Another bogey team of ours (most were last season mind) but we finally had no midweek game which will hopefully help with resting certain players who have played a lot of football the first few weeks.

Roles and Lamb on international duty but we are well covered in the middle of the park now Carruthers has signed. FGR seem to be missing Collins and Mills which is good news.

Both teams seem to be keeping it tight. I'm going for 1-1.

Along with Mills and Collins, we're also missing Ebou Adams, who's away on international duty, plus our keeper Joe Wollacott is suspended after last weeks clusterfuck. Liam Shepherd might make the bench.

We tried an unusual experiment in midweek and actually had a few shots, hopefully none of that nonsense tomorrow. Another solid boring 1-0 with lots of possession would be fine with me.

We're very poor when put under pressure, if any side goes for the high press we can't deal with it. We can't keep possession for two seconds under those circumstances. So depending how Cambridge line-up depends on our chances. None the less were in with a chance away from home, so I still fancy a smash grab!

Smith and Richards at the top again. Haven't been convinced by the partnership so far but still early days.

Well, second best in everything bar the scoreline there bar a couple of spells, though after the pen save I kind of knew we'd win it, and came off a fine debut from the young Celtic loanee Aitchison. Took a great goal, good work after that and hit the post later after some really strong work. Goal understandably seemed to knock stuffing out of Us and even with the added time didn't have their earlier threat.

Thought your lad Taft looked quality and Carruthers was a bit hit and miss, great moments peppered with howlers as is your lower league way. Ibre (sp?) who came on late looked a handful too, commentators seemed to suggest he's not long back from injury.

Same old, an away smash and grab job, hard to bare for the home team, especially having got plenty of shots off. Cooper squeezing every once of juice out of these boys for maximum return. Some achievement.

Football is basically shit these days. We weren’t great but we never deserved to lose that.

We started OK but you were then well on top for most of first half the carried on in that vein until the goal, much the better chances but TBF rarely tested keeper. Hitting bar and missed pen obviously a bit gutting.

Yep, you and the 3700 U's fans at the ground and those watching on their laptops.

Congrats on the win. I've got a lot of time for Rovers so at least I can tell myself it could've been worse. Like losing at home to fcuking Oldham for instance, or that shite away em 'performance' at Vale the other week.

It's all so very predictable, the same as it was last season under Dunne. U's fans might disagree (and they probably will) but afaic it's just the same old same old.

Dunne's been gone quite a while now so I'm not defending him as it would be a futile exercise now, but there were quite a few games last year while he was still here, when we did everything but score, and then inevitably get hit by a sucker punch. Only thing that's different is that Joe only had Jabo and that useless waste of space Azeez up top, while Calderwood has five (5!!!) strikers to call upon. So please excuse me if I'm not sold on Calderwood just yet.

We still can't score and we're still giving away cheap goals.

Rant over. I'm off to listen to some music.

I thought I was a good game of football, fg started well but didn’t really create anything and we slowly got into it, missed a couple of chances but I was happy enough with a 0-0 at ht.

2nd half I thought we upped it a little and on most other days we’d have won the game, unlucky with hannants shot, Lewis header cleared off the line(good defending) and I’ve seen far worse pens than Richards which was a good save.
Unfortunately there’s just this little bit of naivety in our defence which is costing us at the minute, darling really should do better for their goal but it was a good finish tbf once he got in the position to shot, thought he looked really sharp unlike our very own Dallas.

As for us, we’re on a bad run but I still feel there’s so much positivity in this side and those saying it’s same as last season really need a new set of glasses, under Derry we was the most boring, mundane side and under dunne we was just to erratic, calderwood has definitely got us more stable and also playing better football.

I’m confident better results will come.

One of the FGR fans became seriously ill before the game. The response by Cambridge was immediate and all FGR fans appreciate that.
I believe it saved his life although he was taken unconscious to hospital.
Cambridge fans were also very respectful when our captain went crashing into a goal upright support and needed treatment for many minutes. That was also noted and appreciated.
One of our fans at game expressed it far better than I can and it would be well worth Cambridge having a look at his post.

Thank you Cambridge

I was right with you Arbs until you mentioned the need for new glasses.

I agree that the performances on the whole are better, but I also keep in mind that we're only seven league games in. Col U could've been at least 3 nil by HT if they were any decent, we struggled at home to a very poor Scunny side (and they were playing with 10 men), mediocre in the Oldham home defeat and simply awful at Vale. That's 3.5 games or 50% games of the games we've had so far.

So, while performances look to have improved, results are what ultimately matter in any sport, and I expect a whole lot more from this side because Calderwood, unlike his predecessor, has been fully backed by the board.
