I have been to every ground in this division apart from 4

They are

Plymouth
Rotherham
Blackburn
Southend

I will be looking to do the first three without a doubt. I have already got plans in place for Plymouth. Anybody got any stories to tell about these four stadiums and pubs, places to avoid, quality of stadia etc. Also feel free to preview all away travel in this thread

Are you coming down just for the game, arriving a couple of hours early and then shooting off, or staying overnight?

If the former I hear that the Green Taverners do a pint and pasty for a fiver, plus entertainment on site. I know away fans are welcome, but I think it is popular and you might need to book in advance. However, I have never been because I have the kids with me, so some fellow greens may know more about it.

There is a pub the Brit nearby, but every time I tried to get in there was no room.

Town is a twenty-twenty five minute walk so there are pubs in town.

If you are staying before or after the game there is a lot more on offer.

Not many away fans boozers in Blackburn, golden cup is probably your best bet about a 5 to ten mins walk to stadium. Fernhurst is closer but away shirts were not permitted the last I heard. Wouldn't really say there's any no go areas if your behaving yourselves.

Staying for the weekend. Thanks for the info. We got lucky with that date with it being a bank holiday.

Oh the ground is three quarters finished, and you will be in a finished bit, there is a roof and you are right behind and to the left of one of the goals. It is in the far side of the ground which is a bit of a pain, but I don't think I have seen rival fans being given trouble before or after. The Family End which we often go in is one side of the goal from you and then Grandstand, which tends to be older and more sedate, is on the other side. So while there might be the odd knuckle dragger acting hard a hundred yards away, the kids don't attack the away support. Though if you hear a small voice shouting "sit down shut up" I apologise it is probably my ten year old. It will be quickly followed by "ouch" when I try too get him to desist.

In the recent past the stewards have a reputation for not being the friendliest, I well remember an odd situation with Darth Vader and some Stormtroopers when Hartlepool came down. However, they did seem to improve towards the end of last season. Personally, other than the last game of the season when we were down the other end, and there was one jobsworth stopping the players talking to the kids (they were encouraged to do so for ever other game of the season), I have never had any problems.

What I will say is that most teams don't bring many down to us, those that do usually get respect for it.

Tell me what you are into nearer the time and I and fellow greens will be able to advise more. I know more about the places to eat and real ale pubs than the younger hang-out, but most people end up at The Barbican. Which is good, with loads of bars/restaurants and the like. If you have a bit more refinement/money/or older birth certificate Royal William Yard is for you.

Shame really, Blackburn was decent when the Fernhurst was open for football fans, big pub that accomodated a lot of away fans and was decent craic. Shame that Manchester United fans smashed it up two seasons running which caused them to ban all football fans. The Golden Cup is tiny unfortunately.

It's a drive 20 minutes walk away from the stadium and no booze away day now.

We're pretty lucky that there's 30+ pubs/bars that are within 15 minutes of the DW, train stations which are the only one on both the West Coast - North to South line and West to East mainlines is less than 15 minutes walk from the Stadium, depending on how fast you walk. Huge car parks next to the stadium as well. So if you want to hop on the train and enjoy a few pints then Wigan is an ideal away day. Massive away end as well with a large function room in the stand for away fans. Several breweries based on Wigan as well so proper real ale is served with your pie!

Having been to Home Park more times than I care to remember, including my first Gills game in 1981, I concur with what BE said, though I was always told that Noahs Ark had a bit of a reputation.

Last time, I went to a couple of pubs on Mutley Plain, which is nearer to the ground.

The away end is decent, and the train only takes 1 hour 40 minutes.

Mutley Plain is a really good shout, and then it is a ten-fifteen minute walk through Peverell.

Not good about Blackburn. Thought it would be a cracking away day. Best away day so far in this division has been

Shrewsbury- Really nice town
Bradford- Top class stadium and decent for pubs
Charlton- Excellent ground and decent for pubs

To be fair every away day is a decent one. Just some are better than others.

Blackburn is probably the worst town centre in England in terms of pubs and bars.

As said, Golden Cup is the only real option close to the ground but its small.

Wigan and Bradford are decent on the boozing front, obviously shitpool too.

I assume you mean in London? Charlton itself is an absolute disaster for pubs these days.

As for the OP. Blackburn is a dreadful away day, as already stated there isn't many pubs, when I think of Blackburn I just think of that McDonald's opposite.

Southend is a shithole, it's alright for us Londoners. We can have a few hours on the seafront before the game and then just jump on the train and be back boozing in London in less than an hour afterwards. Having said that, have had some good nights in Southend but it's not great and the weirdos are aplenty.

It's now 3 pound but pasty and drink separate. I have the ticket line number if required.

There is live entertainment between 1300 and 1430 behind the grandstand in the GT Suite

We have arguably the best stadium in the league, but the worst atmosphere.

It's awful, unless we sell it out with a big cup game like we did for Man Utd. Good night that was.

Blackburn probably equals Bolton as the worst North West away day. Just drink in Preston before getting the train to Mill Hill.

Have we got any Shrews fans on here? If an inebriated away fan decided to walk to the ground from the station, would they find an assortment of public houses along the way to fuel their journey?

The Fortescue is a great pub. Make sure you don't walk through the park to the ground on a rainy night. It can get a bit boggy.

Not a Shrewsbury resident or supporter, but can recommend (if you haven't been already), The Brooklands hotel/pub which is on the way to/from the stadium on the roundabout. Always very popular on match days for both sets of fans as its the nearest pub, and it's on the way back into Shrewsbury town.

Also, if you're driving, theres a car park right next to the pub, charges £5.

Ours must be an half decent awayday.

Location is perfect for train which is 5 min walk then you have plenty of choice for pubs including 3 wetherspoons which are all within 5 min walk to stadium.

Has for the stadium, well i haven't seen a better new build than ours under a 20k capacity tbh and there isn't 1 bad view in the house even if your front row.

The ground is decent for a new build, there is one major flaw in your argument however.....................................location

Preferred Milmoor. Remember drinking in the Tivoli when I was eleven years old lol. My dad bought me 7 pints of Fosters that day. Stumbled to the ground to watch a very entertaining 0-0 draw. My dads mate ended to getting a kick in from another Scunny lad.

How can you prefer Millmoor if you've never been to NYS. I would love to have 1 last game at Millmoor though but i wouldn't ever swap for the stadium we have got now even though i like old school stadiums.
