No way that's a penalty, they're both holding on to eachother and then Giroud throws himself to the ground.

He pulled his shirt and then scissor tackled him to stop him from getting up and scoring a fine goal.

Edit: Just received a tip-off that a certain Liverpool fan PM'd Nilsson begging him to back him up on this point. Absolutely pathetic.

If only I needed backing up. Anyone who isn't an Arsenal fan can see it's a bullshit decision. As shown in the thread.

Giroud is clearly having his shirt held on to and pulled by Fonte and given the new directive issued to the refs this season it has to be given as a penalty.

The problem comes with the consistency of punishment when it comes to these sort of incidents because if the refs do start to follow this new instruction properly we'll be seeing a ridiculous amount of penalties.

On corners and free kicks delivered into the box I've seen a couple of refs go straight in with a warning before the ball is kicked and then monitored the situation as it developed after that but clearly you can't do that in open play.

A guid dram
Let Tissier said it's laziness all this shirt pulling and it's ironic that the day he said that, his own team gets a penalty against them for it. I agree with him though, the defenders aren't marking their man properly or checking the trajectory of the ball, they are resorting to this and it's schoolboy stuff.

Just received a tip-off that a certain Mr. I Wright emailed a certain presenter of a highlights and analysis based football programme begging him not to ask his opinion on the penalty call. Absolutely pathetic.

(Rob) Holding onto the shirt forces referee's into making a decision this season, so it was a stupid thing to do from Fonte.

We're a bit shit this season anyway, after a few seasons of being spoiled other than our first season back in the top flight, which was to be expected I'm not liking it. :( Not even that excited for Thursday.

Saturday was probably the best performance we have had under Puel. Long missed three great chances, I'd even say two of them were sitters. Our failure to sign a striker is going to be a talking point all season.
