For me it was in the Alex's promotion season of 2002/2003. Poor old port vale kept getting smacked by us in the league at their place, in the fa cup at their place and the football leage trophy (or whatever it was called then) at their place, at least our big away followings in all 3 matches helped put some pennies in the bank for them. Things got so bad for lowly vale that their more aristocratic neighbours even had to print the match day tickets for the FA cup game at vale park.

Well the sun briefly shone on lowly vale, they managed a creditable 1-1 draw at fortress Alexandra and they celebrated like they had won the cup, all 1600 of them as we don't need to give them any extra when we are doing well. They even had the chance to abuse thier former captain and player of the year Dave Brammer, who we plucked from them for £500,000, because we could. That day started well for them as some of their fans did a charity walk from vale park to the Alexandra Stadium and had a blanket collection on the pitch, much to the amusement of the locals. Also, kindly Crewe Alexandra let vales assembled rag tag players who were not fit get some rehabilitation at state of the art Reaseheath, at no cost to cash strapped vale.

This true tale seems to be air brushed from the stench filled air of burslum. Anybody else have any hardluck stories on lesser opponents?

Has to be any side that visit's Port Vale for me.

Thankfully our club used to provide coaches out of Burslem when we played them. Absolute heroes.

Had to feel a bit sorry for Walsall fans last season when for their away days against us last year, JPT final and final game of the season at Ashton Gate where they were beaten 8-2 so lost both and then saw us being presented with both trophies.

Getting shot at by fans of Crewe and Dagenham really is like a giant fighting off a couple of midgets.

Huddersfield fans. Our club should have given them a refund after that invasion.

Dover fans at the Shay this February. 20 of them came by a coach which broke down not too far (relatively) from the ground. They arrived around the 80th minute when the score was 3–2 to us, and watched their team quietly slump to a defeat. I came over with the urge to text 606 over it and Robbie Savage read it out: "One fan wants to say well done to those 20 Dover fans whose coach broke down and uh, came in late to the uh... Shay? The Shay? Is that Halifax?" A fitting tribute from the big man.

Crewe last season. Ok so not quite in keeping with the title, but we beat them 5-2 away in the league, then two weeks later 3-0 in the JPT and finally we won 4-0 against them at home in the league too.

Feel sorry for away fans?

WTF is all that about?

Unless some personal tragedy has struck I couldn't give a flying one.

Always feel sorry for fans of clubs like Dagenham and Stevenage when they come to Crewe. Just because they support those teams.

We played Darlington at home on a tuesday a couple of days after they'd gone into administration. They had about 30 fans (understandably), and we beat them 1-0 with a last minute penalty. Genuinely felt a bit bad for them. A bit.

Wrong forum, but...

Probably Alfreton. Hit 19 (31 in total including the matches at their place too) goals past them at Blundell Park over the past 4 seasons.

I feel jealous of any away fans that come here, getting to experience "The Industrial Garden" that is Scunthorpe for the first time must be just incredible. How I wish I could have that first whiff of polluted air once again.

This.

I feel the same way about away fans coming to Molineux. You don't get many away fans taking selfies unless it's reconfirming dental records.
We do have a car wash for £3.50 further up the road if your car needs it. Or you can be relieved of your sat-nav if not. I'm grasping for away day attractions that don't involve the serious crime squad or paramedics.

Bristol City at ours last year.

Really felt for their elderly fans having to get up and cheer so many times on a cold Tuesday night.

Not only that, they had to stay behind and clap their team for confirming promotion, rather than getting to leave bradford early! Their poor joints must have been killing them

I felt a bit sorry for Hartlepool fans last year when we completely dismantled them. It was before Ronnie Moore took over and they looked doomed. I saw some of their fans after and a young girl with her dad was crying. I didn't enjoy that.

Always feel sorry for Crewe fans, particularly in the winter. Must be very difficult putting on gloves when you have 6 fingers on one hand and 3 on the other. Thank the lord for mittens I say! Hurrah!

I remember my old man telling me ages ago he saw us play Charlton at BP (must have been 70s or 80s) on a cold December midweek evening and there was just 1 travelling supporter. Fucking 1.

It was fucking freezing, pissing it down and we won.

You've said that twice now, young Nicholas. And it isn't any funnier than it was the first time.

I don't think either areas are shitholes, in all fairness. They've both got decent points, and bad points.

I felt sorry for myself when I travelled from Exeter to Carlisle to watch us lose 4-1 and get relegated.
