Having consigned Chesterfield, Barnet and Yeovil to non-league football in the past week, we now have the opportunity to seal Grimsby's fate. At least though they'll know the name of the stadium they're visiting as unlike most away fans, they won't get it confused with Blundell Park (although some fans have been known to get us confused with Burnden Park so we shall see).

Grimsby may or may not be managerless by the weekend, it seems to have gone quiet on the Sol Campbell front, I'm curious to see what Sol Campbell thinks is the real reason he didn't get the job given Grimsby have only recently been managed by Marcus Bignot.

Having won three in a row there'll probably be some pressure on us from the fans now and almost certainly an improvement on the last couple of piss-poor home attendances. We've kind of been fortunate in how the fixtures have lined up for us, and probably playing better given the lack of pressure having resigned ourselves to mid-table mediocrity, and we're still well outside the playoff places and have been inconsistent all season, so this is still a must-win if we're to have any chance of making a play-off push. If we beat Grimsby and then manage to defeat Exeter the week after then perhaps you could finally say we are chasing promotion but until then, no.

This won’t be on. The pitch may well be playable but I doubt grimsby will be able to travel.

Hopefully they make a decision today

Would benefit us if it's off since Honest John has decided to take his sweet time in finding a manager. Not like we're plummeting at an insanely fast rate. If it's on it could be a cricket score as our players don't have the bollocks to play in these conditions.

Well the pitch has passed inspection, so if Grimsby really don't want to play this game they need to claim they can't get across... don't know if they can do that or if someone else has to decide that it's not possible for them to get here.

Not surprised in fairness, GTFC fans will have a nightmare getting to that as will the players. With Police advise for Cumbria and the M62 closed I can understand their feelings on it.

Judging by what I've read about the main roads from Grimsby to Carlisle being closed I'd expect sub 50 away fans should the game actually go ahead, should be a quality atmosphere. :bg:

They're making it out to be our fault though for daring to look after our own stadium. Heard they had a burst water pipe at theirs perhaps they were hinting they'd like us to do the same.

No issue with that but the clubs and EFL should come to a common sense agreement on it which doesnt seem to be happening.

Well if Grimsby are happy for the game to go ahead, which they seem to be despite the objections of their fans than we aren't going to stand in their way. If their fans want to direct their anger at someone for this then they should direct it at their own board for not insisting the match be postponed. But they seem to be directing their anger towards CUFC instead with one even invoking memories of the Munich air disaster.

Grimsby should hire a couple of these. Sorted.

Clubs have to do everything possible to get the pitch playable, as far as EFL are concerned. Then it’s up to others to decide if the match should go ahead for travel reasons etc. So CUFC have done what they’ve had to do.

I still think the police or whoever decides will call it off for safety reasons or due to Grimsby not being able to get here.

The latest police update, in response to the twitter conversation about the game is that roads are passable with care. I understand the frustration of the Grimsby fans but a lot of them are going a bit OTT in their criticism. According to someone who describes himself as the chair of the mariners' trust. Football died a little today.

I'm sure their opinion of us would be very different if we didn't make an effort to get the pitch playable and it was called off, and then the snow thawed a bit so travelling wasn't an issue. Then they'd be up in arms about how they have to travel to Carlisle on a Tuesday night and will have a fixture pile-up at the worst possible time all because we couldn't be bothered clearing a bit of snow. I remember we were pretty annoyed with Stevenage a few years back when a game was called off because they didn't properly cover their pitch.

What if a fan slips over and injures themselves outside the ground though, wouldn't the club be liable if they've attempted to clear snow etc?

Only if no attempt has been made to make it safe (I looked it up) and we've been working on clearing the stadium 'footprint' for the last three days.

Apparently the EFL will only make a decision if the clubs disagree on whether they want it to go ahead, which doesn't appear to be the case so GTFC must have said they wanted it to go ahead and of course we'll have replied 'absolutely, let's do it'.

I think a lot of the Grimsby fans on social media are getting a little confused. They seem to think it’s down to Carlisle United to decide whether the match is on or off.

The referee makes a decision on the pitch. The football league and police make a decision on other factors such as safety and travel conditions.

Carlisle United FC can’t just turn round and say “ah you know what, forget about clearing the snow, let’s all have Saturday off”

I have stopped reading The Fishy because there are so many knobs on it, seems like some of them have Twitter Accounts too.

Some of the them are people who you think would know better, one of them says he is a commentator on GTFC while another is the ex chair of the Mariners Trust and qualified referee.

Oh no a fanbase of benefit chavs with 10 kids are angry at us for busting our balls to get the match on.

What a load of crap these Grimsby fans are talking, I'd be embarrassed if that was us.

They’d get up, brush themselves off and then thump anyone who dared to laugh.

Different breed up here, pal.

Karma for Grimsby for when they made us travel 250 miles when most of us couldn't get out of our drives. I think we took 20 that day..

To be honest, as a Grimsby fan, I don't think we can really complain about Carlisle wanting the game to be played.

Just go back to the season we were relegated (or it may have been the season before) when the whole country was snowed in and similar advice was given about not to travel and we played Exeter!

Not many Exeter fans made it that day (about 60 or 70 I think), whereas they'd have brought 3 or 4 hundred normally as they were near the top of the league and got promoted that season.

I'm hearing the M62 is now open so crisis averted. Should be a nice pleasant trip up for the Grimsby fans.

You know what's gonna happen now after all this don't you.

We'll get friggin beat.
