Worrying for Bradford if they can't even score at home against one of the worst sides in the league.
Didn’t do us any harm against your lot in 16/17, worry about your own team we’ll be fine.

Cambridge were very organised, they’ll be hard to break down for a fair few teams this season.

Modern fans read far to much into opening day results, there’s a reason bookies make big money in the first and last six games of the season.

See Norwich 1-7 Colchester and see how that season ended. Lot of new players it’ll take a bit of time to gel, I’d rather be playing us first 5-6 games than mid season if I were opposing teams.

I'm going to try and be unbiased here. I thought we were really poor in the final third today and we lacked quality in the middle. The system didn't work at all and the game was crying out for Scannell to stretch the game a bit. I couldn't believe Bowyer only gave him 15 mins.
Cambridge came with a plan and it worked. Most teams in this league away from home will do the same and try and frustrate the crowd and we cant blame them for it.
Overall a frustrating day but a point and a clean sheet is something to build on.

Not worried about you, I only lose sleep over teams that bring over 500 to Burslem.

Bradford can’t win, can they? If they’d won 4-0, this thread would be full of comments that they should be because of their big budget and squad etc.. They draw 0-0, and suddenly, they’re poor and Cambridge are effectively the worst team in the league, or so it seems...

It’s one game...

First post on here. Been checking in throughout the summer to read views of fellow League 2 fans, and found it to be a balanced forum without much bickering you get on your own clubs forum

So, on to yesterdays game. As a Bradford City fan, the game confirmed to me that we are woefully weak in midfield, and also that a 4-3-3 just doesnt work for us. Doyle is not a number 10, and it was clearly not working. Bowyer left it far too late to replace him with Scannell, and go 4-4-2.

Good atmosphere, and hats off to Cambridge fans who travelled in numbers and backed their team well

As for Cambridge, they looked very well organised defensively, and look like they will be a hard team to breakdown, although they offered very little up front. Indeed, I cannot recall our keeper having to make one single save. That said, Im sure Calderwood will have been the happier of the two managers.

Roll on next Saturday and the Bradford army descending on Cleethorpes

I think that may be the crux of it. Calderwood has shored it right up, we defended well.

We just don't have any goals in our side, even if we do have plenty of huff and puff and build up.

Even further back Barnet 7 Blackpool 0 if I recall. Blackpool went up, Barnet down! One result means nothing.

Attendance banter does nothing for me mate as I’ve not got the maturity of a 15 year old, maybe try someone else.

Ridiculous challenge by your number 8, no way you can have any complaints about that. Completely and utterly unnecessary.

That type of challenge is not a sending off offence. A definite yellow but never a red. That two footed lunge on our left back only some 5 seconds before that the ref somehow, er, 'missed' was much more deserving of a red card.

The ref was shocking, but I guess that was mostly down to the >14000 home fans present at the ground. Nobody has ever said that having thousands of home fans screaming at the match officials ain't helpful 'cos it sure is.

As for the game itself, I fully expected us to be cautious as avoiding defeat on the opening day meant a lot after last years' shambolic start to the new season. Re. Bradford, I thought it was clear that the side needs time to settle, esp up front as I thought the back four were decent enough. IOW, it's only a matter of when not if, and to write them off at this early stage is just plain silly.

I'm with you re. attendances and willy waving, but is it true about taking less than 500 fans? It just doesn't seem believable to me :pond:

I agree, having seen a replay, it wasn't a red. However, my point still stands in that he only has himself to blame. Players can't take retribution into their own hands, no matter how hard done by they feel.

Generally no. There might have been a midweek game where we took approx 400 a few years ago. That being said we do travel poorly to Burslem.

Not sure but last time I went it was a Saturday, around 1200 there. Maybe a Tuesday night when we were doing crap and the fact we seem to play them every season.

Anyway good luck for the season.

The meltdown ongoing on bantamtalk is thoroughly amusing I must say

Bit OTT isn't it?

Think it's borne out of three frustrations though;

1) our main weakness yesterday was our ineffective midfield which has been obvious for weeks
2) Bowyer shunting Doyle, Vaughan and Donaldson into the same starting line up, with Doyle playing in the 10 role. Doesn't work and unnecessary
3) 22 shots on goal and no proper chance of note (bar Vaughan's glorious overhead)

I think after the last 18 months it was a solid start to build upon and on another day we could've grabbed a couple of goals easily but left with things to work on. Still confident we'll be troubling the top end of the table.
