Right. So a potential Black manager thinks he won't bother getting the qualifications because he won't get appointed as a manager. But then will be the first to moan when he gets passed over in favour of a better qualified White candidate.

Ethnic minority.

Ethnic minority cannot be an acceptable alternative to non-white as white is not a term of ethnicity but of colour - and explicitly so in the Premier League context.

Gordon Taylor of the PFA referred to "hidden resistance" preventing black managers getting jobs",. If you want to widen this to Asians for example, or whoever then fine by me. I happen to believe that there probably is a degree of discrimination (deliberate or otherwise) that could benefit from attention.

Nevertheless in terms of colour - which is certainly not ethnicity - I would applaud Alan Brazil for the precision of his language and condemn the politically correct [you choose the noun]s who criticised him from the moral high ground of Mount Ignorance. Non white is the problem area correctly identified.

For example, we often see on governement forms "white irish" and "white other" and "white british". I'm not sure how close ethnically white celts feel to white anglo Saxons but there is probably a tendency for a mix of those ethnicities anyway - before we even get on to white jewish for example.

If we were looking at premier league managers, we would see a massive discrimination against non whites but if we were analysing it ethnically we would have to say why do "white other" get all the plum jobs as compared to "white british" and start a campaign to support "white british" as well as Alan Brazil's "non whites"

We obviously couldn't say that the "white others" are better managers than "white british" as that would be racist even if that could be inferred from "the market" - another modern holy grail.
