Reads like we were lucky to be only 1-0 down at HT, rallied a bit after HT and had a shot blocked on the line by a hand, which the ref didn't see but ultimately didn't seem to create much.

We're fine up until the final third. No problem with Walker either really, he's just not getting the service and isn't someone who'll fashion something out himself. The three in behind aren't clicking and central midfield is probably a decent player short.

And I was thinking it had been a good away day for us...I would have settled point before the game, our away form matches yours at home. Still a 2-2 draw is good entertainment and keeps us within touch of the leading teams. Be interesting to see things looks come end of January

Got to say I'm very happy with a draw today.
I feared the worst at 2 o'clock when I saw our makeshift defence up against Madden and Evans.
If you had got a second goal before half time I don't think we could have come back.
I was glad to see Josh Morris on the bench, he usually has a blinder against us.

Another comfortable home win, with out really playing particularly well.
6 home wins in a row in all comps, dont know when we last done that.
This team is really starting to gel.
Into the top half and looking up rather than down.
Really looking forward to the 2nd half of the season, especially if we can get a new striker in who can score goals.

How has Mandron been for you? Top pro, likeable character and an unquestionable work ethic but struggled in front of goal and was clumsy with the ball at his feet for us.

I thought it was lovely out-shithousing Wycombe.
That the sending off occurred in the melee after Kashket (I think) had been a fanny trying to claim a foul/injury to get Gorrin booked (he succeeded) by diving was lovely karma. Also, Akinfenwa's 1st yellow card was a ridiculous challenge off the ball for no purpose, so he only has himself to blame. Also, you can't raise your hands, especially right in front of the Ref.

We really should have put that game to bed though, even in the 1st half.

It appears the Wycombe keeper didn't understand his team was losing with the amount of time he took on goal kicks etc.

Just to say a good performance by the Ref Lee Swabey (if I remember his name correctly) didn't let the dark arts from both teams ruin the game and was pretty consistent (in general and yellow cards).

I thought Akinfenwa would be better than that. It was petulant and completely unnecessary.

Agreed. We should have won the game comfortably, Wycombe kept it simple and with the very few opportunities to convert, were restricted largely limited to our own occasional lapses in concentration. That being said, with 10 men it was unlikely that they would threaten/adopt an offensive fork of tact.

Looks like we were totally conned by the referee today. Harry Lennon has broken his leg (again).
I do wonder when we are going to get lucky again we have had nothing but shit luck in what seems forever. Absolutely nothing is going for us and there seems no end in sight

We weren't conned by the ref, we were fairly beaten because as soon as we concede a goal our players could not give one shit (bar Dieng, Mantom, Elvis and Hopper when he came on)

Two quotes to sum up today:

One, from a couple of friends who came down from Lancaster to watch the game: After conceding it looked like we were watching different team out there, how can they go from looking ok to that bad just from letting in a goal.

Two, from Sol after the game: The decision making from some of these players is, well, terrible.

So we started pretty well and Bolton were bad and I mean Southend United bad, any pressure on them they couldn't pass it 5 yards, the keeper couldn't kick a cat and they were all over the place.
We deservedly scored, even when Lennon went off it didn't put us out of our stride.
Then against the run of play they score and that was that we reverted to sauntering around, not putting in challenges not bothering to track back.

I'm not even going to go into the 3rd goal, what a shambles, I just laughed at the time.
Milligan was awful, he broke up more of our attacks than the Bolton players. When he gets the ball the majority of the time he doesn't even look up or forward, he just passes backwards. Their 3rd was just the epitome of his, get passed the ball, turn and pass to a defender.

Wasn’t at the game today but from what I’ve seen you can’t do what Akinfenwa did and expect to get away with it, so it is what it is.

Mousinho was a stroppy arse for us and for Stevenage so I guess you can’t be too surprised if he hasn’t changed.

Would never have thought we’d be where we are at Xmas so we just have to take this on the chin and move on.

Oh and Lennon went off with a broken leg, the other leg to the one he broke last year. He was stand in left back. Nobody will now play left back as it is clearly cursed, here is a run through of the year of the cursed Southend left back:

Coker - Torn ACL/MCL - just coming back to training at Lincoln
Hendrie - multiple injuries which had him playing a couple of games before being injured again.
Kyprianou - Torn ACL - still hasn't returned to training
Ralph - Dislocated shoulder that needs surgery to repair it - out for the season
Lennon - Broken Leg

Took a while to get going, and struggled to get in the team but is now forming a great partnership with hanlan and deserves his place in the side, not prolific but his hold up play is good

Wasn’t at the game so hard to comment. The handball I’ve seen in the lead up to their second is a complete disgrace though. Not sure about the offside one haven’t seen it

The first goal was the handball, on replay, yes looks like it was. But I said at the time, why have all our players stopped. They just stop and watch the guy fire it in the bottom corner, no one makes any attempt to close him down, play to the whistle ffs.

The 2nd the coaching staff got angry cos the lino put his flag up but the ref ignored him. Looking at the replay the ref was right, wasn't offside. Our players didn't stop that time, no one seem to notice the lino put his flag up but the bench.

We weren't beaten by those decisions it was once again the apathy and shite following the 1st goal and into the 2nd half. It's just laughable and so predictable now. After their 1st we just literally stopped playing, Bolton had been poor, really poor we turned it into a training routine of attack v defence and just let them come onto us at will.

What are your thoughts on your keeper (Allsop?) taking ages to take goalkicks etc even when you losing 1-0?

