You know how it is, the dipshits always come out for our big games and aren't seen again until the next one. Can't imagine them going up to Burton on a Tuesday night.

Completely mate, that's why I just referred to those that did it. As you know, I defend Millwall fans on here more than most but running on the pitch, straight past the players who have won you promotion and got you to an FA cup 1/4 final to goad the other fans is sad.

Anyway, begrudgingly, congratulations to both you and Jockney.

Went to the game today as I had free tickets in the box.

The Millwall pitch invasion was 'classic Millwall' showing off, but the squaring up to players is just stupid. 3/4 kids went up to Mark Marshall giving it the biggun.

After the game was silly, too. Millwall 'yoof' literally winding up men with their kids knowing that they wouldn't do anything.

I know a few Millwall fans and have a good deal of respect for them wanting to keep it old school and not turn into what a lot of football has become, but some of the things I saw today were a little embarrassing.

In the post match interview Stuart McCall (who is always a classy respectful man) complained that some of the Millwall fans came on to the pitch and ran towards him and his players to gloat. Said he did really well to control himself and not react.

That's the problem with pitch invasions, you're tempting fate as there's ALWAYS A RISK.

Most pitch invasions are fine but losing in a playoff final must be the worse kind of defeat and to see oppostion fans taking the piss gloating shows a total lack of respect, so there's a high chance individual outbreaks of trouble that could then lead to large scale crowd disorder.

Pitch invasions seem to be becoming more common and I'm not sure what the answer is.
In special circumstances then I totally accept why a pitch invasion should happen, still remember the legendary scenes of Ronnie Redfords goal for Hereford against Newscastle in the FA Cup.

If you haven't seen it then YouTube "Ronnie Radford", now that goal deserved a pitch invasion, it's like a scene out of the film "Escape to Victory", even I would have been on the pitch. ha ha.
P

We spend thousands gonna watch our clubs home and away every year if we wanna run on pitch then we will. Simple as that. You've done 1 away game in 10 years

Imagine if that pitch invasion happened against West Ham, Chelsea or Leeds it would have been a full scale riot on the pitch and would have been impossible to contain. At least it would have been more entertaining than the match anyways.

In order for that to happen it's inevitable we'll attract the kind of people you speak of previously. It's a double-edged sword. I love that we haven't abandoned our roots, and that we upset the more sheltered fan bases; but every now and then we have to deal with a few nitwits giving it large. I'll take it.

Not really moaning about the pitch invasion, I just think chavvy lads starting on players is embarrassing.

From what I saw today, the younger lads were just trying to keep the reputation.

On the whole I thought the Millwall fans were very decent. Incredible noise after the goal.

Stopped drinking at half 2 so fecking sobered up. Well done to Millwall 50/50 game although quite poor but neither side could have begrudged the other the win, decent atmosphere at times for new Wembley's standards anyway. Met some decent Millwall lads on the tube bit of banter and they wished us a safe trip home, how it should be.

However for those on here who didn't go to the game defending the pitch invasion you didn't see the full event, mindless idiots running in front of our players faces, and worse our club legend and some moron goading our fans. You may think it's fun and perfectly acceptable to do it, but I immediately thought of Chris Kirkland against Leeds and genuinely did think similar may happen. No sportsman should have to fear for their safety whether we pay their wages or not. I get some grown men and women think it's fun to run onto a piece of grass for a bit attention but I've never seen the point. Anyway it was only a small minority, Millwalls reputation is massively over egged by the media mixed with them before and after the game with no problems and they were quick to point out their hatred of Leeds, take 6 points of them next season please.

Gutted to be in this league another season at least, but we were nowhere near good enough going forward this season as it showed again today. Could be a blessing if we strengthen properly, but hopefully no more playoffs.

Twice we've lost play off finals and twice we've recovered to win the play-offs the next season. We have a thing going with Wigan where they always beat us on our big day out (jpt final, play offs, fa cup semi final) and it's really hard to stomach when it's the same team kicking you in the nads. I think Bradford are a shoe-in for promotion next season and I can't see a way you won't do it with pretty much a clear path in front of you. I would wish you good luck, but I don't think you'll need it. Play that game 10 more times and Bradford win it in five of those.

Cheers mate we'll take that luck if it's all the same, as you say play that 10 times we'd win 5 each also both league games were draws. I thought I might be a bit bitter after losing such a big game, but can't have any complaints and enjoyed a decent day out with no incident from a personal point of view. Just a shame the media don't focus on the wall fans I spoke to today instead of the idiots who probably come out once every couple of seasons for a big match and live off the Millwall reputation.

Forgot to add in my previous post good luck next season, do Leeds for us as a couple of my mates have been unbearable since full time.

Wash your mouth out!

Awwww come on... let's be big about it. After all, 132 years of league football and only 2 seasons in the top flight, getting to the Championship is a big deal for these guys..!! <wink>

For now they celebrate. But our time will come again. Oh yes, our time will come.

Please take my comment above this one with a pinch of salt, mate. It's all banter intended in good fun.

But the point you make is a valid one. Every club has its Goon Squad element. Nobody can point the finger without having to acknowledge their own fans shortcomings.

This time of year always attracts pitch invasions and I'd say they're mostly without malice. If some were taunting Bradford players and fans or worse, "squaring up" as one poster has put it, then these numpties should be put in their place by other Millwall fans. It's up to the good ones to tell these individuals that they're letting the club down. I think that sometimes, the opprobrium of ones peers has the greatest effect.

