit annoying. Don't think Doyle would have been earmarked for a major role anyway (in fact I think we were probably looking to offload if we could - obviously that's not going to happen now), and CMS I suspect would have been a bench player.

Still, we'll need to replace them as warm bodies if nothing else. 15 senior pros on the plane for pre-season sounds a little light for comfort. The average age of the 21 travelling including the youth team must be insanely young.

Darren Way took our lot down to West Bay today for some old-fashioned beach and hill running. Then strip off, do an Iceland clap (badly) and run into the sea. Sports science at work.

We did Cassius Camps again a few days ago. General consensus seems to be that it's physically the hardest day of the players' careers. We did it last year and it seemed to do the job, the players mentioned it every now and then throughout the season when we came from behind to win (coming back from 3-1 to win at Luton the main example).

Curle told them to make it much tougher this year and the guy who runs it said he'd never seen a team progress so quickly in the space of a day. First pre-season match behind closed doors today (vs QotS) so we're relying on reporters to tell us if the team seems to be gelling well, but I'm pretty confident this will be the case having seen all the players' interviews after CC.
