1-1 draw at Darlo, hit them on a break and Smalley finished well to give us the lead. Second half was pretty much one way traffic, with eventually a penalty allowing Darlington to equalise. Don't think there's any complaints about the decision. Zach Jeacock then pulled off a ridiculous save to bring home a point in the last few seconds. Good point for us as we didn't have a forward in the squad (Wright injured, Williams Mrs giving birth and Freemantle went back to Kiddy). Also had two 16 year olds on the bench that have been nowhere near the first team before, so we massively need reinforcements.

Home draw against Scunthorpe, we probably should have won this game especially with them having a player sent off, just couldn't manage a second goal. Decent game overall and we did play well.

We drew 0-0 with Tamworth in a game ruined by the referee. 11 yellow cards and two red cards (one for Jim Bentley for seemingly very little), and only 2 cards for actual fouls. It wasn't even a particularly bad-tempered game! We were the better side in the first half but there were few clear cut chances. Second half, once Tamworth went down to 10 men they were there better side, but again few clear cut chances.

Cannot understand curzon sometimes they go away and from all accounts deservedly easily beat one of the hardest sides to beat at their own ground, also beat unbeaten at the time Scunthorpe.

Then cannot beat rushall or Peterborough sports…

We really need a different home tactic we seem great away, terrible at home

We've look a shadow of our former self since all the news broke about our ownership. Players aren't playing with freedom anymore, don't blame them as they know they're not getting paid at the end of the month.

Think a plummet down the league is destined to happen, if we even make it to the end of the season

The results are irrelevant to what’s happening off the pitch.

Jimmy and his staff supposed not getting paid, see if he walks and someone else comes in, Russ Wilcox up the road to Gainsborough I think he will take some of the crowd

Said it before and will say it it again, as a United fan of 30+ years Home and away, didn't expect much,1500 at midweek matches, 2500 on saturday, it tears me apart that the club is dying but we had a warning a couple of years ago and nobody would listen, in fact they targeted the person who let them know because of his beliefs.

I'm over it now.
Like a dog in pain or a relative, it's better to switch the power off.

To be fair, we now know this "200 fans and tight budget" thing is nonsense.

Well not the fans bit, but the tight budget.

Curzon have a pretty reasonable budget - they could out pay Darlo for Jimmy Spencer for example - despite their crowds, because they are very well run off the field and have good income streams to make up for the lack of gate money.

I'm sure I read on twitter that the difference between Darlo and Curzon's turnover is about 100k in Darlo's favour - take our 160k boost the budget out and Curzon's turnover would be higher than ours if what was said is true.

I actually thought that Curzon must be bankrolled by someone, but that's the lazy way of explaining their finances.

So really at lower levels their budget may in fact have been good compared to competitors.

Do t think it’s as good as you think it may be budget wise, I think location and facilities is the bigger draw. We are still part time and each season we will lose our best players to other conf north sides or lower league sides due to money.

The facilities do help make us competitive and location is a major draw for part time players (a wide range of local jobs covering every field) but most of our signings are normally other conf north club cast offs who we sometimes develop and push on.

Plus the facilities come with one enormous burden…….the club has to raise £200-300,000 every 6 years to relay the pitch because the facilities have to be top notch to attract the Manchester academy…..when we got to the fa cup second round vs Wimbledon a couple of seasons ago every penny went to facilities and none on the pitch which is why we soon after lost Morgan to Halifax.

He’s started in the early games but we struggled to make any chances or have any shots on goal so it’s resulted with him being left out, we were missing a lot of players due to injury but they are more or less recovered now so I wouldnt be surprised t see him going out on loan to get games
Gone for good I see

TBF there Dave, pinching half or more of FCFCs side is hardly rejects. Barton, Hayhurst, Spencer were certainly not rejected. There's others too. I imagine Jimmy's still pro for example. And on more than we were paying him.

What's the deal with the spendymoor fella? Thought he had it pretty cushy there? Hoping for another job - Darlo? ( but missed out on it...)

