Lets see if we can build on a decent opening day performance then, despite the disappointment of losing McGoldrick once again, and being underwhelmed by his signed replacement... the return of Luke Varney.

Hopefully we'll still have enough to win this, but I'd take a draw. 1-1

Would quite like to see Brentford go down this season. They have some of the most blinkered fans I've ever known, many of which are still screaming bloody murder about Hyam's hard tackle (but definitely not a red) on Judge last season. Some of the comments they've made are bordering on the retarded, bless 'em.

And I thought you were a decent poster, fuck me mate that's one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen on this forum. Trying being less of a dick next time.

My favourite is the one calling us 'temporarily famous'! One guy on TWTD has got it right and i think the thread name should be changed to what he called them:
Permanently Irrelevant v Temporarily Famous

On a serious note, I really am shocked by the Brentford fans! Ok straight after the game I can understand it but months down the line and hoping to get 'one back' on us :dk:

We'll see how tomorrow goes! I'm quite confident to be honest!

It was a tackle which has had serious ramifications for club and player alike. Alan Judge missed out on his Premier League £30,000 a week move which would have sorted his family out for life. We missed out on £4m-£6m in transfer fees which could have seen as have a decent crack at the transfer window. Instead, Judge won't likely feature fully until 2017 and will then leave on a free after a few months, and we've struggled to make a dent in the transfer market - we've had one single day of long term contract transfer activity in the whole window to date.

Whether it was a red card is another argument for another day, and not one I can be particularly bothered to partake in, but the tackle has been a turning point in the career of a fellow professional and utterly screwed us transfer-wise. I'm sure, as worldly and intelligent football fans, you'd have realised that... and should be able to understand why our fans and players are fairly peeved. It wouldn't be like you guys to be small-minded now, would it?

Regardless of the ramifications, football is a physical sport! Injuries happen and Brentford FC are not the first, and will certainly not be the last, to experience such hugely unfortunate injuries!

We lost Jonny Williams to a worse tackle a few years ago (no break however) from Watford player Ekstrand! He made no attempt to get the ball (unlike Hyam) and was then applauded and high fived by his team mates! We played them at their place and Ekstrand had an unfortunate self inflicted injury, Town fans applauded him off the pitch. There's your difference.

Yes, it was a bad tackle and the outcome was terrible for Judge. It would be great if people never got injured, whatever the cause, but unfortunately it's an occupational hazard of professional sport. The anger at the time was somewhat understandable, but now it comes across as bitter and petty (certainly some of the comments in the article TB posted are).

TWTD is a quality resource to be fair, we're quite spoilt, trolls aside.

We are very spoilt :cool1: he does one for every league game and I think cup games too!
I'm quite bad, I always skim down to how the other club views Ipswich :animatedf:

Good win. Shakey first 15 minutes but the we settled into it well. Two good goals, would have been nicer to work Bart more, as he's always been a wobbly keeper at Griffin Park. Thought we moved it well and our front four looked very fluid, and defensively exceptionally sound.

I hate to say this - as it'll look like I'm being snide - but Ipswich are such a clogger team. Long ball, direct and very little passing. They're good at it though and it'll win a fair few games, as it has over the past couple of season, but I think we set up very well against such styles. Good luck for the rest of the season :)

Sounds like we really struggled to create anything going forward, which is a bit of a worry for the season ahead. Conceding two goals from set pieces is always disappointing too, but the impression I get is that Brentford deserved the win.

We certainly didn't deserve anything.
Defensively, the two goals were poor whilst at the same time, the first one was a cracking header! I've been waiting for Mick to sort the defense out since January 2015, but still Berra plays week in week out and Chambers is at right back :hb:!

I'd be more than happy for the two youngsters, Emmanuel and Kenlock to come in at full back positions and Smith to partner Webster at the centre. A back four that can build together and have plenty years ahead with Bart behind (who has said this week he'd love to play for us for the rest of his career).

From what I saw, I think Ipswich can consider themselves a little unlucky. We didn't test Bialkowski till after we were already leading. You didn't create a huge amount going forward, but there were a few shots / headers just wide after we were 2-0 up, easily could have been very different.

Ipswich always play the same way, very physical, lots of long balls, and normally incredibly effective against us. I thought Egan was immense defensively today, won every header that came his way. Front four looked quite good, need a bit more pace about them and a bit more support. Macleod looks brilliant, Sawyers puts some great passes together, Hogan will put chances away. We'll have some tough times, 12-15 is where we'll end up but there's a lot of promise for the future. Very young team.

Really? They were very very poor after the first 20 minutes - would have been a travesty if the game ended as a draw. Didn't offer anything at all in the second half, was expecting more to be honest but I'm sure they'll do well this season.

They had Berra's header, Ward's volley, both incredibly close to going in, and only lost to 2 set pieces. I know if I was on the other foot I'd be annoyed.

I'd be annoyed if it wasn't so predictable! We're supposedly good from set pieces but rarely score from them and have conceded 3 of our 4 so far from set pieces..

Just seen the result, great stuff. Good to get a win early on. Egan is looking like being a cracking signing.

Can't comment on the game, didn't go nor listen, but echoing the above it's frustrating to hear we conceded to two set pieces.
