I think to be entirely frank with you all that in several crucial respects this is an inauthentic Belgian quaffer. It is a Chimay Blue people for who say that they love "World Cinema" and that their favourite movie of all time is City of God. It is to Westvleteren 12 as Carlo Saraceni is Caravaggio, a Dean Windass to Nicky Barmby's Petit Orval, a Jockney to my Rochefort 10. But do you know what? I like it. And if that's wrong then I guess I just don't care. So sue me?

Pretty funny story for you all btw: had my uncle down from that Kingston upon Hull they have nowadays the other weekend, and we went out for a nosh at the Thai restaurant in town for me mam's birthday. Authentic décor, tho I'm not sure if the food would pass muster on the street stalls of Pak Kret (Royal Banquet we had - good value mind you).

Anyhoo, we fancied a drink after, but they are old giffers and I knew we probs wouldn't get a table in the Burton Bridge and my old man can't really go in the Coopers any more cos his mate who was the boss there has split up messily with the women who's got the licence. So we chanced our arm the new micro-pub a couple of doors down. The Fuggle and Nugget it's called (Alty wasn't joking when he said that craft beer branding is all 21st century now). There was only a couple of fellas in, and I think they were planning closing up early, but they let us in anyway, and when I went to the bar (IPAs for the blokes, a Lindemans framboise for me dear old ma [typography is all over the shop on the label for that btw]) I could not help but notice the lilting accent of the lady who was serving me. I was drunk enough to ask, and yes! Would you believe it! She and her husband were both transplants from Hull!

They came over and chatted with us at the table, and after a couple of minutes the two other fellas in there came trotting over and announced that they were from Beverley as well! You should have seen my face. We spent a good 90 minutes talking about Wold Road and the Ye Olde White Hart and the Allams. When I got back to my wank dungeon I was sick whilst trying to unlock the door and regurgitated an almost whole prawn from the Tom Yum Goong soup.

Classic night.

Trying to drink less of late so having the occasional half. Has made me have more hoppy beers and sweeter things like milk stouts that pints and pints of aren't really my thing.

Brew York's Tonkoko is so bloody good. Coconut and vanilla stout so quite sweet but in small doses...
