After Ascot United let the Angels off the hook on Sunday with an injury time penalty miss (to win the tie 3-2), the replay took place last night at Stad de Longmead.... it was like watching a different team.... Angels hit 7 without reply (could have so easily been double figures if it wasn't for the heroics of the Ascot keeper who pulled off at least 3 incredible saves in the first half)..... Good to see Phipp back to his previous best....now onto the glamour tie at W&F! The FA cup dream is still alive.....
Tom Phipp is a terrific player when he's on, I had no idea he was with Angels these days.

"We can confirm that the admission prices for this game will be as per our normal league match day prices. Harriers had hoped to reach an agreement to significantly lower admission prices for this game given it is our second home meeting with Tamworth in the space of a few days, but our guests have been firm in their stance that pricing must remain at its standard tariff."

This seems very bizarre from Tamworth, why would they stop their fans from paying less?

I can only guess and say that it's because they get 50% of the gate after match and travel expenses. The majority of the crowd will be home fans that they are trying to make the money off.

It should also be noted that it is not unknown for FA Cup matches to end up in a loss (with match expenses and travel included), in which case I believe the losses are shared 50/50. It may be that they are trying to avoid this case.

Our FA Cup game against Worthing will be played at AFC Hayes' Farm Park...suppose that's almost home.

We're also charging standard home admission prices for our tie against Histon (£13). I hope it was a situation similar to the one above with Harriers and Tamworth because that price isn't going to get any stragglers through the gate.

Gainsborough at home for us. They've already beaten us this season (not many haven't), and it's only the fact that it's the FA cup which is making me go, such is my lassitude re all things Alty lately

We play Hyde United tomorrow at home.

Wasn't long ago they were a division above us, now find themselves 2 below!

Potential banana skin this one.

Kirby Muxloe of Level 9 United Counties League away for us. We've made a mess of similar ties in the past though...

62 league places above Histon. Should win comfortably but this is the FA Cup and we've had more than a few upsets sprung up on us over the years.

Much, much better performance but the finishing was poor. Could have had 10 or more to be honest but it's a good performance which will hopefully kick start our season. Pressure still on Billy Heath. Playoffs a minimum.

10 goals against Tamworth in 2 games. Easy game Belshaw is a really bad keeper. Onto the next round...Hereford, Stourbridge, Halesowen. Worcester and Telford all possibilities in the next round.

Tamworth seem to be the biggest Jekyll and Hyde side going.

Speaking Of Hyde, an easy 2-0 win for us against them today, should have been more but apart from Lloyd we lack any real quality.

FT - Alfreton 1-0 AFC Flyde (Tom Allan 9)

Fantastic win today against a very good side. We certainly rode our luck again but a combination of brave defending poor finishing and a good performance from Spiess was enough.

Delighted to get on over on Flyde who, judging by twitter thought they had won before a ball had been kicked. Nice added bonus of 4,500 in to the coffers too.

Pathetic attendance of 263 but was to be expected due to the total lack of advertisement.

Into the hat for Monday.

Some interesting results!

Hadley FC 2-1 Kings Langley
Coalville 0-1 AFC Mansfield
Also surprised to see Harrogate forced to a replay by Bridlington.

Alty 3 Gainsborough 2

Feared the worst on going 1-0 down after 2 mins, but we actually didn't look bad once we equalised. Should have been clear before Gainsborough equalised out of nowhere (top finish by Jarman pen, mind). The winner was a real goalmouth scramble. A scrappy win over moderate opponents but I'm having it anyway.

Concord 1 - 3 AFCR&D

3 goals in the first 20 mins was enough for Diamonds despite a penalty shortly before half time. A scoreless second half meant Diamonds won against higher ranked opposition in the cup once again. We seem to be developing a nice habit of pulling out good cup results, with this being the first time we've beaten conference regional opposition.

For the first 30 mins we completely controlled the game, and if you were going to say one team was 2 levels higher than the other, you would have clearly said it was the visitors. You can see how Concord haven't scored a goal at home all season prior to the penalty. We were good in front of goal without being completely clinical and could have scored more, though it would have been harsh. The first time the ball was in the net was Shariff slotting in at the near post with a fine finish from an off-side position, but this served to give us confidence rather than drop our heads. We got on the scorecard soon after, with Richard Bunting slotting the ball in to the far corner under the onrushing goalkeeper. Two followed one reasonably quickly as Diamonds were pretty much camped in the final third thanks to good passing and movement, a cross from a deep position found Tom Lorraine at the back stick, right on his head, so close he could have been holding the post for support. Delirium for Diamonds as Ashton rose to head home a free kick from the wing and at 19 mins we were 3-0 up. We continued to press and keep the ball well for another 10 mins, still dominating, until Concord made a change going 4 at the back which contained us a bit better. From then on the half was about equal. Diamonds lost Ross Oulton to an injury, while a penalty was given at the other end. The decision seemed about fair and Finlay went the wrong way, which was the end of the action in the first half.

