Just thought I'd post this as its a fairly unique occurrence, has your club ever done this?

Nice one. We had a game abandoned three years ago against Port Vale and the rescheduled game was free for anyone who went to the original game. We then charged £10 for adults and £5 for all concessions I believe. Seems a bit crazy to have EVERYONE free though imo. Doubt you'll fill the ground but without tickets who knows how many will turn up, surprised the Police were on board!

I'll be popping my head in if it's completely free, it's only a short train and tram away from me

Completely free for everyone?

Sod it, it's only a tram ride away, I may get in on this too.

Rochdale play at home on the same night so the problem of their fans going into the away causing trouble is gone.

I'd like to think we can get 6k

What's your usual home crowd? I can see quite a lot of people going down if it gets decent publicity in the area. I wouldn't be one to pass up watching a match completely free as i'm sure a lot of others won't.

Tranmere's game against Mansfield in 2003 was abandoned when one of the local village idiots decided to climb onto the cowshed roof and refused to come down. Free admission was put on for the replay which doubled the original attendance.

Either we'll get beat or the club won't be able to handle the amount of people trying to get in.

I went to both, how sad.

Ive now a good mate in Manchester who lived in Neston or somewhere who also went to the game as tranmere were his local side, odd day.

Surely that's a good thing in a way!

Would be quite annoying if (we won't) got 10k... I mean where are these people normally who arent willing to fork out a tenner?

You've said that twice now.

The quote thing buggered up, imagining using this on a bloody iPhone 4. I Wouldn't be surprised if a bloody pigeon attacked me each time a got a message.

I believe it has actually happened to us twice recently. That Mansfield game was the first, but there was also a game against Notts County that was farcically started on a swimming pool that inevitably was abandoned with a good 3 inches of surface water on the pitch. The replay was free and we got about 14k for the game IIRC.

Hopefully season ticket holders will realise the old stroll in five minutes before kick off rule will go out the window. I'll be there earlier than normal to avoid all that if there is a mass influx of people.

Truth be told there probably won't be much riding on this game and f there was we still wouldn't fill the place. Head says 6,500 - 7,000 tops.

So we're gonna get a few people hopping for the day? Sounds massive and I can't wait. Hoping for a balmy evening and even the Cemmy End packed.

Am I missing owt? Automatic promotion still a possible depending how the final eight games go.

It does seem a weird way to do this though, seems like making the game free is rewarding Bury fans much more than the Southend ones. Obviously it's free for Southend fans too but they still have to pay for all of the travel costs which are probably much more substantial. They've lost a whole Saturday travelling whereas most Bury fans just had to make the short journey home, and yet they're all having the costs of the rematch equally subsidised.

Well what else do you expect us to do?? Pay for every Southend fans travel, hotel and food??

I'm sure Southend would've done the same to us...

Maybe slightly lower the price of tickets but heavily subsidise the Southend travel for those who bought a ticket to the original game? They're the ones who suffered the most from the postponement after all. You're sacrificing say 3,500 tickets worth £15 each by making it free, so £50,000 or so. You could've charged a bit still for the tickets, even just £5 each, that makes £17,500, split that between the 350 Southend fans who made the journey for the original game and that's £50 each towards the wasted cost and time of travelling.
