Not a bad game for her to miss, if you have to miss one.

Sarina Wiegman has tested positive for Covid and will be missing from pitchside this evening...hopefully this won't prove a disruption to the England team...hope she is feeling OK and will be back in time for the Quarter-Final.

Hope it doesn’t spread.

Likewise, it sounds like Wubben-Moy has already tested positive...as have a few players from other teams.

Really looking forward to the game tonight...guess they only play the National Anthem once, for both teams to sing at the same time, would be a little pointless playing it twice...not expecting a scoreline like the Norway game, that was quite exceptional, but a strong England team should have enough to win comfortably. I'm going for four or five to nil.

Caught a bit of the first half, credit to the north they’ve been much more disciplined than Norway were so they should take pride from that. Just outmatched from a technical standpoint but there’s no shame in that. Would expect England to pull away second half.

Didn’t see it but apparently Denmark were very negative considering they had to win or rather maybe Spain were just good at keeping the ball ?

I know what you mean, we have at least one game a season where there are a thousand or so kids from the local Saturday morning league. I am 100 plus yards away at the other end and it is still piercing. Fortunately they normally place them next to the away fans and they can “enjoy” the full effect.

that said it is, like the game you saw yesterday, really good to see (just not hear :))

Middlesbrough away midweek at Ayresome Park. On the terrace and a heavy hailstorm hits so the Boro officials kindly let us move (200-300 iirc) into the seats. Unfortunately, as the game hadn't started, we hadn't realised there were the Boro Juniors in there. Jesus, it was bad so most supporters asked to go back on to the terrace and put up with the hailstones.

Spain definitely play a possession game, according to Fotmob they had the ball for nearly three quarters of the game...the Danes didn't really get hold of the ball till about the last 20 minutes or so, and the game definitely opened up, when a single goal would still have been enough for them.

I think if England start the game against Spain like they did against Norway they should be alright, I don't think the Spanish will enjoy playing a game against an opponent that just launches attack after attack on them, also I think our defence will be able to exert more control on their forwards than the Danish did. Oddly, I'm almost happier that England are playing Spain than Denmark as I think our style of play has a greater chance of success against a team that likes to maintain possession...but only if we deny them precisely that. Either way, it should be a decent game on Wednesday, hopefully the AMEX is rocking again!

Could we have had a penalty ?

Sounds like Spain have been better team though .

Some strike that was. Will be honest for long periods I thought England were paying the price for having too easy a run in the group stage but have really come on strong late in the game.

Excellent subs really helped tip the balance. What an absolute belter from Stanway.

Impressive win for England. Think they needed a hard game like that as just walloping teams like they were in the group stage is no prep for playing the better teams.

Enjoyed that. I wonder why didn't Spain play Amaiur Sarriegi before the 100 minute mark, she was good when she came on.

Squad depth plus a coach who knows how to use it. Spain were excellent and this may turn out to be the game that gives us the confidence to know that we can win the thing.

Wow, talk of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat...isn't it usually the other way round...that was a fine example of a team digging deep to get a result.

Agree with the comments above about the value of the substitutions, to have players like Toone and Rousso on the bench is truly a luxury, they have made a difference every time they have been involved...stars for the future for England, if not now. With Wiegman we seem to have a manager with more technical nous, and tactical awareness, than any who have preceded her in the role...aren't we starting to see the benefit! She clearly decides what her preferred starting line up is and, barring absolute need, sticks with it against any opposition...that approach worked with her previous team, who let us not forget went on to become Champions...repeat performance please.

I sent a message to a Brighton fan after Stanway scored, pointing out that it was unlikely that any of their players had scored a goal a good as Stanway's since they moved in to the AMEX...or potentially as valuable to their team. Wow, what a finish that was...pity she is heading off to Bayern next season and not continuing her career in the WSL...I guess the bonus is that we still get to see her play for England.

Who do we fancy in the Semi-Final, no doubt that Sweden are a very good team, but Belgium are no slouches and they deserved to beat Italy. Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening must be the hottest ticket in town at the moment.

Whilst it was a great strike, I think someone else has pointed out on here that it shows the big issue with women's football. The ball was nowhere near the corner but still out of reach of the Spanish goalkeeper. I saw a goal last week (I think it was Germany or Netherlands, I really can't remember) but a forward hit a shot on the turn and, with the keeper at full stretch, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was right in the bottom corner when it was actually a good few feet inside.

Take nothing away from the game last night though, it was probably the best game of football I've seen for a while and the drama made it even better.

Mind you, talking about keepers, if you think about the fingertip save made by Earps...to the cross/shot...that for me was top drawer, had that gone in it would probably have been game over!

Don't disagree there...I also enjoyed the Italy versus Belgium game, which had a bit of jeopardy on it, depending on how the result went in the France and Iceland game.

I hope my next door neighbours hadn't gone to sleep early as my celebrations for the Toone goal might have woken them up...mind you, I didn't hear their dog barking, so I might have got away with it!

Here is the Stanway goal shot by someone in the stand, gives a better idea of how far out she was:

Looks even better from this angle...to say that the AMEX was rocking is a bit of an understatement!

Wish the commentator had gone all Partridge, ‘Shit did you see that, she must have a foot like a traction engine’

They aren’t used to seeing a lot of goals at the AMEX tbf, especially not ones that good!

Expecting the Swedes to dispose of Belgium tonight. Will be another top team for us to face in the semis.

France v Netherlands could be a belter on Saturday. France should be favourites but they've had their typical disagreements behind the scenes so an early goal for the Dutch could widen some of those cracks. Whoever comes through it will be a mouth-watering semifinal Vs Germany.

Sweden it is then. Thought they made hard work of it, but got the winner in injury time. Not much to be scared of from an England perspective.

Would have preferred Belgium though

Was rooting for Belgium but hey ho, nothing to be frightened of from that for the Lionesses.

As far as the next QF goes, I want the Dutch to win but I also want to see a France Germany semi final so either will be OK.

That was an odd game last night, had expected Sweden to be better...maybe more decisive in attack...as they are currently rated as second best in the World, after the USA. However, their shooting wasn't brilliant, too many shots well off target and the Belgian keeper was definitely up to stopping anything that was heading goalwards.

As the clock was running out I really thought that the game would go to extra time, the Belgians seemed to have weathered the storm and if anything had started to look the stronger team...or it could have been a mixture of the Swedes running out of ideas and tiredness setting in. Part of me was hoping it would go to penalties, which is a bit of a lottery, but could have been fun...and produced a massive upset. but alas not to be.

Sweden it is on Tuesday night, should be a good game, a lot different to playing Spain...less possession and more attack, could suit England nicely.
