Thought Id get this off and running.

We have announced our first

Rotherham United (H) July 14th 19.30
Fail to see the benefit of that again from our point of view! But I suppose it may bring a half decent crowd.

Pre-season friendlies now confirmed:

Cardiff City (H) - Wed 15 July @ 1930
Brimscombe & Thrupp (A) - Sat 18 July @ 1300
Aston Villa XI (H) - Wed 22 July @ 1900
Bishops Cleeve (A) - Fri 24 July @ TBC
Slimbridge (A) - Sat 25 July @ 1300
West Brom - Tue 28 July @ 1930

I can't see too many more fixtures being added to that list. There is still no "fans favourite" against Shortwood, the other team in Nailsworth, there may be room to fit it in between the West Brom game and the start of the season...hopefully!

Isn't that a traditional pre-season fixture for Cheltenham? We tried to play them once, maybe 5-6 years ago, but I think the game had to be abandoned and we haven't been invited back again.

I think we've completely given up with decent friendlies now seen as they all get cancelled. Lots of lost revenue there because we've had Birmingham, Leicester and Sheffield United lined up over the last 2 or 3 years.

EDIT - Think we've been drawn with Boston in the Lincs Cup.

I think it will be the 4th time in 5 years. Not a bad trip in fairness, friendly club and not too far away.

It used to be Bishops Cleeve, but they started taking the game a bit too seriously and when a couple of players came out with injuries we started only sending the reserves.

Surprised we didn't come over more often when we were in the Football League. I can't remember the last time we played in a friendly. The last time I saw CTFC at FGR was at the old Lawn in 2004ish.

Yeah me too, but games between ourselves and Gloucester City also seem pretty rare. I can remember one pre-season friendly at our place, possibly when they were tenants so it was actually a home game for them rather than us, but the cup game last season was an all too rare game with a bit of meaning to it. Cleeve used to be managed by ex-Rover Alex Sykes, now assistant at Shortwood, as his nickname was Syko it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that his team verged on the agricultural when it came to their on pitch performance. We look forward to welcoming you to The New Lawn next season, although we had hoped to come up and join you rather than the other way round, Gloucestershire needs a team in the Football League to take the focus away from the egg-chasing majority!

I remember the PSF you had with City a couple of weeks after the floods when it was announced they would be sharing with you. Shame it never worked out, it could still be your award winning pitch that they mess up every bloody season!!!

That being said, if they had stayed at yours then you might never have been on the brink and Vince might never have taken over.....

Ah yes, that award winning pitch...just remind me where the groundsman who created it ended up...I will give you a clue, it starts with Whaddon!

Possibly true about Gloucester staying at our place, rather than coming to yours, the rent they pay might have covered the tax bill we were struggling to pay...before Dale got involved.

We usually do a mini-tour of local teams, most of which nobody on here will have even heard of (except maybe the Cheltenham fan). The favourite is always the trip to Shortwood, the other team in Nailsworth, possibly the most picturesque place I have ever watched a game of football. I wouldn't be surprised if we have at least one more home game in addition to the above, maybe a Premier League Youth Team or a league side a bit closer to home.

Oh, I and other Shots fans are well aware of who Shortwood are, sadly it brings back very bad memories from last season!

We have Rochdale at home at some point, dunno the date off top of my head. Nothing else announced yet, most likely the usual trips to Buxton, Congleton and Leek. Maybe even send the kids to Stockport for a run out.

Not quite a pre-season friendly, more like a pre-pre-season friendly. Unashamedly robbed from our website, but might interest a few on here:

A squad of players from the FGR Academy, as well as a selection of various other players, will take on a Salisbury FC XI at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Friday 22 May (7:30pm).

Academy chief Scott Bartlett will be returning to Salisbury to lead a side against the newly reformed Wiltshire club as they get set for their first season after their recent formation.

Replacing the now defunct Salisbury City, who were chucked out the Football Conference in 2014, a Salisbury FC side managed by new boss Steve Claridge will host a Forest Green XI.

Salisbury are eager to look at new players for their squad after they discovered yesterday that they will start next season in the Wessex Premier League.

Bartlett, who made over 400 appearances for Salisbury City, is glad he can offer his support to his former club by taking his youngsters to a match likely to be played in front of a big crowd.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the game. Although it’s late in the season it gives our young players an opportunity to play in front of a good crowd, something we can’t replicate very often at youth level.

“I watched their last two home games against Totton and Gosport, and they had around 750 fans at both games.

“Some of the second year Academy players we have released have been fantastic servants to FGR and this game puts them in the shop window and gives us an opportunity to help them find first team football.

“Being able to help out my old club is a bonus, I have a good relationship with Steve and the board at Salisbury, so it makes sense.”

Entry for the match is on a ‘pay what you want’ basis as Salisbury FC look to gather funds ahead of the 2015-16 season

We've now announced all of our away friendlies:

Saturday, July 11: Cirencester Town away (3pm)
Tuesday, July 14: Evesham United away (7.45pm)
Saturday, July 18: Weston-super-Mare away (3pm)
Saturday, August 1: AFC Wimbledon away (3pm)

Weston will be a cracking day out, did it in 2009, and the wife and kids will be on board for it as well. I'm in two minds on Ciren, Evesham will probably be a better bet.

Can't work out why we'll be travelling to Wimbledon (well, Kingston) a week before the season kicks off though.
