'B' teams in EFL

They had a perfectly good reserve team league of their own before they scrapped it. But yeah it’ll probably be a condition of them offering any financial help to the EFL. Which would of course, entirely fuck up the integrity of the lower leagues, and no doubt lead to many more clubs going under (if they survive Covid itself).

Not a surprise anymore that a PL Club representative fails to see the irony of the him preaching about the unsustainability of the EFL when a) he's CEO of one of the most unsustainable Club's in world football and b) the PL is the reason why the EFL has become unsustainable.

The EFL is unsustainable, I think we can agree on that, but that's in large parts down to the PL driving prices up and everyone trying to keep pace, which feeds itself down the pyramid. There needs to be tighter financial controls all the way through the pyramid but even that still relies on the likes of UEFA and FIFA doing their job, which they won't, because their focus is on the WC/CL etc.

You'd also think by now someone within Man City would tell him that the football structure here in England is far deeper and stronger than Spain. You can't fit 'B' teams in it.

I don't think EFL Club's would accept it in any event, it'd need 90% majority to pass through and I don't think it'll get to a vote anyway.

The PL offer at the minute sounds like it's £50m grant, then additional long term, low cost loans. The £50m grant is well below what's needed and £34m of the £50m is the recovered from Fulham not receiving their parachute payment due to going up at the first time of asking.

As said though, I don't think the PL should be footing the full bill but they've not really helped themselves in their "we've got our own rebates to fund etc etc" lines to the Government when they've spent £1.2bn on players in the summer transfer window.

EDIT - A start would also be to make it cheaper for EFL Club's to loan young PL players, they cost a fortune unless you have a manager who knows people up there. There are all sorts of clauses they insist on.

I don’t think Man City would be preaching the same had they still been in the third tier (not that long ago).

As for the idea proposed from Soriano, he can just fuck off.

Anything that makes clubs lower down the pyramid less likely to survive has to be fought vigorously and EFL clubs need to stand together united against it.

If it did happen, how would B teams integrate into the pyramid? Surely, a number of clubs would have to go bust before B teams could take up a place in the EFL. Just looked at how the rest of Europe do it and no B teams are allowed into the same league as the parent club.

Attendances are as you would expect with the likes of Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern Munich etc attracting less than 1000 in most cases.

In a way the present loan system is holding EFL clubs back. We have 5 - soon to be 6 - loanees. All are regular starters, so if we get promoted we’re left with the raggedy bare bones of journeymen and yet another rebuild next season. Covid has probably caused every club to max out the loan market which is understandable.

Let the so called PL giants fuck off to form a Europa Super League and reorganise the rest of us into what was a successful format for decades.

Now i can see teams being aligned to Premier teams where they take 4/5 players each year and for that the Premier lge will cover 100% of the wages.....win,win for both teams.

Agreed a non starter, but what about say Barrow with Dunne in charge who already had good links with Blackburn through loaning Matty Platt and Tom White last season.......what if they loaned them 5 players this season and paying there wages......would like to hear what the Barrow fans think.

Never ever a b side to any team, its not about being a b side. Its about working with a team sharing training methods perhaps, loaning players using facilities. Each club would keep there own brand name etc.
Top and bottom of it teams are now starting to be liquidated wound up etc, clubs can go cap in hand this season,but what about in 5 years time???

The three teams you mention are a no,no.....but what if say we paired up with say chelsea
We could take 4/5 of there u23s on loan, when they come up north they can use our training facilities, Hotel etc same when we go down South.......football needs to change

Top English talent going abroad to world renowned teams to get game time as they're not getting the chance in to the stocked Champions League teams is the best thing thats happened to English development in a long time.

He want to keep his cake and eat it, to benefit from not having to pay any money to bring young talent in without having to use first team space to develop them in the first place.

Edit: I'd say that even linking the teams together is daft, hands up who wants to be the Burnley B Team while their next door neighbours get Liverpool? The main issue is insane financial inflation brought on by TV money and sugar daddying owners. Salary cap is needed (though, open to having it being modified by attendances), and more tight control of money being 'loaned' by a director.

Burnleys youth system is highly thought of....Not many Liverpool youngsters are going to break into that Liverpool side anytime soon.....Think only T.A. Arnold is the only one currently a regular and he would get in any side in world football.

Nobody is saying PL B teams would be allied with any particular EFL club. They would just enter the league somehow as independent entities. But how the EFL could expand to take, say, 6-8 B teams without the same number of EFL clubs going bust I don’t know.

Not with you on this Dan....Manchester Utd B would add nothing to the EFL as would any other B team

Don’t know where you thought I was in favour of this. It just seemed some posters seem to think some existing EFL clubs would be kinda absorbed by a PL club.

To an extent I wish that too. However , what I would like to see is that league of say 20 comprised of the previous seasons league winners and possibly runners up from the top leagues from each nation.

Only the club finishing 1st may remain to defend their title.. others return to their National league with the winner (or 2nd) of that league replacing them depending on the allocation from each country ..

Cull the rest of the European competitions at the same time and you reduce the claims of too many games being played by top clubs

Youth systems and U23 sides are now effectively seen as standalone businesses, which is why they're stockpiled and sent out most years on loan. Chelsea do it well in that respect.

[De Bruyne Salah] got shipped out because they simply were not good enough. Nathen Ake and Declan Rice likewise. Dont know how much they have wasted on goalkeepers. Drinkwater another 25m squandered.
Mount and Abrahams only got into the first team because of the transfer Embargo or they too would have been sold.

All Clubs are like that, it's not just Chelsea. We've let players go who've performed poorly here but done well elsewhere and vice versa. The difference is that Chelsea hand out longer deals to give the players time to develop, having four or five season long loan spells away before selling them. They make decent profits doing it that way and is part of their business plan.
