I've reviewed and destributed ads to standard members, only one should be showing inside the original post of each thread and one in the last post. Elsewhere, there should be on in the header, and perhaps one in the sidebar, that's pretty much it once you've contributed 75+ posts.

For site subscribers, I've attempted to resolve the ad above the General Chat sections but it won't accept the permissions I coded so I need to look a little closer at that one, so for the time being... it's removed for everyone, cheers.

Things should be looking a damn sight tidier now for all usergroups. It's not quite done as yet, but you'll notice the header advert has been re-positioned and no longer stretches the page (on any device) and I think overall offers a better user experience. Feedback welcomed.

This afternoon I'm getting an advert pop up (on the same tab) every time I post.

What kind of advert? More details please, screenshot ideally.
Sorry can't remember what the advertisement was but it was just a square in the top left corner with the rest of the screen white.

It hasn't happened since but if it does it again I'll make sure I'll take a screenshot.

Do you run an Adblocker? If so, it may have been a new feature we've added which intermittently requests users to consider disabling it. It's designed to display to all who run adblockers, and should display once per hour or so.

If not, without more information I won't be able to shed anymore light.

If you could bring the screenshot if it happens again that would be great. Ta.

Handy that. I missed the notification that my subscription was due and that served as a reminder. Now renewed.

I wish websites would offer an opt-out, then I wouldn't have to use an adblocker.

I keep getting the adblocker notification, but despite having disabled it on 1ff I still see no ads and still get the disable notification. I'm using Aviva Scout, chrome based browser.

That's annoying- but useful mate. Thanks for the info, I can recreate that and have a look.

Same here: I disabled Adblockplus at 1FF but still getting this annoying message. I use the actual Firefox.

I've just checked and it's working as it should- it's likely you have additional plugins or settings that are blocking the ads. Try turning off your entire ad blocker temporarily and refreshing the page and seeing if that works, and let me know.

Upon researching that, I have noticed that for Well Known members the site alignments looks OK, but it seems to look a mess for the new members. It's still very much a work in progress.

OK folks, this definitely relates to an issue with Adblock plugins. I've been testing myself (using Adblock for Chrome).
Sometimes when I pause Adblock for 1FF, it will still block the ads, it confirms this by showing a number on the Adblock plugin icon. A refresh often fixes this, and failing this, completely disabling the plugin works. It's not ideal, and seems intermittent.

Best advice at present; ensure your browsers & adblocking software remains up-to-date, and ensure you don't have any secondary protection, too.

I didn't notice until you said mate. Yes, I'm the same but it isn't slowing any movement around the forums.

I only noticed cos occasionally it's a big advert, was just a slight annoyance.

Can something be done about the ads? I know you need to pay for the hosting and servers or whatever, but it takes the piss when you can't even browse when not logged in.

I can get away with the ads placed inbetween forums but the pop-ups are a nightmare, the majority of them don't even have an X to close them so you have to close and reopen the tab? It must put off loads who visit and not just me...?

This is on mobile, by the way.

They've been setup on mobile like that for some time, and were actually reduced recently in recent months. They won't be changing further for guests. It's setup purposefully like this- guests should absolutely be seeing more ads than people who have signed up. Ads should not be allowed to be closed or X'd, apart from popups- if this is what you're referring too and there is not an option to close them out, I can look into it. All other ads will be remaining the same though.

Every single time I visit that's what I get. It completely greys out the actual site so you cannot click on anything and there's no option to close the advert so all you can do is reload the page but then it reappears once you refresh anyway...

I can't even log on half the time cause I get sick of reloading the site. Even when I do manage to get on and click the 'stay logged in' option, I ALWAYS have to log in again the next time I visit.

I appreactiate that the ads pay for the site, or at least help, but how is anyone meant to browse the site to even think about joining when it's nigh on impossible?

OK yeah, that looks like the popup being served is corrupt or the ad server is being deliberately intrusive.

Try now.

Forgot about the corrupted ad for a minute, why do guests get loads more ads that others? Surely it should be the same, as Alan says, how do you expect to attract new members if all they get from the forum is ad ridden crap?

Surely you make more money from them once they sign up and become regular visitors than them appearing once amd immediately leaving because like most shitty sites on the net they are bamboozled with ads? This forum shouldn't be advertised as another shitty site filled with ads!

Nope, they're rewarded for signing up, and are informed that logged in users see less. It works very well both in terms of signups & revenue- and is commonplace on pretty much all community forums who choose to monetise their traffic. Suggesting it should be the same would not encourage registrations in any way, shape or form.

You're other points aren't particularly valid because the site is attracting new members, coupled with the fact that guest browsing totals are higher than ever & the site actually browses nicer (especially on mobile) for guests than it did a couple of months ago due to changes we made - albeit the corrupt ad (now removed) that Alan pointed out aside. Nothing will be changing on this front.

Just to back this up, Alexa traffic ran change Jan 17 through to present shows the positive change. This is accurate enough to verify the claims I'm making above.

We will have to agree to disagree then, you may get some signing up but I'm pretty sure you would get many more if they weren't bombarded with ads and pop ups, and I visit many other community forums and don't have half as many ads as this one, if at all.

How many new members hang around? All the regulars have been here forever.

Site feels pretty stale to me tbh.
for what it's worth, I joined August last year and still log in and post most days but I still consider myself 'relatively' new compared to most of the members. This is one of the better sites that I've found over the past few years.

I can publish some statistics on new members from the Xenforo admin panel soon which show registrations, post stats etc. In terms of traffic totals we are much busier than we were in late 2016; some 15-20% busier on match days, I'll publish updated Analytics soon as I know Rad used to do that and people liked to see them.

As for the regulars, that's exactly what you'd want.
