I have to admit our atmosphere is very good. Theres only a handful of noisy fans in this league and now we have lost a set in Lincoln. Hopefully, the four new teams can make some noise.

We've consistently lost the better atmosphere's over the last few years: Luton and Grimsby were excellent and Cambridge was decent when it got going.

Looking forward to Maidstone this season.

Impish continuing his trend of horrific banter. His team are promoted now, why does he keep posting in this section?

Four?

Going on my experiences, Lincoln were pretty good when we played them. It's been four years since we were last here so it may have changed, but I always thought Wrexham fans were decent too.

My mistake, was just thinking about the teams coming up.

Wrexham make some decent noise on there travels but make barely any noise at home.

I'll let you off. ;)

Shame Stockport didn't come up too. They were excellent when we went there. Can we have more than 250 tickets when we come to the Gallagher this time?

Oh go on then. You can have 600 tickets this time. No doubt you will be on reduced capacity until they finish the travelodge terrace.

Wow, thanks!

Yep, 2,600 capacity is reduced to I believe, although you'll still get 759 (Swanscombe End) allocation.

There was talks of doing the works required to get the SE back up to 1,300+ capacity, although I'm not sure how that's progressed!

The holiday Inn end (not Travelodge ;) ) they're hoping to have safe for fans before Christmas, which would put us back up to 4,000+.

Lincoln and Tranmere were allocated 600 so yeah, that's probably what you'll get too unless the board are feeling super generous.

The problem with grounds like The Racecourse is that they are so big (relatively speaking) a lot of atmosphere gets lost with a small crowd. When we've had big crowds (Brighton in the cup, Luton in the play offs, The Anniversary game v Grimsby), which were all around the 8-9k mark, the atmosphere is great. 3.5k with a dozen away fans and it can be a bit moribund. Places like Prenton Park, Sincil Bank etc will be the same.

Have they started work on that end yet? I'm the kind of loser who likes stadium developments, but I've not seen anything about this one getting underway?

Not yet mate. Council have approved it but are just waiting on some 'conditions'. I'd imagine it'll start before the new season begins.

Yup. It got better towards the end of the season, when even 4,500 or so would get the volume up. However, most of the season was spent listening to the depressing sound of a double-figures number of away fans' voices echoing round a silent stadium. It doesn't really get the blood pumping.

Nice to see Bromley in 6th. Not surprised Maidstone came top, the atmosphere there was fantastic last season during our 2-0 win, particularly when Maidstone missed a penalty! :2thumb:

We saved two of our worst performances of the season for you, feel privileged. Let's just say we owe you :)

To be 13th behind the likes of FGR, Barrow, Dover, Solihull, Sutton etc is farcical, SB was electric for a large part of the season, from about Xmas onwards.

Whoever judges these things must have visited before 5000 people rembered they were Lincoln fans.

I agree with The_Boss. We should be bottom. It's like a library and our incredibly cringey/tinpot stadium announcer is enough to turn away any new fans who want to come. He's horrendous- he acts like everyone has come to see him perform :bl:

Unfair criticism there. I don't see how a stadium announcer can really add much to the atmosphere unless they go in for the European style 'call & response' thing which would look dreadful at a 5th division club. And as for turning new fans away, i think he's as welcoming an announcer as you'll find anywhere in the division. If you want an example of a properly tinpot stadium announcer, check out forest green - about the cringiest, most patronising thing i've ever heard at a football ground.

As for the atmosphere at our ground, i'd agree it's pretty much non existent these days. Our home record last season killed off pretty much all optimism around the ground and had a negative effect on not just the atmosphere, but attendances as well. In contrast to away games (where i think we make a decent amount of noise), when we are at home it is extremely quiet.

The worst announcers are/were Forest Green, Eastleigh, Woking (when the woman who pronounces everyone's name wrong does it), Macclesfield and Chester.

Chester's manages to accidentally play music during the match.

I like a trip to Macc - one of my most visited grounds - but the announcer is so bad it's embarrassing. You've hit the nail on the head with him trying to be centre of attention - there are a couple of his lines that were particularly cringey:

"It's the non-league Messi!!! JOHN. PAUL. KISSOOOOOOOCK!!!"
"He's from Macclesfield...he plays for Macclesfield....he's scored for Macclesfield....it's Chris Hoooollllrrrrooooooyyyyd."
