Don't post much in here these days, but came to my attention Braintree are having some issues with the council over their ground (land being used for housing developments etc.).

Would be sad to see a Non-League club go, even if Braintree away doesn't conjure many good memories for most of us!

https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/help-save-braintree-town-fc?source=twitter-share-button - Petition is here, hope whats left of the TFF non-league section can do their bit :)

Nothing like a good petition with clear aims...

Is the petition about relocating the club or about preventing the development infringing on their current existence?

Do they just want to protect just the away turnstile access, or do they want to protect their training grounds etc? Or are they trying to use all this as a bargaining chip for a new place?

Signed. Shocking to see how far Braintree have fallen. From riding high in the Conference just a couple of years ago, finishing 3rd and qualifying for the play offs to fighting for their very existence

We have been negotiating with the local authority for several years to re locate our ground and at one stage we even had plans in stage for a community stadium with their support. However this plan was rescinded by the council, and we had to take legal action to secure the lease on the training ground and part of the car park they own. We have now reached the stage where it appears they have washed their hands of the football club and although we own the ground there is a covenant that we must give them a large percentage of the proceeds of any sale. Without that the land value for housing would enable us to build a new stadium of our own within the district. PLEASE sign the petition to help us with our case to manage our Club to survive in the future. THANK YOU in anticipation of your support.
Thank you Gashead for bringing this to everyones attention.

From a fan of a club that crashed and burned from overspending. .
I know, right? You'd think people would have learned something from that wouldn't you? Ten years on and it's still going on, unbelievable Jeff. :bdick:

And what's this "can't believe how far they've fallen"?!!
In my book going from the Conference Play offs to being tipped for relegation while fighting for their future in just a couple of years represents quite a sharp fall in a short period of time do you not think?

You seem to forget that they were managed by Lord Cowley so that would mean they were on course for the Championship MINIMUM.

Signed. Good luck lads.

Hold my beer.

Conference and FA Trophy winners to playing in Step 5 ten years later. I reckon we've got the hard luck tale won.

Can you address any of my concerns about what this petition is actually trying to achieve? What is it trying to get the council to do? What is the specific outcome Braintree want/need?

I hope Braintree manage to get a fair and suitable solution of some kind.
