21 years old. Brett Webb was his name and he was one of the most popular and pleasant blokes I've had the pleasure of knowing. Had around 100 turn up at his old local for him last night. Sadly went to sleep and never woke up again. How utterly devastating.

There's been a just giving page set up in his memory, we're planning on getting a flag made that we can hang permanently at KR in his remembrance, with any excess funds going to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

Rest in peace, Brett.

the compassion shown by followers of our site shows great value.....doubt this would happen as it does in many other forms

Tragic news. Death is never a happy event but it's even sadder when it takes someone at such a young age.

Thoughts are with his family.

Awful and shocking news, thoughts obviously with his family, must be devastating the sudden manner of this.

The flag is a great idea, very pleased to see that the total raised already far exceeds its target.

I can only echo what everyone else has said. Terrible, terrible news, can't even imagine what his family and friends are feeling right now. I didn't know him but I recognise him from away trips, RIP to a passionate Hatter. And as others have said, the flag is a great idea and gesture, well done to whoever set it up and well done to everyone helping to smash past the target already.

Can't claim to have known Brett but like Tom Close last year had seen him around and spoke a few times. Lovely lad by all accounts.

  1. Brett Beasey-Webb tragically passed away on Sunday at the age of just 21. He was a life long hatter and an extremely loyal one, following them up and down the country. The news has shocked the club, the community and has ripped his family apart. He was one of the most popular and pleasant blokes I've had the pleasure of knowing. Hadaround 100 turn up at his old local pub for him last night. He sadly went to sleep and never woke up again. How utterly devastating.

There's been a just giving page set up in his memory, we're planning on getting a flag made that we can hang permanently at KR in his remembrance, with any excess funds going to the family to assist with funeral expenses, along with a potential charity match in his honour.

Please give generously and spread this heartbreaking story.

    Rest in peace, Brett.

Thought the messages from his mum and dad were really moving and worthy of a repost here because I'm certain they would touch a chord with football fans all over the world:

George Webb
We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and overwhelming generosity. We know we will never be able to thank you all personally, but his friends, our friends and family, the Luton Town family and wider football community have done our wonderful son proud.

Rest in peace Brett you were my constant companion for many years and you became my best mate. I'll miss you so much xxx George (Dad)

The LTFC side of the men in my life was something I knew very little about. The viral (for want of a better word) response from his 'Luton' family, the wider football community and all the donators has rendered me speechless. After reading all the tributes to my son Brett I realise what an extremely popular, loyal young man he was with so many friends from so many places. My heart is broken but all this love will certainly help to fill the huge Brett shaped hole in our lives.
With gratitude beyond words because there are no words appropriate enough at tragic senseless times such as these.
Alison, mother of your 'brother' xxx

Thanks for reposting. Agree very moving words, they must be going through a dreadful time. Taken far too early, RIP. Hope to see the flag at KR next month.

Unfortunately flag won't be up by then, can't take money from fund until the time it's live for has ended which is 24/8/16.

Taken from Outlaws (which in turn seems to have been taken from Facebook):

A 21 year old Luton lad passed away suddenly recently and his funeral took place yesterday. I knew him, only vaguely but wanted to thank the many fellow football fans family for recently donating to the fund set up to assist paying for a flag being made that will be at Kenilworth Road on a permanent basis when it's made. The colossal £6,000 + raised paid in such a short time for this as well as funeral costs etc to his family. But the reason I'm writing all this is that it was discovered yesterday that Portsmouth 657 lads raised over £400 This huge ultra generous gesture will never be forgotten by us Luton fans top uttermost respect to them. I'm proud as a Hatter to write this Play Up Pompey

Massive, massive respect to Pompey.