There are lots of good points on this thread. It's quite an enjoyable read as I scroll down the page. Corporate shmalz such as rock music at the final whistle..? Oh, puh-leaze. Let's not Americanise out sporting events any more, for goodness sake. Millwall remaining "Old School"? Well, there are pluses and minuses to that one, but let's hope the good outweighs the bad.

Good conversation. I like it here.

What about when a pitch invasion ruins the occasion for the hardcore, go everywhere every week type of fan? Because that can happen, after we (Sutton United) played both Leeds and Arsenal in the FA Cup this season there were mass pitch invasions. Especially against Arsenal it was noticeable that those on the pitch were glory hunters trying to get on TV, or take selfies with Alexis Sanchez or goad the Arsenal fans. The real Sutton fans missed out on the chance to thank their team for a fantastic cup run and the team themselves missed out on the chance of well deserved adulation because some people who normally couldn't care less decided that moment was all about them.

Now I can't speak for anyone else really, but by the looks of things some of those on the pitch were there to show off rather than to celebrate Millwall FCs achievement

Thought you were the better side and it basically sums up what I've read on here all season, you just don't take you're chances.

I agree that's why I'm not to bothered about promotion, we would have needed more work than probably possible atm. Need to strengthen and go for autos next season, which I think will stand us in better stead of staying up when promoted. Your lot will be fine but I think Bolton, Millwall and Burton start as huge favourites for relegation although football throws up strange results.

Gutted at what we've missed out on - the potential games next season would've been great, that's before all the money we'll lose out on, away travel income, exposure and all the rest of it.
What annoyed me most is the predictability by which we lost. I wrote on page 1 of this thread about how toothless we were, it's been the story of the season, on our other board I said how Gregory and or Morrison would score at least 1 and therefore we'd need at least 2 which I just couldn't see us doing. When Clarke went through one one one and failed to score, I would've been more sureprised had he actually finished it.
The hope for me before hand was that we'd go for it a bit more and start Alex Jones with Wyke but I think McCall sees Clarke and Nicky Law as a safe pick even though neither have been in half decent form for a long time and we had to wait 70 odd minutes for both to be pulled off. Likewise Wyke recently doesn't even look like shooting never mind scoring - this is a massive part of our side that needs addressing next season.
The lack of goals is what cost us this season, the million draws a few of which into wins and we've had gone up automatically, yesterday was a massive chance but on the day we didn't do what we had to, put the ball in the net, as we've done so often this year.
Well done to Millwall, on the day they beat us fairly and good luck next season. The pitch invasion? Not for me, but that isn't the main issue when outside the ground lads, OAP's, anyone in the wrong place are getting jumped by absolute scum. Of course it's only a certain percent of their support, but Christ, is it all about maintaining this stereotype that they're 'ard, 'no one likes us' bollocks? I can't be doing with it, that'll be some crap bonus next year that at least I won't have to see that again.

Was not impressed with Bradford yesterday. Thought they were a better side than that. Surprised there was a lot of empty seats there end too. To be honest with bigger clubs Pompey and to a lesser extent Plymouth coming up, and Blackburn coming down with a good side Wigan too, I would be surprised if Bradford are knocking on the auto spots next year. I think more likely 6th - 10th for Bradford next year.

You are a complete bellend, I'm sure everyone is over the moon you've joined the forum

Fuck off WUM, go troll another forum. Millwall took 3,500 more than us and are 10 miles away, I have nothing against Portsmouth but if even a minority of fans are like you then I hope this new owner of yours ends up making you into the new Orient. Congrats you got a reaction.

Don't know you took offence. No WUM at all.

With what I said was out of order? It was an opinion.

Many were not impressed with Bradford yesterday or over the 2 legs in the playoffs.
Given your home crowds, even with the cheap tickets you sell, I thought you would sell your allocation out at Wembley
With the teams in the division next season, is my prediction for you between 6th and 10th out of the equation?

You didn't even sell out the fa cup semi against spurs so pipe it down with that shit

Yes we did. Spurs had 3,000 left unsold and we got them with a day or so left. If you look at the top tier we were further along so had more.

Please be accurate with your facts. We had 75k who applied for fa cup final tickets and 250,000 on Southsea Common for the parade.
Fake news.

Don't let one game cloud your overall perception of our team.

We'll be up their challenging again next season - and we'll only build on a strong squad that we already have. I imagine we'll also go for it financially given the new owners now know what to expect. Having spent £3.5m in wages, and just under £400k in transfer fees, I'll be surprised if we don't surpass both figures respectively next season.

In terms of the game, we simply didn't turn up. Millwall weren't any better, they just wanted it more.

Wilsden, how is every comment I've made so far false? What out of I said above is false? If you don't like my opinion that you won't be in contention for the top 2 next season, then I feel sorry for you that you take offence so easily.
Couldn't careless where you think we'll end, more implying we're a small club and how you keep talking Shit about how big Portsmouth are. You think you're going to walk the league, I'm afraid you'll be in for a shock. And no chance you had 250,000 there for a parade, Portsmouth has a population of 200,000 and I bet there wasn't a tenth of that there. I have respect for Portsmouth as they stood by their club whilst in league 2 but don't come on here winding up giving it big time.

Message to other Portsmouth fans, do you share this guys views?

Can't wait for Portsmouth to get slaughtered on opening day. IF this new investment is allowed then I can understand where this confidence could be coming from. The trust is still in charge and they've even said they wouldn't be able to compete at the top of league 1. Having looked at Pompey's squad at the moment it looks like a middle of the table team tbh.
