Still the case. I think it's a six month wait.

It's 4 months now.
I did my first donation last thursday and gthere's nothing to it, i was warned i may feel light headed after but i was fine. I will do it again next time which they said for me will be in October. Had i known just how easy it was i'd have done it years ago, okay i felt a bit tired for 24 hours but that's a small price to pay if my blood can help to save a life.

Regular donor, stopped with the blood donorship to move onto platelet donation, takes a bit longer and can have it done more regular but they had an issue a year or so ago where she'd put the needle in wrong, made a right mess of my arm and I had no grip for a while, they kind of put me off a bit.

I was keen on that though as your donation is usually used within 24 hours and more often than not on cancer patients or luekemia patients.

Didn't know you could be a platelet donor, can you still do both or just one?

I donated plasma years ago - they no longer take that. Because it replaces itself much quicker I could donate every month. I gave that up when I started having children.

Either or, not both. It was something I looked into a few years back, but at the time they weren't accepting female donors. Not sure if that's still the case.

Looked at this last night, according to the blood website, you can donate both, but not within 72 hours of each other, but if you donate whole blood first you have to wait twelve weeks.

I have just made my 117th donation last week, something I got into when I first started work and have done ever since. I'm an uncommon blood group too so I donate more regularly because of that.

I've had a couple of pretty big operations in my time and needed it so it only seems right to keep giving as long as I can, 37 years and counting..

It's actually 3 months for men, I think that's quite a recent change.

I've only given blood once, which is very shit of me. I don't even mind needles.

Just signed back in to the Blood thing online and booked myself an appointment for 3rd August.

A+ Crew represent.

It's great reading this thread. I was worried that you'd think that I was showing off, but the fact that people have booked an appointment having read this thread makes it worthwhile.

For those who can't donate, that's sad, but I wouldn't have been able to if the previous transfusion rules were different. Just spread the word and encourage your friends and family to donate instead.

My mum, myself, my older daughter and her partner all have or do donate. My dad, brother, husband and younger daughter (underweight which annoys her) can't. My son intends to do so when he turns 17 next year.

I've booked one because a friend of mine has heart issues and has been plugging blood donation on facebook. I've felt (rightfully) guilty since.

That went well. Got a text in the morning saying 'thankyou' and 'we look forward to seeing you', drove down and just as I got into the car park got another text saying they're sorry they've had to cancel my appointment. I got 5 minutes notice I suppose! :mell:

Disappointing and unusual for the blood service.

Will you be saying 'Fuck you' though if you need blood? Would you refuse it on principle, assuming at the time of a transfusion you were able to.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Damn them and their increasing inclusivity. I know a gay couple who refuse to get married for the same reason, and a black guy who won't sit at the front of a bus in America.
