We amwee truly awful. Maybe getting ahead of ourselves. Anyway got what we deserved. Nothing. Still expect sutton to be relegated. Boxing day usually serves up one team who enjoyed the 25 too much and today was us

Rotten first half from us and Morecambe more than deserved their lead. We improved a bit in the second half and merited a point but I think we showed today how easy it is to play against this long ball style if you're a half decent side with a game plan.
That was our problem when GA was with us. Once our opponents got to know what our game plan was, we struggled. It took about 5 or 6 games for us to be sussed out.

In our game, we should have put it to bed way before the last gasp winner but looking at some of the mad results today, I'm happy.

Artell was exactly the embarrassment I remember him to be. Could see Grimsby being dragged into a relegation battle with that sort of performance today.

Can’t agree with that, i thought grimsby were decent, especially in the first half hour

Whereas i missed the 2nd as had popped down for a halftime pint, they’d had a great show first half and honestly had they been infront at halftime they’d have been no complaints.

The gulf in the 2nd half wasn’t due to grimsby being shit it’s just one of those halves of where we play like that no-one’s getting anywhere near us.

If we keep Okonkwo after January and sort the discipline out we'll certainly be in the top 3.

Astonishing result for us. Gives us a bit of hope. Bet we messed up several accumulators today.
Yep. You did mine. Predicted the other 4 out of 5, and had all the doubles and trebles, so made a healthy profit.

Entertaining game at VP today, but lacked quality at times. First half we just played hoofball rubbish but improved second half and should have won it when Cook missed a sitter from 6 yards out.

Thought Cook did well to get any sort of direction on the header considering their number 4 had him in a bear hug. Surprised he didn't pin him afterward for the hardcore title.

Maybe not from you, they had 2 shots in the first 20. Other than that they’re imo the worst team to come to us this season

Even though he's on a free in the summer I think we should pay whatever it takes to buy him permanently in January nevermind this loan. I'll be shitting it if we go into the last few days of January with him only on loan and the possibility of a transfer somewhere emerging.

7 clean sheets in the 13 league games he's played.

Don’t get me started on Drysdale, that booking for a supposed dive. I don’t have words for that wanker

Yes it was against shit opposition, yes we were at home but still McGoldrick was worth half the entry fee alone. Some of his touches, thought and play is just sheer class and played a huge part in two of the goals..

I imagine the Dutch national team of the 70s played very similar to how we played today. So fluid.

Big crowd, good vocal support throughout and after the shocker at Harrogate, surprise loss at home to Walsall and no points from Stockport, a much needed 3 points and confidence boost.

Think Morecambe take that mantle personally.

I genuinely thought grimsby did well.

You’re right though morecambe were easily the worst side we’ve seen at field mill this season.

Remarkable that we’ve conceded 5 at home in 10 game home games, when we conceded 2 against stockport and tranmere.

I’m sure Paul Hurst will reflect on his time with us this season, as not one of failure, but almost matching the masters of Total Football at Meadow Lane in that early season classic, the same side that went on to totally dismantled Doncaster Rovers…

Almost being the key word. Fair scoreline, right result and 'almost' the same (bumper) crowd.

Paul Hurst 2023/24 season = Failure and turgid football.

We've managed to drop below Sutton after impressively shipping 4 goals in 24 minutes at Newport. Not the best Boxing Day we've had.
Wrong time of the year to go bottom. Deeney has got a tough job on his hands I think. He doesn't have the advantage of being a fresh face with new ideas to give a lift, he's been part of the problem.

Vital win for us today, confidence can't be high after the last month. Doncaster putting the penalty wide at 0-0 a pivotal moment. Second half Donny ran out of ideas, enthusiasm and legs, very poor and I wouldn't be shocked if they went down but don't think they will.

Dutch team of the 70's eh. Which of your players would you liken to Johan Cruyff?

Talking of total football, I reckon we're a very fluid team too tbf, which is probably why to the untrained eye a lot of our players appear to be out of position most of the time.

Reporter to Lindsey. What do you think of Crawley's performance today?

Lindsey, we we rubbish!

Nice to get an honest answer after a win. Will Wright interviewed after the match said the same thing. I didn't go (I never can make boxing day) so no comment but that's two on the trot where we weren't good so some work needed methinks.

We aint got a pot to piss in so I can't see January helping us out but Santa if your reading we are desperate for some pace and powere in midfield.

What I do find amusing is the number of supporters and Managers who don't appear to know the rules of the game. In particular the offside rule.
For Barrow's 1st goal one of the Stockport defenders went over the goal line after trying to cut out the cross that led to Spence's shot. Under the rules of the game as his own momentum took him off he is deemed to be on the pitch stood on the goal line. Because of that Whitfield only had to be level with the last defender on the pitch to be classed as onside, so being goal side of the goalkeeper was in this case totally irrelevant. Not that Dave Challinor appears to be aware of that particular law.

It has to be McGoldrick yesterday Although you wouldn't be far wrong if you suggested Crowley. Jones playing the role of Rep.

Yesterday was L2 total football. Fluid to the point of wet. We just miss a Neeskens in the middle of the park....oh and a better goalkeeper and defence.

The big crowd certainly got their money's worth yesterday.

I’m not sure that’s correct as you still need to have two players to be goal side of you.

This was the penalty not given, where Chester just needed to tap that in at the far post.

Will Wright scores for Crawley against his old club Gillingham and gets booked for over celebration.

I didn't realise it had been an issue when he left them..

Long way to go.

Casey
There was no bad feeling when Wright left us so no idea why he decided to act like a complete bell end.
Celebrating in front of, and gesturing towards the Rainham End, literally feet away from the home fans.
Unnecessary and twattish behaviour and a deserved yellow card. I’m just glad it didn’t turn nasty as it well could have done.
A very poor game between two sides who looked miles off it.
Crawley deserved the win purely because they actually seemed to give a shit.
Something clearly isn’t right at our place. A few of the Harris signings need to fuck off if they don’t want to put a shift in.
Need a few in in January if we are to salvage anything from a season that is quickly slipping away.

We were really poor first half, bought too much into the zero thinking big boot up to Cook, midfield was non existent and two really soft goals conceded from Morecambe’s first two shots.
Needed a change at half time, could’ve come after ten mins but credit to Alexander that’s twice now after Notts County where he’s made a change and we’ve improved significantly second 45, Osadebe off, a player who ability wise should never play for us again.
Special mention to the worlds biggest piss take Darren Drysdale, corrupt or incompetent or both I can’t work out.

Hmm I’m not too impressed by Artell’s post game interview, so far I’ve liked his honesty in interviews but seems like a bit of shite there, says we should’ve been 4-1 up and whilst we were pretty good first half in patches Mansfield got in great positions just as much as us if not more, one save Cartwright made from about 5 yards out with his face and they had loads of chances from inside 12 yards or so that they scuffed so to say we should’ve been 4-1 up is absolute bollocks in all honesty.
He also said we should’ve had 2 stonewall penalties but no idea what he’s on about there either, I actually thought the referee had a brilliant game one of the best refs we’ve had all season.

He was banging on about them to fans behind the dugout, says your players stayed on their feet for both and had they gone down they’d have been given. I’m struggling to recall any moments, maybe the one where you played the ball into the box on the edge and he teed up someone for the strike that hit the bar

It's you that doesn't know the law unfortunately. He was offside. So was the second but it was much tighter tbf.