I get it when winning but when losing he was slowing the game down for us which we found amusing. I should add he clearly isn't doing it to time waste rather he is just very slow!

On Allsop's overall game, is he usually quite as flappy at the ball as yesterday?

His shot stopping was generally very good but a couple of times he put you in trouble, batting the ball around his box. One in particular in the 2nd half when he nearly created an opening for us when he had nobody near him yet flapped at the ball, and then still with nobody near him, he panicked and pushed the ball away not far from where one of our players was.

That was a classic 1-0 battering. If we had a prolific striker we would have won comfortably by three or four goals, but the three points are welcome and vital nonetheless.

Wimbledon offered very little indeed and I get the impression they would be nailed on for relegation if it was not for Forss's goals.

The Wimbledon fans we drank with before the game were fine, but as with Chichester the other week, I will call out the element who sang cliched 'Scouser' songs at us, including one little ditty about food banks. Utter bellends.
Mate, you seem a bit easily offended.
You are from Merseyside therefore you are going to get banter about being robbers, unemployed etc. It’s just football fans, it’s what we do.
As long as it doesn’t go too far with references to Hillsborough. Munich, race, sexuality etc. then just embrace it.
We get the pikey thing thrown at us pretty much every game. We just call ourselves Pikies and they don’t really know what to do.
Football has already been sanitized enough.
Just enjoy the beautiful game.
Merry Christmas

Not really. I am just perplexed as to why racist or homophobic abuse is (rightly) considered unacceptable, but abuse based on class or region is perfectly fine. What is the difference ?

As for your comment that 'you are from Merseyside, accept it', you might as well tell people from Brighton they should put up with chants about 'qu**rs' or people from Bradford should accept songs about 'Pa*is'.

If you read my post I clearly said that homophobic and racist abuse is totally unacceptable so your comparisons with gay and paki chants are not valid.
I have been at games where Everton and/or Liverpool fans in London were singing “thank you very much for next weeks Giro”.
In my opinion a much better response than getting upset about it.
The last thing I am looking to do is cause an argument here and if the chanting is genuinely offensive and racist or homophobic then that is quite simply wrong but if it is just outdated stereotyping then it is no worse than than the chants about Cockneys, Pikeys etc.

If you bothered to read my post properly, you would see that I don't see any real difference between racist abuse and abuse based on class or region. That includes songs about Cockneys or 'Pikeys'. They are all unacceptable.

He’s certainly got plenty of weaknesses, but I guess that’s why he’s a lower league keeper where the typical pattern is as you say that they’re a good shot stopper but lack confidence or reading of the game in other areas.

He has kept a fair number of clean sheets this season though, arguably mainly through having a more solid defence this time, but you’ve still got to save the chances that do come your way. Last season the nickname “Alldrop” was getting thrown around by the dumber sections of our fanbase though.

Of course it makes no sense to take ages over goal kicks if you’re losing unless we were trying to go for damage limitation being down to 10 men - don’t really know as I wasn’t there.

Convincing win yesterday against a good Ipswich side, in general it was a pretty good quality game. We're still well in it, Ronan Curtis has reacquired his "I am the League 1 Ronaldo" attitude and it's very welcome. Cockiest bastard I've seen in a Pompey shirt in a long while.

Cheers, I thought he did pretty well apart from his moments of flapping with a really good save from Mousinho's header.

On the kicks, it really didn't seem to change from the start right through to the end, even when all your other players were hustling to try to get an equaliser in the final 10 minutes or so. It just seemed very strange.

There's a line and it depends on the person as to where it's been crossed. Our fans singing the national anthem at Luton was one of the few times it's been crossed for me. As for food banks, we have a government who created that situation and people voted for them, so it's probably meaningless to anyone not from Merseyside...

This league makes no sense. I've been impressed by teams like Burton and Rotherham, but thought teams like Wycombe and Rovers have been hugely average. It's wide open this year, anyone's for the taking.

If Wycombe can top the league, that shows the quality isn't high this year. Every team in the top half will be going for it in January...

I would agree to a point. In fairness, I think a few teams might think we were poor-average. Whereas a side we put to the sword (Lincoln for example) might think we are excellent.

Often we (supporters) base opinions on the opposition on one performance. Wycombe for me at the weekend offered little to no threat particularly in the first half. That being said, they’re evidently an excellent side to be where they are, I just think tactically they got it wrong and the subsequent sending off didn’t help them.

25% of our goals conceded were in that one game. You didn't have to be excellent on that day, just to turn up and put your boots on the right feet (might only have been 3 if you got the second part wrong!).
Your lot were decent, but for me to judge you as excellent I'd have to see you against a coherent 11 that didn't look like they had just pulled half the side from the pub.
As bad as we've been in a long time. The job still needed doing though and it was done well.

The way Wycombe acted after a brilliant tackle by Gorrin was ridiculous. The ref only gave a freekick based on their outrage. I'm glad Akinfenwa saw red over it.

Wycombe are just effective. I'm fairly confident they'll drop away. I think Peterborough will win the league.

Oxford are easily the best team I've seen at NYS this season, the other losses were quite even games that could have gone either way.
Wycombe were efficient and fell down a lot, broke up the game and we couldn't get a grip.
What they do they are very good at, and unless they get a lot of injuries, they might surprise everyone and finish top two.

We are good and poor in equal measures, we need to pick a settled team and go with it to see if we can build partnerships on the field.
I feel for Warney though because injuries have hampered us this season.

But I guess all teams have their own problems with that.
