To be fair, the picture in the Evening Standard shows that Brentford have already started work on the pitch.

We shouldn't be made to play tin-pot clubs anyway...

Should just award us the 3 points and be done with it.

They did. They relaid the pitch after doing some drainage work, but for some reason the grass they've laid has gone to ratshit. Huge divots appearing, big chunks coming loose. I'm sure a Brentford fan can explain in more detail, but it sounds like the contractor who did the relay job screwed up big time and Brentford are paying the price for this screw up. Doesn't sound like it's the clubs fault.

Hopefully the pitch will be relayed and bed in before we play them on the 29th August.

Yeah, it's not very fair on Birmingham City fans, completely agree with that. However, the pitch poses massive injury risks to both sets of players. Due to the play-offs we had to delay relaying the pitch by 2-3 weeks. Then there were a couple of corporate events on the pitch, we we've all pretty much agreed were a terrible idea.

The pitch was relaid due to installing a new drainage system. The draining at Griffin Park has always been terrible - I seem to remember this being because we're so close to the river that the water table is incredibly high, and nothing drains away. We tried to avoid having any home friendlies in order to let the turf knit, but the night before our Stoke friendly we had seven weeks worth of rain fall. The drainage system seemed to work fine, but the pitch hadn't properly developed by that point and was summarily torn apart. At the moment it's a mixture of grass an inch too long and sand underneath - it's already caused Bjelland an injury, and offered a genuine risk to both home and away players whilst it was still in that condition. Given that a great deal of destructive knee and ankle injuries result in players getting their studs caught in the pitch, then I'd say the pitch's current condition had the potential to be career-ending!

Your club will have insurance. And use some of the profits from the corporate events to compensate Birmingham City fans who have paid for advance train tickets, accommodation bookings, etc. Simple. :2thumb:

Fair enough lads, wasn't aware a re-lay had already taken place in the summer. If it's in a dangerous state at the moment then that's fair enough, I just thought the manager wasn't happy with the bounce or something.

Compensation to those who have pre-paid on train tickets?

Everybody knows now that us deprived Midlanders travel to away matches by horse and cart.

Already taken it's first serious victim of reports from Denmark are true. Record signing and Danish international centre back Bjelland is out for 8-10 months due to an injury he sustained in clearing the ball against Oxford on Tuesday... :(

Everything that could possibly go wrong seems to be doing so. Odubajo going the day before the season starting due to a release clause, Gray unavailable due to being unsettled by Hull's interest, McEachran breaking his foot at the end of preseason, million pound signing MacLeod still not making his debut after signing in January (believe it or not he stepped into a rabbit hole at the training ground and completely bollocksed up a niggling hamstring injury :ffs:), Hogan re-doing his ACL weeks before returning from preseason after spending the last year out, now the pitch having to be relaid after two games and ruling our vital cente back out for the season, etc. etc.

I'm sure I left that violin somewhere round here...

Always awful for a player when he's out for so long, but worse when it's the pitch that caused it.

You guys did know that Warburton was seen down at Mystic Mary's caravan asking for a curse about something, don't you? No idea what the curse was for, mind.

I wonder if they'll look at all the stats before deciding what grass to use.

Fair play to Brentford for that.

Great by the club to refund any fans caught with travel and ticket expenses they can't get out of, can't complain with relaying the pitch after the complete mess it's turned into.

I wonder if after looking at all the stats we'll have a more forward thinking club than most in this division, (the answer will probably be yes).

Brentford should be fined for it IMO, if they've had to piss about rearranging a fixture because of it.

Feel free to fine us, it'll just get passed on to our contractors. Entirely their fault unfortunately.

The Club supervise, adminster and control all aspects of the business.
The salient point, to me, is that they received such a FAVOURABLE and SYMPATHETIC BLESSING from the authorities !
Didn't help that Blues ~~(at this point} ~~ wouldn't disagree or say boo-to-a-goose ~~raise a finger let alone a hand~~ as a question.
Fair Play to Brentford~~~ they got away with it~~~ Why ? and How?~~~ PR skills I'd think.

Shame that 12,312 Away supporters have now claimed compensation...brummies always stay at The Savoy when darn souf.
