25 is too many with only five subs for me, too many people not involved. I’d want 23 as an absolute maximum.

That 25 was including Tyreace Palmer & Brooks who are more than likely going to be loaned out.

current wrexham squad:

GK
Rob Lainton
Christian Dibble

DEF
Tyler French
Shaun Brisley
Jamie Reckord
Cam Green
Reece Hall Johnson
Max Cleworth (youth)
Ryan Austin (youth)

MID
Luke Young
Jordan Davies
Devonte Redmond
Dan Jarvis

FWD
Jake Hyde
Jordan Ponticelli
Dior Angus
Liam McAlinden
Kwame Thomas (currently rehab from serious injury)
Jake Bickerstaff (youth)

presently have 19 signed including 3 youth who will likely get loaned again

we don't know what formation we are going to play yet. I imagine that we will need at least 1 more CB, possibly 2 as French would cover RB.

midfield i would say we need a marquee signing there for central mid position.

if we play 3 up front then we need a couple more wide players, and another central striker as Hyde / Ponticelli wont be the only 2 options we have. Thomas likely wont be back til at least October / November.

another 5 signings would take us up to 24, and i would be happy with that. GK we can cope with 2, even though Lainton is seemingly made of glass again

True, I guess. I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed a couple of similarly aged to those two development players to be fair.

I think there's a chance our squad could be done for now. Ben Barclay has all but signed, training with us and having to go under the guise of trialist in matches but it should be done soon.

I think there's improvements to be made, in midfield particularly and maybe another wide attacking option but in terms of numbers we have plenty so I think we'd have to get some out (Stott has been linked to other clubs, Maynard is a player that doesn't seem to have a big future here either with his age and lack of form for us) to bring other permanant players in.

The loan market from clubs higher up the pyramid doesn't open up properly yet, I could see us going for 1 or 2 in that range in a few weeks and using some of the links we have to clubs.

I make it a 22/23 man squad
GK: Hinchliffe, Ross
FB: Southam Hales, Minihan, Kitching, J Jennings, Rydel
CB: Hogan, Barclay, Palmer, Stott
MF: Croasdale, Rooney, Collar, Maynard, Keane
AM/WG: Whitfield, Newby, Walker, C.Jennings (long term absentee)
ST: Quigley, Madden, Reid

We have some youngsters contracted who are promising but I can see loans for them when pre-season is finished and we've had a look at them.

I’d be surprised if there aren’t a few more - It would be nice to get Stott and Maynard out but let’s face it that won’t stop us bringing more in.

I'm not sure I like the phrase 'nice to get Stott out'. That lad was one of the reasons we got promoted out of the NLN and hasn't been given a fair crack at the whip in the NL IMO.

Lets not forget he played a fair few games for Oldham at the start of the 2019/20 season in League Two so he's perfectly capable.

We’re going for top spot - Stott was average at best when given a chance last season, passive and nervy at his worst and Jennings was much better than him left of a three.

I would have had him ahead of Keane in the CB pecking order in a back four so disagreed with Rusk there but with Barclay in he is a 4th/5th choice CB on 2nd/3rd choice CB wage.

After a busy couple of days, we’re about there. The earliest I can remember is getting our important business done tbh.

Goalkeepers:
Sam Slocombe
Tiernan Brooks

Centre backs:
Connell Rawlinson
Alex Lacey
Kyle Cameron

Centre back/full backs:
Richard Brindley
Adam Chicksen

Wing backs:
Dion Kelly-Evans
Joel Taylor
Aaron Nemane

Central midfielders:
Ed Francis
Matt Palmer
Frank Vincent
Jim O’Brien
Michael Doyle

Forwards/attacking midfielders:
Ruben Rodrigues
Callum Roberts
Lewis Knight
Elisha Sam

Strikers:
Kyle Wootton
Tyreace Palmer

I think we’ve done enough to say we should be genuine title challengers this time, particularly if we can get a genuine alternative to Wootton in. Even then we’ll be behind Stockport and Chesterfield in terms of the options at out and out centre forward. But our joker going forward is the Rodrigues/Roberts double act, which will hopefully work because they’re both really outstanding talents and could cause absolute havoc. Otherwise we’ve managed to bring the average age down and seemingly deal with the lack of pace/energy issue that plagued us for much of the last two seasons.

