We are short up front, have injuries to centre midfield and a manager who needs to make some serially good decisions to get the best out the team and hasn't really done it so far.
We were blowing after and hour against Peterborough, I'm not convinced we've managed pre season very well in terms of having the players fully fit to do 90 mins after a lot of substitutions after an hour in the earlier matches.
Based on one friendly I've high hopes for Jack Hinchy who although not fully match fit showed some real class against strong opposition.

We've exceeded my expectations , played well at times and been resolute when not. We'd have beaten Shrewsbury in the cup with Bass in goal too.
Good start for Maynard, he's done well with his use of the squad and retained a good style of football to watch for the most part.
7.5 out of 10 start for me.

In the month of August Notts got 1-4 points more than the predictions. The only consistent prediction that they all got right was 3 points at home to Grimsby.

Carlisle (H) - Important to put down a marker at home against a side that I think will grow into the season. Win.
Swansea (A) EFL Cup - About as poor a draw as we could've had. Lose.
Morecambe (A) - Hopefully we'll be able to take advantage of a lack of team cohesion with their 57 new signings. Win.
Fleetwood (A) - The third of three really long distance away games in succession, I think Fleetwood will be ok this year. Lose.
Chesterfield (H) - Tricky one but I think a game we should look to win if we're to be successful this year. Win.

More or less bang on, but we got an additional point up at Fleetwood. Very happy with the opening month.

Combine favourable officiating and generous Grimsby defending and it was a nailed on 4-1 victory.

Swindon (H) - DRAW - more on the fence as I know nothing about them, and first game of the season is always tricky

Derby (A, LC) - LOSE - probably are there for the taking based on PSF but imagine they will be much better organised this time.

Crewe (A) - WIN - assuming Crewe haven't changed much over the years and generally like a go, probably will play into our hands. Noted their home form is wobbly too.

Man City U21s (H, BSM Trophy) - DONT CARE

Salford (H) - WIN - had these down as a bottom third sort of team, so one we should be looking at win at home.

Gillingham (A) - LOSE - our record here is awful from what I remember, it's 12.30 KO, barely any away fans, not one that strikes me as being a particularly excitable fixture
