Yey, my favourite thread returns. How will your club do in the first month of the season? Yes, I know its difficult to judge but hey, why not give it a bash eh?

For us:

Port Vale(H) - Draw. We have a decent record against them and hopefully that continues here. I think we should be able to grab a draw here.

Preston(H, LC) - Loss. Unless they bring their reserves, I think they will have too much for us in this one. Might be able to drag it into ET, but ultimately, I think we'll lose this one.

Scunny(A) - Loss. Scunny have made some shrewd additions and I think look capable of being a dark horse for the play offs. Think they'll grind out a win in this one.

Coventry(A) - Draw. Regardless of how much they might or might not have improved, playing in an empty Ricoh will take it's toll I think. Hopefully we can continue our unbeaten record there and grab a draw.

Bury(H) - Loss. They have a stacked front line and I think they'll have too much for us to handle. Narrow defeat I think.

Wigan(A) - Loss. Comfy defeat I think, they've made some impressive signings and will be the team to beat this season.

So, hard to see where a win is coming from amongst that lot, although a lot hinges on the Vale game. We win that, then I think the next 3 league games take on a very different complexion, especially if any of those teams get off to a slow start. Potential for good start, also the potential a rubbish one too. Yep, I'll stay sitting on the fench.

How will you do?

Jesus fucking christ, well I recomend you don't go so to spare yourself the agony.

Vale - Win, they were 2 points better than us last season, and with our cast offs they may be slightly worse if our
additions improve us, but who knows how a derby will pan out, but you have to bck your own club (You should try it JJ).

Preston - Win, we do well against Championship clubs in the round, and we do well against Preston at home.

Scunny - Draw. Confidence will be good now, but Scunny are an improved outfit on paper.

Coventry - Win. It's just what we do at the Ricoh.

Bury - Win. Been hyped up a lot have Bury. They will get relagted though.

Wigan - Draw. They are going to be the best team in this league for me, though I think we will put in a cracking effort and snatch a draw.

You have to be optimistic, or what is the point in 'supporting' your team.

Of course you don't have to be optimistic. Who the fcuk predicts they're going to win/draw every game? My favourite games are ones I've had us nailed on to lose and we've won. You can support your team without being a mindless happy clapper. Think it's called being realistic or some nonsense like that.

Bradford (H) - Win 2-1. Tough and I expect Bradford to do well but hope we can benefit from being at home first game.

Exeter City LC (H) 1-1. Lose on pens.

Bury(A) 1-0. Don't fancy it. Clarke bound to score.

Port Vale(H) 3-1 win. Still our bitches.

Southend(A) 1-1 draw. Expect Southend to be ok.

Sheff United(H) - 2-2 draw. Would like to avoid 10 goals in this one unless at least 6 of them are ours.

8 from 12.

Pretty tough starter month, but hopefully teams will be more wary about playing us this season. They should be anyway.

So I got only 2 out of 6 results correct, but we have 5 more points than I expected - win!

So, called 2 points from our first 5 games plus a cup exit and got it spot on. Would say I'm happy with that, but I'm clearly not.

Was right that we'd go through in the LC R1, and get 10 points. Got all the results wrong apart from winning at Blackpool, though...

Well when the fixtures came out i must admit i was worried, as it looked a tough start for us and i like to think that a good start sets the tone for the season, likewise if you get off to a poor start it's so difficult to recover. So, 6th place, three wins (two of them away) and a draw from the first 5 games represents a superb start for us given the events of the close season and the loss of key personnel. Saunders has made a good impression so far and definitely walked the walk. He appears to have won over several fans who doubted his appointment by making some very effective signings and giving last season's fringe players an opportunity which they have so far largely made the most of...all in all it's encouraging stuff.

Chesterfield (H) - Given their fire sale, I'd say home banker. We'll probably get dicked now I've said that. WIN.

You saw that one coming.

Where did I say we should win every home game this year? I said we should be looking to win every home fixture this season, because this league is shit and it always has been. We lost once at home in our last season here in a division containing the likes of Southampton, Leeds and Norwich. There's not one side I can see that I think should turn us over at the Den -- even on paper.
At the moment, there's not one side who should be fearing a trip to the Den.

1 point ahead of what I predicted at the moment. A win on Monday will make it 4.

Four defeats on the trot, four wins in a calendar year, no win at home on a saturday since last August.

Yeah, well done for working that one out genius.

Cheers mate, I'm almost as clever as the idiot who said there isn't one team in the division who should be turning Milwall over at the Den.

If you insist on that reading even after I've explained it then fine. I don't have much pride about this sort of thing. I really don't care that much about being 'shown up', only I'd like to be shown up for something I've actually said, not because my accuser has a weird inferiority complex.

If it helps your understanding, most clubs in this league should be looking to win every home game, because this league is and always will be completely fucking shit.

Yea I clearly misunderstood I though you meant there isn't one side in the division who should be turning over you at the Den like you said when in fact the opposite is true and every team will be looking at a trip to the Den as a great opportunity to pick up 3 points.

Jockney having a nightmare.

The operative word there is 'should', not 'could'. Derby County should be turning us over. Middlesbrough should be turning us over. Those teams with real pedigree and budgets far exceeding our own should well be fucking turning us over, and I am more than willing to compromise on points when those clubs come to town. The likes of Barnsley, Coventry and Chesterfield -- and no offence to those teams, who have already bested us pretty comprehensively at the Den -- do not, or did not, send me into a desperate panic for a peace treaty. I'm sorry if that's not paying you due respect, but it's the truth.

Come next August, if we're still in the division despite continued poor form, and if those teams are still here having narrowly missed out on promotion and not weakened in the interim, I will have more cause to be apprehensive. But until then, naw, winning attitude all the way. We should beat Wigan and Sheffield United at home and I'll be disappointed with anything less before the game.