So Jamie has more responsibility in his full time job then he previously did and with his wife having another baby real soon, so he decided to step down as manager so he wont be going for a managers job anytime soon

The club Owner and Chairman has recently notified the Board of Directors of his decision to withdraw his funding from the club moving forward.

He has also notified them that he feels his position at the club is untenable, and is actively seeking a way out. Based on this information, both Ian Dawson and Tahina Akther have decided to resign from their positions with immediate affect.

We can confirm that numerous parties have made contact with the club with a view to taking over, but faced with stadium issues, numerous litigation proceedings and winding up petitions no potential purchasers are looking to move forward. This includes the consortium of local business people and supporters.

The Chairman and remaining board members have now set out a plan in order to very quickly make the club sustainable.

An outside company will be bought in to work closely with the club's creditors to try and ensure all are paid in a timely and professional manner.
Rest of statement is here https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2023/september/club-update/
----

Gainsborough Trinity FC are aware of a statement issued today by Scunthorpe United. This statement was issued without the knowledge or consent of Gainsborough Trinity. Whilst the club has always been clear that any requests from Scunthorpe United to play fixtures at the KAL Group Stadium would be considered, this would always have to be done by due process which would involve both clubs and the ground owner.
The local SAG (Safety Advisory Group), Police and local authority would also need to issue the appropriate safety certificates, which are not currently in place.

How on earth can you issue a statement to say your playing at another clubs ground without that said club having been actually asked first!!

Looking very doubtful Scunny will see season out

What a mess but the over riding thought it with the fans, another club looking set to go to the wall and one with a proud EFL history.

Could easily have been us but we got lucky and this shows just how lucky we got. Good luck and hope a swift resolution from somewhere can be found to save the club.

So the curzon manager Lakeland has resigned last night to take up the manager post at kings lynn.

Most of the curzon fans are upset but I’m sortve at moment going…..yippee!!!

But we will see if that was idiotic or. Over time, but personally I still feel curzon has the squad the last two seasons to be top 7 and failed because of at times very cautious tactics and failure to constantly beat anyone rubbish…….but he did take them to highest finish so as I say we will see by how we react and how kings lynnn do.

And one for the Chester fans.

Craig Mahon is looking the likely choice for new manager at present. He’s been given the job as player manager on interim basis but has a good chance of does well

Weird game at home to Chorley today. For nearly 60 minutes today we were second best all across the park outplayed and only good point was being just one goal down.

We them scored from a scrappy goal off a set play and suddenly some enormous confidence boost seemed to happen, we utterly dominate the last 30 minutes, create a lot of opportunities more than Chorley did with 60 minutes possession, take the lead and really should have got more goals.

Chorley just fell apart at 1-1 just not sure if due to us or them.

You have to say some justice there for Buxton. Although with the week Scunthorpe have had you have to feel sorry for them. Hard for the players to concentrate on going top. Could be a long season for them as the income will rapidly fall away as they will surely get no gate receipts from Gainsborough.

We were absolutely awful that last half hour every credit to Curzon who totally deserved their win like you just dont know what happened, we seemed to stop playing after your equalizer. Just confirms what we already knew the squad we gave isnt good enough.

That is where its Tough to say if your not as strong as think or are we better than we sometimes approach our games due to Lakeland’s cautious style.

You looked excellent for 60 minutes and really should have led by more but you maybe worry about strength of squad because you got weaker as game went on and changes did little to turn it about and team crumbled.

On curzon side the first 60 minutes for a home side were atrocious we hardly put more than one man in box at home and never really attacked, but we were doing that all season 4-5 people passing about the box to no one in box, unsure if that was our tactics or the managerial change caused chaos this week or just your good play but it was unacceptable at home really.

Then suddenly on the goal much different, we have dangerous players when we attack but so drilled now on ‘counter’ it suits away football only, something Mahon will have to work on.
