Hull innit? Proven beyond doubt this afternoon tbf.

If you give big weighting to the present and on field performance
Then yes Hull City are currently the biggest club in Yorkshire.

But using that logic would mean AFC Bournmouth are a bigger club than Newcastle or Villa?

Leeds are the 'biggest' club in Yorkshire with Wednesday 2nd and the Blades 3rd. The rest are nowhere near those 3 to an outsider.
More successful, no doubt, but those 3 are genuinely 'big' clubs IMO.

Hull are Premier League so it's no contest until they come back down again or another Yorkshire side gets promotion (unlikely in the near future).

As the title is best Yorkshire team, it is easy
Currently
1 Boro
2 Hull
3 Owls
For your info blades, the blades are currently 9th (based on this years league positions)

Historically
1 Owls
2 Leeds
3 Blades
based on number of major honours won
(apologies to Huddersfield if you belong in these 3, not sure how many trophys you have won.)

If you had asked THE BIGGEST Yorkshire club l would say
1 Leeds
2 Owls
3 Blades
Think that would be how we seen to outsiders, some would have 1 and 2 other way round. Only biased Blades would have Sufc any higher.
Hope that helps southern Blade

Only nutcases would class you as bigger than leeds too. Fully agree with you though about it all. Apart from you being better than leeds since they were formed there more successful than you

Do clubs below the 2nd tier even factor into this at the moment?

Nutcases and biased Owls pal, personally would love to see all 3 back in prem, would be great for Yorkshire and the premier league. Realistically can only see us being anywhere near in the near future, but who knows thigs can change very quickly

However in the past 50 years United are the only Sheffield club to average over 30,000, in the 70's and in 2006 (the last time there).
True that, it is also true that Sheffield United have had larger average crowds than Sheffield Wednesday for only 5 years since 1980, that's 5 years out of 36 despite finishing in a higher league position for 12 of those years, and had smaller average crowds for 3 seasons whilst being in a higher division. We can all pick out a stat and make something look different to what it actually is, the fact is Wednesday historically and currently have bigger home support than united, and nearly always have better away support too. Yes your home crowds were good this year (thought you averaged below 20k but don't know, was impressive either way) but ours would have been much higher if paying the same prices and l believe ours will improve significantly next season irrespective of prices.
Sorry rant over now.

3 league titles, an FA Cup and a charity shield, same number of honours as Sheff Utd but both of us won our last trophy in the 20's so it's kinda irrelevant if we're honest.

I agree. Apart from a league cup Wednesdays is the 30s it's a sorry state of affairs the biggest county in the country.

Currently I'd order it like this:

1) Middlesbrough
2) Hull City
3) Sheffield Wednesday
4) Leeds United
5) Huddersfield Town
6) Rotherham United
7) Barnsley
8) Bradford City
9) Sheffield United
10) Halifax Town (won the Trophy, and Darren Ferguson is a giant knobhead, so Donny don't chart)

It's quite simple actually, it's just the order they're in. Otherwise, I'd make a Sheffield and Leeds barm and leave everyon else to it.

I agree with you that trophies won previously have no influence on what's happening now, but think all clubs should still embrace their history. Its what made us what we are today, think in Sheffield in particular we should make a much bigger thing of our footballing history as we were instrumental in giving football to the world.

Agree with all of that apart from number 10 but of course that's a personal thing.

Out of curiosity, if Sheffield FC is the oldest club in the world, why weren't they one of the 12 Football League founding members?

Barnsley should be above Rotherham.

Nu-uh, Championship is higher than League One fam.

Even if the double is impressive.

Off the top of my head, I think it was down to them not adopting the Cambridge Rules (which became standard) and staying amateur. I'm sure someone knows better, they're a curious club.

I believe they're not the oldest club full stop either, but the oldest continuous club not affiliated to anything else (e.g. Cambridge Uni). I quite like the header of Sheffield FC's website though:

''Sheffield FC are the world's oldest football club in the world''

It's a double Clarkson!

thought I'd post this here since a lot of the best Yorkshire teams are in the CH/L1. Looking at current form AND history, what would you say the top three Yorkshire teams are? I don't count Hull or Middlesborough in the slightest. They're not Yorkshire,

1. Sheffield U
2. Leeds
3. SWFC
Fuckinghell you can tell that the school holidays are here at the minute with that post.........
