Couldn't we introduce a rule where if the playoff games are tied after 120 mins, that the team that finished higher in the league wins?

It seems ridiculous Kidderminster can finish 24 pts behind the second place team, or Brackley 15 points behind Chester, yet if it is a draw, to settle it with the lottery of pens instead of rewarding the better team over 46 games...
On that basis, you could argue that there is no point in play offs at all. If there are two promotion slots, then just promote the top two! I quite like them, and we travel tomorrow in hope. And we seem to be better at penalties..

This season we lost to Oldham on penalties in the FA cup we also got knocked out of the trophy at Farsley on pens, add to that we lost to Runcorn on pens in the Cheshire senior cup. Even the sodding youth team were eliminated from the FA youth cup on penalties, so win or lose I want the game to be decided in 90 minutes as I feel the script is already written if it goes to penalties

We have an absolutely dreadful record in play-offs. Never won a game. I felt we were robbed when we lost to Donnie in early 2,000s, when we were leading in the first game at Donnie and a Chester player was sent off (later rescinded), but Donnie managed an equaliser. Another draw at Chester and normally reliable Daryl Clare missed his pen. We won it the following season . I expect us to win v Brackley , but as Ken says we have to win it in 90 minutes. We are on a par with England for penalty shoot-out failures.

The weighting of the play-offs where the higher up a team finishes the more they get of a home advantage in their ties is probably just reward as it is. If a team blobs it at home to some mid-table cannon fodder who scraped into 7th place on the last day of the season then they only have themselves to blame.

Crazy how tickets have been selling for our game, they're like gold dust. Brackley didn't sell their allocation so 125 extra tickets went on sale to home fans at 8pm and they were all snapped up by 8.01pm. Incredible demand, don't know where these people have come from but seem to be getting on board, particularly the last few months. Wouldn't mind a few of them sticking around for regular games.

Do you know what was Brackley's allocation?

Sadly can't go to the game today and maybe that helps with not being nervous but in going in with no expectations. Lucky to even be in the playoffs so any progression is a success.

If we start like we have been and get another early goal it would put the pressure on Kings Lynn.

Stephen Cleeve tweeted yesterday that we'd sold 734 and 2000 hadn't been reached yet so it will be interesting to see what the confirmed attendance is

Kiddy 4-1 up at kings lynn so that is them through, surprising result always felt kings lynn when I seen them earlier in season looked much better than anything else I’d seen but as happens a lot just missing out on that title just does something mentally never know why.

Notts c losing to boreham wood presently same issues.

Brackley away then. Never been a good ground for us. But with our form and away record we have to believe we can win

You will beat them if you play football they were the biggest side I’ve ever seen and for some bizarre reason we just kept lumping the ball in the air, very strange tactics from us we made it easy for them.

Absolute shitshow from Chester today not helped by an incompetent ref who ignored 2 good penalty appeals 10 minutes before Brackley scored.. We never win play-offs it's in our DNA.

Was at King's Lynn v Kidderminster today. In truth it could've been 3 or 4 in the first half for Kiddy, only some decent goalkeeping kept the score down. Second half was one way traffic.

Lynn were dreadful, and in Gold Omotayo I think they have won the award for single laziest performance by a striker I've ever seen - and I saw half a season of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Attendance announced as 3002.

Really really not all that big. Just a giant centre forward on as a sub.

Very interesting it’s second year in a row the teams scraping into lay offs fare much better than the stronger all season clubs when it came to the play offs itself even with home advantage and rest time.

Do have to think of the rest time is actually hindering than helping……makes a mockery of the fans who think of rotation and resting, sides batting last day then playing midweek beat the nicer rested clubs

Agreed, we'd have been better finishing 7th and playing away games, where we are 21 league games undefeated.

To be fair, last weekend we were still going for the title had Fylde's result gone the other way so don't think the 'rested' argument holds true for our game. We just got found out yesterday by a very good Kidderminster side who were better across the park and completely agree with Joe's comment above - it could have been 3 or 4 at half time. We didn't change anything tactically at half time (first real test of our temporary manager since Widdrington's departure) and Kidderminster got what they deserved second half.

Yes they did. Was like being back in the 1980s again. Don't want to condemn Chester, since 95% of the fans I'm sure are very decent people. But I thought we'd all moved on from days like today - where a 5 year old kid is left covered in blood, disabled fans wheelchairs are damaged, flares are chucked in the away end, away supporters buses are damaged etc. Our manager described as the worst scenes he'd seen in 15 years of non-league football.

Can`t get on to the CFC forum, so will use this. I counted 100-150 nutters at the end, in front of the Brackley section. The thin blue line held, saw tasers in action, then some of them tried to ambush the Brackley "pensioners" on the way out. Agree that it is that 3-4% of the 4,400, but it`s enough to worry Chester FC. Some would be hangers on for the day (Manchester/ Liverpool maybe), same old issue, too much booze, a defeat that wasn`t expected. inability to handle, need to lash out. No time for a fuller social anthropological analysis, we all know the stereotype.

Chester are ex League, big population, expectation that they are "better" and should win a game like. Brackley are a non league club, family atmosphere - yes, a handle of youth who think they have to behave like big time Charlies, but generally a game at SJP is safe, the matchday experience is good, and the football has certainly been good over the last few seasons. Ironic to be in our first PlayOff final since 2018, with arguably the weakest squad, although after yesterday, I`m less sure about that.

The game itself. Trying to be objective, I thought we were the better side, worked Tyrer a lot more than Chester worked Lewis. Kept the ball better, managed the game, defended for their lives, and fully deserved the win. Chester seemed overawed, clearly a good side who have had a good season, but the occasion and expectation got to them yesterday. Thought they were poor.
