Turns out the down to Earth shit is all a front. By all accounts he was an absolute twat in January, threatening to down tools if we didn't allow him to move to Gillingham (I mean, fucking Gillingham). The club, for some reason, decided to take the flack for him and let him keep his hero status in tact.

Forced into a Gentleman's agreement, they then let him go for a bloody pittance.

The board will still get the majority of the grief, and rightly so, but Alfie has gone way down in my estimations (like he really gives a shit what I think).

Talking seriously about tomorrow's game - the only hope I have is that we've played Charlton five times now and still haven't lost, including two wins at The Valley.

He actually said that he wasn't going to celebrate, but that there were some tw@ts in the home end giving him grief so then he thought, "what the hell, why not" and celebrated.

Certainly don't have any problem with that, some of our fans are such d1cks and pull out the "Wycombe reject" chant for anyone who's ever left us, regardless of whether they've gone to better things or not - don't get me wrong, I'm not sure Reading are truly "better" than us at the moment but they certainly pay more.

Away at Cambridge.

Can't really get a good feel of where we're at with Skubala yet because of the Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday schedule but after tomorrow we have a free weekend and then Accrington in the Pizza Cup, so really it's 10 days of being able to get some good training into the squad.

We're still without several players but O'Connor and Hamilton are back from suspension and Bishop also returned to the squad on Saturday. Sorenson went off injured though, and Roughan came back from international duty injured so in terms of numbers we're pretty much as you were.

Cambridge are in similar form to us over the last few games and neither team score or concede many so I can't imagine it's going to be a big draw to the paying public on a Tuesday night!

The top third for us is still proving difficult and a bit of a mish-mash in terms of numbers and players out of position bar Mandroiu. Not fluid at all but we've spread the goals around and had 17(?) different members of the squad score this season so far.

Obviously take everything with a pinch of salt but when I asked him on Saturday about Gillingham and whether he was ever really that interested in dropping a level he said no.

He was offered nothing by Cheltenham because we knew that we couldn't match anything yourselves, Derby or Gillingham could. The board knew from the moment his agent told them about what Gillingham were offering (more than triple his wage with us) that we had no chance of keeping him.

Apparently Charlton's first offer was something like £50k - which blows my mind.

I don't begrudge him a move for life-changing amounts of money - he certainly wasn't one of our highest paid players when he signed his deal in January 2022 - but there are ways of doing things and, by all accounts, he decided the Ben Tozer way was the way to go.

We don't do heavy victories despite our lofty league position. Only once have we won by more than two goals all season and that was Matchday 2 away at an injury ravaged Orient.

Any kind of win will do for us but at the same time, we need to be convincing.

Yeah I noticed Wing celebrated that goal, i take note of ex players scoring against their old clubs. You can certainly see who left with a chip on their shoulder.
The weirdest one was Luke Leahy, seems to really enjoy giving it large to our fans who supported him. He didnt even send any goodbye message on social media, which is unheard of for a captain.

One of our most played fixtures tomorrow away at Bristol Rovers, Saturday we looked alot more ourselves than we have done in previous games.

The squad will likely have one or two rotated, I reckon Darren Pratley will 100% come back in and maybe Ethan Galbraith too.

Big bonus on Saturday to finally get Dan Agyei back from his injury he suffered in the last pre season game back in July and making his debut - albeit for 10mins. If he does feature it will likely again only be for 10/15mins, as he slowly gets up to speed.

Rovers still without a manager and despite Saturdays loss had been going on ok still.

Pivotal game for our season and for GC’s future. Win and he’ll probably last a while longer, lose and surely he goes…particularly if it’s another insipid display. A draw is simply not enough.

But I just don’t see where the win is coming from. Please don’t play Diabate (a CB) up front on his own again, as that’s mental and a sign we’ve really lost the plot. For me, I’d play Wildschut as he’s looked pretty good and he’s got some pedigree. But as Hutch says, we go behind and it’s going to be horrific…

I’m not going, just can’t be arsed to rush after work to watch a team who are completely off it. Hope we get a win but I predict 2-0 Shrewsbury. Udoh will probably have a field day and even Bowman could get a goal.

We currently have eight players out injured, six of them would have been certain to start this match and two on the bench or even starting also. It’s a minor miracle as to how we are currently sitting in 12th place. A testament to how garbage League One is this year.

Exeter might be on an atrocious run of form, but Salop are horrendous on the road. Just 4 points from a possible 27 available away from home for us which puts us 23rd in the away league table, 1 point more than Reading.

If we were at home then I’d be confident as we’ve made the Meadow a fortress this season thus far, however, we’re away. I’ll be watching in more hope than expectation.

We had a massive debate on our podcast about it a couple of weeks back - our local journo thinks the club did everything right and are immune from criticism because of Alfie's attitude. In his opinion no-one was trying to bid more for him so they had to accept £250k. The club were banking on a bidding war once the fee got above that amount. My argument is that when the club let it be known how much they will accept, there is no incentive for any other clubs to go above that. The simple fact is, we set the minimum price too low and had we started at akin to £350k-£400k then it would have been a more reasonable figure and we wouldn't still be banging on about it now.

Two inconsistent teams leads me to think this could be a draw, and a point away from home is never a bad thing.

They were appalling Saturday...but that doesn't say a lot about us. Easily the worst side we've played.

We're desperate for a victory from anywhere in any form. Derby seem to have picked up a bit, so again we need to play at our maximum. Let's not do what we did against Bolton and sit back and admire them for 45 minutes.

Undoubtedly we'll get another "they're one of the best sides we've played this season but nothing up front ". We'll create loads of situations around the box and do nothing with them and then concede a Sunday league goal at the other end.

Some of the football we play is as good as it's been for a long time but we're just dreadful in both boxes. I can't see Crosby lasting until January if he doesn't find a way to sort it.
