Fergie left behind a title winning side. Wenger leaves a side scraping into the Europa league spots. They're not really that similar at all.

Rodgers won't be accepted by the fans, and a couple of iffy results will have the banners out.

This is true but it was perceived that UTD team was at the end of a cycle. A lot of players were over 30 and we were talking about a difficult job because there was to change.

In this situation, where Arsenal it carries a great losing team's aura behind, there is not a team to be refounded but there are very high expectations and the team has not qualified for the second year in a row for the Champions League.

In my opinion, in both cases, we talk about two very difficult job, maybe for different reasons, i know.

I started watching Premier League about the season when Wenger took over Arsenal. To be honest I didn't fully appreciate his great work until after he won his last League title. It is such a weird feeling thinking that I am going to watch next season's football without him being Arsenal's manager. I don't think my football world has ever had a big change like this.

Although in recent seasons Arsenal was terrible to watch on many occasions while there have been many other sides playing exciting football like Arsenal did before, I still think it is a big loss for football that we don't have Wenger at Arsenal any more. Maybe it's that his love for the club and the game seems so pure that is rarely seen today. And surely it's also because that he is like an icon that reminds me more than twenty years being a football fan in a way I am afraid that I can never be again.

Wenger was amazing for the Premier League without doubt and helped build what it is now, I think in end Wenger allowed his heart to rule his head and stayed on to long but suppose sometimes it is hard to leave something behind and move on.

One thing I won't miss about Wenger is his endless moaning when Arsenal don't get a decision their way ..

Has he ever accepted anything ?

He hasn't even done that, he walked before he was pushed - I still think that he sees himself as the best man to take Arsenal forward.

So looks like Arteta will be the new manager.. thoughts?

I'm really underwhelmed but curious of the unknown i guess, and being honest it will be hard to do any worse than we have the last 2 seasons in the league regardless of who is in charge

Its worth a shot, why not. Ancelotti would demand too much money to fix the squad, and wouldn't be a long term manager there anyway; Allegri looks to be settled at Juve; and there isn't many other big names available. So why not go with someone who knows the club, has learnt under one of the best, and may bring something fresh to the club to kick them on in the mid to long-term.

Arteta. Hmmmm. Bringing in a manager with no experience of management, never mind winning something, is a bad idea for me. Sure, these people have to start somewhere, but why not work their way up the ladder? We're not even talking about someone who developed a winning mentality as a player, spending most of his career at Everton and having a single piece if silverware to his name in the form of an FA Cup medal from his spell at Arsenal. These things count for me.

Could work, but if it does it will likely be a long term plan, I can't see anything happening in the next 2-3 seasons. Will Arsenal fans have the patience for that?

Arsenal fans must have the patiente, regardless of the coach that will be chosen. I think that Arsene in 1996 it was not a shared choice, but ..

Arteta was a good player, he knows the Premier League and Arsenal FC.. He is in the Guardiola's staff, he is young.

I think that he could be a "gamble", but that's what maybe arsenal needs.

Arsenal are doing things on the cheap, as usual.

That's not to say that it can't work out, though.

I don't think they've much to lose tbh, especially with the lack of big name managers out there just now. See how the season goes with him; if it looks promising then fine, continue. If not, he'll be cheap enough to let go and they could maybe go for one of the bigger boys then. And tbh us neutrals don't want Allegri or someone of that ilk heading there as we'd have to worry about them again!

I have no idea if this is going to work out, but it is way more interesting than Arsenal getting Carlo or Allegri.

Makes far more sense than Arteta but still somewhat uninspiring. Still, it's not as if there is an abundance of experienced, winning managers available at the moment.

Certainly a better choice than Tuchel, I'm surprised PSG are going for him.

Yes, Emery would be the perfect choice.

We're morons.

Unai is a good fit for Arsenal. Has decent nous but needs a couple of trophies (real ones not just Ligue 1 and two bob domestic cups) to get his confidence back. Give him a year or two and Arsenal will be back in the CL. Then the real test will occur.

Replacing Wenger with Emery would be such an Arsenal thing to do.

Emery is an excellent appointment, realistically probably the best they could do.

Ancelotti might have taken it but can't see him putting in the same energy towards it.

I can only assume the opposition to Emery is because he's a Johnny Foreigner who has never managed in the EPL before. His record is excellent.

Certainly was never any danger Allegri was taking a massive step down going to Arsenal.

Is this the same guy that surrendered a four goal lead with no away goals conceded in the 2nd leg to Barca? If so he sounds perfect for Arsenal.

I think between the 4th and 6th goal, PSG completed five (5) passes of which two were from kick-off. There isn't a manager in the world that can help a team in such a mental state.

Emery's away record in general with Sevilla was bizarrely poor, 17 wins in 66. Something Arsenal have their own issues with currently. Then his time at PSG was hard to gauge, lost one title to Monaco despite the financial advantage.

It's certainly a less risky choice than throwing Arteta in completely at the deep end, as interesting as that would have been. However there are better reasons to scutinise the appointment beyond 'Johnny Foreigner'.

A fresh start for everyone at the club, and some more balanced investment in that squad this summer, should improve things you'd think.
