The ground is decent for a new build, there is one major flaw in your argument however.....................................location
I assume the location problem is the proximity to no less than three Witherspoons. Amazing how popular shit stale ale is...

Where would you like it to be...........just wondering?

Anywhere except Rotherham perhaps? It makes my next nearest town of Redruth look classy by comparison.

Have we got any Shrews fans on here? If an inebriated away fan decided to walk to the ground from the station, would they find an assortment of public houses along the way to fuel their journey?
The walk from the station (which is in the town centre) to the ground is around 20-25 minutes. There are plenty of pubs in the town and on the way to the stadium, what are you after?

1) I am not from Gillingham
2) My username would also suggest otherwise
3) Having actually been to Rotherham, I know what I am talking about

Any town of your size that has 3 'spoons is never going to be good

Surely for Rotherham away you'd drink in Sheffield beforehand and then make your way into Rotherham after a few pints.

Wigan first away game for us, lots of pubs to sample.

Strangely enough the beer tastes the same in Rotherham as it does in Sheffield, it's probably cheaper too.
There are only about 3 or 4 pubs it's probably best to avoid.
The designated pub for away fans is the Bridge In, but there must be at least another 15 pubs within a 10 minute walk of the ground where there would be no problem getting served or with the locals.
You can even get a pint outside the ground at the back of the Family Stand (East) which is open to both sets of fans, bit more pricey though.
I really can't see why any away fan needs to detour to Sheffield for a pint before the match.
After it, well that's another thing altogether.

Naw we are alright in Rotherham thanks.
We played in Sheffield for 4 years it wasn't too popular with the fans.

Obviously I'm gutted it doesn't meet with your approval, but it's home to us thanks.

While everyone is having a pop at Rotherham, you might like to take a peek at this.

Looks like there are a few places to avoid, I won't though.
All the town centres in the country seem to be on a downer, I blame the government, the police and the price of soap and water.
I don't blame any football fan for their town centre.
Thank God for Bristol, Plymouth and Shrewsbury eh?

Millerbri while I have been to nearly all on that bottom 10 list, I have never been to Rotherham so I have no idea if the criticisms on this forum are valid. However, I suspect that for some posters Rotherham, as a place and a football club, is tarred by the brush that is SERNWA.

Camborne Gill is soooo right about Redruth.

So we've discussed stadiums in terms of number of train stations and platforms, now we've moved on to proximity to wetherspoons.

I call that progress.

Not after a real ale place or anything like that, just a general pub. Not after a good place for food or anything either. Cheers.

From personal experience, and god help me, if you mix a ratio between railway stations and their platforms, compared to the number of 'spoons in that town/city, then technically Redruth wins e.g.
Rotherham 2 platforms, 3 spoons = 1.5
Camborne 2 platforms 1 spoons = 0.5
Plymouth 8 platforms 3 spoons = 0.375
Redruth 2 platforms 0 spoons = 0.00

I'd definitely pop into the 'Nags Head' which is on Wyle Cop near our old ground on the the way to the ground. The 'Vaults' near the train station is also good!

I would allow 35 minutes walking time plus drinking time, you will see plenty of options en route as well as those mentioned.

The Vaults (on your left as you go up the hill from the station)
follow road round until you reach

Nags Head Wyle Cop
Come out of the pub continue down the Cop and turn right down Julians Friar and you could call in at the Hop and Friar
Across the Greyfriars footbridge and turn right and call in at the Crown

Coming out of the Crown door turn left then right up Greyfriars Road to the end of the road and you will see the Masonic to your right

From Masonic carry on up the road to the

Belle Vue Tavern or carry on until you reach the Meole Roundabout and the Wild Pig is across the road.(was the Brooklands)

from there ground is 5 minutes so follow the crowd!
