Whilst it's the most disciplined performance so far from us. A platform to build from?........

Be careful mate southport said that after holding us on sat and look what happened to them today. It looks like brabin has been to the george graham school of winning the league, keep your shape and bore your way to a one nil win.

I wouldnt shout that too loudly if you wanna use this thread after may mr sparrow..... Sorry mate i couldnt resist

I have already said that if Woking were relegated (which they won't be), I would show some decency and respect to the forum by posting in the correct thread - the Conference South thread.

I don't know why a certain someone seems to think that the RULES don't apply to them.

Brian Deane was with one of our directors at Saturdays game. Could be pure coincidence of course.

The rules as far as I know are that anyone person can post in any thread they like.

Best performance yet for me certainly at home having seen all 4. Getting the early goal really helped and getting another early in the second meant we could show we have a pretty decent side at the mo.
Marriott looked class again and scored a superb third, Woodyard barely put a foot or a pass wrong, the two central defenders played well, both full backs contributed plenty, Rhead was a bit quiet coming back from injury but he wasn't helped by a ref who yet again decided it's ok for the oppo to take turns trying to rip his shirt. Ref nearly lost control towards the end of the first half as both sides flying into challenges, much calmer after the break thankfully.
Gateshead's ball into the box was terrible at times but fair to a group of their fans doing a congo during the second half.

I know people don't really understand my humor and take me way too seriously (thinking about it I don't even find myself funny) but i actually agree with DSL, I quite enjoy hearing about the lower leagues etc, especially when reading alfreton have lost ;)

Me too. It would be nice if it was posted in the right thread so we aren't force fed it though.

Madly I didn't think Southport looked too bad and I said to a mate they have a goal in them after we went two up early. When they did get it going a bit was pleased that we didn't panic and were able to play ourselves back into it. Bar the next three goals there was a clearance off the line and a couple of other great chances, and to think I was worried we weren't creating. Noble was a bit quieter than his excellent showing on Sat but Moore seemed to win everything in the air and Elliott seems to be getting his confidence back again.

Nice to get our first win of the season on the board. What a difference having Ismail Yakubu back makes. Really hard-working and committed display from everyone. Murtagh - class.

Chester - I really like them. Won six of our last seven against them and no matter how bad we seem to be, we nearly always win. They're in for a difficult season. We might well send them down when we next play them in April.

Hope Railway Blue enjoyed his day out.
Can we have Ben Gordon back?

No idea how we beat Sutton and then turn up like that today. Not helped by probably the worst left back performance I've ever seen from a Chester player in the first half. Johnny Hunt, professional footballer apparently.

I'm not convinced by Gordon. Today was his best game for us but he's been awful in others - deservedly dropped against York after a horror show vs Dagenham.

Yes forget to mention Hunt. He was terrible and rightly substituted at half-time before he was probably going to be sent off in the second.

I think your lot will really struggle this season. McCarthy deciding to change the team after beating Sutton was a strange one. Although I know one change was because of injury.

Just read on the Southport forum one of their fans turned up late, got sold a ticket but then not let in. What a contrast with us on Saturday and embarrassing.
I hope the club investigate this properly and, if it is found to be true, ensure that it never happens again.

Fragile confidence with us. If we get ahead then we're quite good, much better than last season. If we go behind though, I can't see us getting back in to games. Ended up playing two or three different systems in the second half with players out of position.

From one bogey team to another on Saturday now.

I was reading this too and it sounded a terrible way to treat a visiting fan. It would be nice if your chairman stepped in and refund both ticket and travel costs. It sounds like the New Lawn stadium manager should be sent to Maidstone for extensive re-training.

I'm struggling to come up with any decent reason for refusal, and even if it's some half-arsed policy why sell him a ticket? Seems he only came from Gloucester which is a small mercy but as you say he should get a refund of all costs at minimum.

Sort of the same with us this season but we've led three times to either draw or lose. I was worried when you got it back to 1-1, given the recent meltdowns our defence have been through. Once it was 2-1 I was pretty confident we'd get a third. I had no idea what formation you were playing in the second half.

That's 6 now isn't in their games isn't it?????

Not quite. 4 in total, and Downer was the first Sutton player to see red this season.

Couldn't make today's game, but very happy with 3 points. We've now scored 10 goals with 9 different scorers

Our oldest player starting yesterday was 27. Not sure what our average age is but just goes to show how inexperienced our team really is and how a massive loss Boucard who is away on international duty and Gutts who can't play on fake pitches due to his knees.

Away form will dictate where we finish which I still think will be just outside the play offs.

First half was terrible yesterday. Lafayette doesn't put any pressure on the ball which is one of Miller's strengths. Aldershot defenders/midfielders had so much time on the ball, we were lucky to be in the game at half time.

As soon as Miller came on we looked a different side, and it seemed to give Lafayette a much needed kick up the arse too. We could and possibly should have got at least a draw out of the game. If Miller and Moore don't start against Southport I will be livid. Kinnear Jr is surely the worst player in the league and gets into the side ahead of a League 2 standard midfielder - couldn't make it up.

Can't see Miller being too happy for much longer if your manager keeps this up. He's more than welcome to join Rhead, Marriott et al here if he wants.
You say that the rumour mill at Crabble suggests Cowley actually did make a pre-season offer for him which the club thankfully turned down!

Have you seen the bosses post match comments LW, saying he's not sure if he's going to change the team for Southport as he doesn't like making changes. I nearly chocked on my 'Golden Nuggets'
Your point about the pressure Miller brings to bare on CH's is spot on, he can be a nightmare to defend against. Lafayette with four goals simply has to stay in the team, but he must now go left or right and Miller must go straight back in the middle where he can turn and run at defenders which they hate. Like you if he and Moore do not start Saturday I too will be livid, and it will be the last away game I go to in many a week if they don't. When some of the crowd boo the team selection as they did yesterday, you know something is very seriously wrong. I never thought it was personal, or the manager had a point to prove, but this is now really making me wonder, and on a different subject, how badly are we missing Ragget btw, some of the goals we are letting in at the moment OMG!

Bizarre quotes coming out from Kinnear today:

'There are several reasons why we were not so sharp, but those will stay in house and we will try and sort it.' Doesn't exactly inspire confidence does it?

'we have got to make the most of what we have got and not get too down' which is the exact opposite of what he is doing.

'The way we play is to not change things too quick, but Miller does make a difference' Pick him then???

'we are competing with people who want lots of money for their players and players who also want lots as well' I heard yesterday that apparently Moore was picking up £1.2k a week at Orient - I don't know how much of that we are paying but why pay it to have him sat on the bench for 80 minutes a week??

All that being said, I couldn't believe my ears when supporters around me were calling for him to be sacked yesterday.

Parkinson was shocking yesterday and apparently was no better against Torquay. I'm not sure about Lafayette on the wing, he's a big target man who needs to be down the middle. Miller looked a threat on the right yesterday, I'd like to see him get a full game there.
