Did you just choose a random colour scheme then with no reason behind it? Many clubs seem to go with the colours on the towns coat of arms or stuff like that. I think that explains Exeter and Plymouth's colours. We changed to yellow and blue back in the 50's to supposedly reflect the yellow beaches and blue skies of the bay :2thumb:

We used to play in Green back in the day

I think there are a fair number of clubs who just came upon their colours randomly. Back when they were founded nobody thought they were starting a hundred year tradition, a lot of clubs started out as just one of many competing in local leagues and there are well known cases such as juventus and arsenal of teams whose colours originated when another club donated their kits.

I've just read a book about our early history, we used to wear navy and yellow stripes though the author uncovered no evidence of why we wore those colours or why we switched to plain blue.

Our blue and white stripes were because we took some kit from Huddersfield, I think.

he's tetchy and touchy ain't he....

One of the best one about Devon lad was that he confidently predicted that Exeter would batter Mansfield etc etc and we would be taught lesson.

Anyhow, Mansfield won 4-1, and he “conveniently” disappeared for about a month.

Went down in folklore

I made the colours by using the colour picking tool on the thumbnails on historicalkits.co.uk

I don’t give a fuck if folk say yellow or amber, it’s just not well known were actually amber.

It wasn’t aimed at you

For the first couple of years in our history the club used the old colours of St Sidwalls United who were absorbed into the city team... the colours of that strip were Green and White!! Unimaginable these days!

This abomination lasted from 1901 until 1911 when Exeter made their own strip to differentiate ourselves from the other shittier Devonshire teams and better honour the colours of the county city.

I expect it will probably some time this year, yes. Tomorrow at 9:30 am to be exact.

League 1 will be messy if McAnthony takes legal action against the EFL and other clubs which he's threatening.

Mansfield are actually amber, being pedantic.

But given our fans chant “yellows” it’s understandable others would think that

It is amber but your other colour's blue not black. OTOH, three ''southern'' clubs wear amber and black - us, Newport and Sutton United. And while not exactly amber there's Barnet as well, while Torquay wear yellow. Up north, there's only you Stags and Solihull in amber/yellow. You 'ard northerners probably reckon said colours are too soft for footy ;)

I’m pleased we don’t, amber and black looks rough and the colours don’t mix, think amber and blue compliments each other better.

However in the grand scheme of things I don’t give a fuck either way

Oh btw Adam, I recall the U's having to get a third strip (iirc it was green/white) for the visit to Field Mill back in the connie days. I have always thought it a tad tinpot when clubs have to produce a kit for all of 90 mins of league football. It's not like it's a one off occasion like a play off final or something.

Agreed haha.

I remember a Tamworth fan down there (in the days of the conference) laughing with some beers mentioning that he was confused that we played in white, chanted “yellows” but actually play in amber

He's basically a more successful variant of Glenn Tamplin

Is he successful though? I know he was originally, but he's spent the last 7 years hovering in the same position in League One despite blowing ridiculous fees and wages in that time. The likes of Yeovil and Burton have played Championship football in that time too!

He's successfully conned the footballing world into thinking Peterborough are some kind of sleeping giant who belong in the Championship.

Anyway, it doesn't take dramatic levels of success to rank above Glenn Tamplin.