After the break the game was a bit slower as Diamonds held the ball a bit more but still threatened on the break. The onus was on Concord as the home side, and they did provide a good threat, mostly from the left wing. Finlay was called in to make some good saves, and one outstanding stop with his legs. The referee began to make a few odd decisions marginally favouring the home side, who toed the line between physical football and fouling very well, but we remained a threat on the break. In truth both teams could have scored in the second half. Shariff was set through down the middle, out-paced his man and slotted to the back stick, hitting the upright. From that chance Concord went straight down the other end, with one of their best efforts of the game. Diamonds never tired as the half went on, changes were made to bring in fresh legs. Concord had a few reasonable chances which a more confident team might have put away, though credit has to go to Finlay who was determined, and wasted time within the rules. In the end the closest to another goal came from AFCR&D again as Nic Evangelinos had the ball headed towards the corner flag with about 10 mins to go before cutting inside and hitting the same post as Shariff earlier.

All in all a great game for Diamonds, and a professional performance. A dominant first half hour followed up by a mature 30 mins. Perhaps the penalty before half time helped us to keep grounded.

Delighted to make the 3rd qualifying round for the FA Cup two years in a row. Can we go further? Let's see who we get in the draw on Monday. Frankly we will probably struggle against a better team from that level, but we seem to raise our game when needed.

Pleased for the Lilywhites, this round was already the furthest they've ever got I believe and that's a tidy away win, not that I have any idea who Brislington are.

I think it's fair to say that the Aspect Arena is an experience, nice bar though and I believe it's still £10 entry so fair play to them.

Dumebi Dumaka and Steve Cawley are a ridiculously good front 2 for our level so Diamonds will need to be well on their game to get a result.

Cawley took the penalty, but Dumaka didn't play. Their key threat came from the left side, not sure who it was playing there, though it lines up against our right side of defense which is our weaker side.

Indeed it was £10 entry. Nothing wrong with the ground IMO. OK it's quite basic, but it serves it's purpose, probably the bare minimum for entry to step 2. Only thing you can really deride massively is the dugout side of the ground. Pitch seemed really good too, which probably helped us!

Tom Stephens is their left back I believe, highly rated over there.

Wealdstone 4-0 Histon (Att: 327)

Comfortable win and should have been more. Elliot Benyon bagged a brace and there were also goals from Ricky Wellard (an absolute screamer) and Josh Hutchinson which see us into the hat for Monday's draw.

We are out.

Much much better performance than of late but still lacking the finishing touch. Had alot of our youngsters out there today and they showed great signs and put alot of effort into the game but it wasn't to be. It was quite a good game to be fair although Worthing dominated in terms of pushing forward and creating we defended really well also with a few great saves from the keeps. We were down to 10 men for most of the game aswell which didn't help us really.

The full time result was

Hayes and Yeading 0-2 Worthing.

Good luck to them in the next round

Brislington is a suburb of Bristol I think. They famously got all the way to the 4th qualifying round a few years back.

I found that out after I posted, Western League side apparently and saw that bit about their earlier exploits on Wikipedia (which they've clearly written themselves, 'we' all through the latter bit. And why not)

Copied and pasted results from the FA site to preserve the draw numbers. Normally the FA release the draw in order such that regions are grouped. Numbers may or may not be preserved for future draws (as becomes the case from the 4th qualifying round onward).

There are big differences in the sizes of regions, but they seem to make sense, partially based on sides who were knocked out. The difference in region sizes could represent a number of things, such as the number of teams who came in at the 2nd qualifying round in each (maybe they were evenly spread) or the number of teams who applied and were accepted to begin with.

If I've got it right then it might remain 4 regions with some manual shuffling, or possibly go to a straight North/South as it is in 4th round qualifying. In that case I expect Alfreton to go further south. Beyond that it's either us heading in to that midland group or, more likely, Brackley pushed into the South-East group.