Expect this to be our starting xi to begin the season now:

Slocombe
Brindley - Rawlinson - Cameron
Kelly-Evans - Palmer - Francis - Taylor
Roberts - Wootton - Rodrigues
Think we're a centre half and a striker short. Lacey still not training and Rawlinson hasn't looked happy in a three and is not blessed with pace.
Still no out and out cover for Wootton.
Having said that the players we have got look to be definite play-off standard and if we get a good start rather than playing catch up we could go very close.
Stockport then Chesterfield starting as favourites as it stands for me.

We have the holy trinity of James McKeown in goal, Shaun Pearson at Centre Half and Lenell John-Lewis (The Shop) up front.

Don't really need anymore players!

What happened to the Greek sounding one? Always thought he had moments of quality in him

It wouldn’t surprise me if Luke Young is being thought of as the new captain, as I’m pretty sure he’s had that role before at Torquay and he’s been a very consistent reliable player for us

Harry Panaytiaou. “Moments” is an accurate assessment. “Led” the line most of last season, with Miller stuck on the left wing.
IMO a very poor striker, you can have him and welcome.

So he’s just been let go then? 12 goals for a team that finished 15th isn’t a bad return

We’ve made him an offer, apparently, but because of reduced budget it’s probably the same or less than last year.
At least he’s a 100% trier, I’ll concede that. But not one for me.

I don't think he's captain material, doesn't exactly talk much.

It’s just an armband at the end of the day. You should have captains all over the pitch, not just looking at one player. Harry Kane isn’t exactly what I’d call captain material, but he delivers on the pitch and that’s what a captain should do and for me, that’s what Young does

I disagree about Kane, he leads by example and is vocal. Young does neither.

If we’re talking about England, the leaders are Maguire, Stones, Rice and possibly Pickford, they’re the vocal ones. Kane just does hand movements. Luckily he’s a world class striker and scores goals and that’s how he leads. Young gives his all and chips in with his fair share of goals too. He wouldn’t be my choice, I’d rather someone from outside, but I just wouldn’t be surprised

With all you Wrexham fans talking about Kane should us Stockport supporters be worried that you are about to make the signing of the millennium in any sport in any country?

Think we’re looking good if you swap player for player. So..

Brisley vs Pearson - looks more mobile and better on the ball. We’ll miss Shaun’s leadership qualities, but he’s definitely not as dominant as he used to be. I’m more disappointed that he’s not gonna stick around long enough to become a coach.

Lennon vs Kelleher/Vassell - This is the one you can’t answer yet. On paper he looks better, I imagine he’ll definitely be better on the ball, but it all depends on how he’s recovered from his unlucky injuries. I liked Vassell though and would’ve kept him on.

McAlinden vs I have no idea because we didn’t really have wingers last season, but let’s say Rutherford - Think he’s going to surprise some people and be quite key. I imagine he’ll bring plenty of energy and is also versatile.

Hyde vs Gold - I liked Gold and would’ve kept him as an option off the bench because he caused mayhem against defences when he came in late last season and helped stop our season from flatlining. Very raw though, which Hyde is not, he’s a proper striker at this level. I was at the game at home against Barnet, which I think was Morrell’s last game in charge and I’m pretty sure it was Hyde that scored the goal, so that shows just how experienced he is. Think he’ll form a good partnership with Mullin. Speaking of..

Mullin vs every single striker we had last season - If we use him correctly he’s going to have some season, the variety of goals he scored for Cambridge last season just shows how much quality he brings. Apparently we didn’t create too many chances last season, yet Kwame scored over 10 and his season was over far too early. So if Mullin gets the same or better creativity, then it’s going to be a good season.

So looking good so far. For me we need to prioritise one or two midfielders now, which would be someone who can control the game and also do the ugly side, if it comes in the form of one player, happy days. Also think we need a winger with pace, so we can adjust our system if it’s not working out, at the moment I think we lack wide attacking options. And probably another centre half to challenge or play alongside two of Brisley/Lennon/French etc. Then not as big a priority, but maybe another full back/s to push RHJ or Reckord/Green. So hopefully another 5/6 to come in

The idea of Brisley being more mobile or better on the ball than anyone is utterly baffling.
