Unbeaten in five games with Legge and Halliday returning from suspension should improve us. A good point at Blackpool which will hopefully kick us on to get 3 points Saturday.

Grimsby have had a good start to the season so it won't be easy at all. I see they've sold 700 so far so it should make for a good atmosphere.

2-1 to the U's.

I'd planned on doing this one before the fixtures came out but it just so happens to be on my sons 10th birthday so its footgolf in Grimsby with a load of kids instead. :bl:

Had to miss the Hartlepool game 2 weeks ago as well as it was my daughters birthday and we lost 3 - 0 so maybe it's a sign telling me not to go!

Feckin replacement bus service from Ely...
Going to drive instead - perhaps via a BBQ at the Red Lion in Histon...which is a Mariner hotbed...

We've sold 800 tickets up to now and apparently Cambridge say that they will be selling away tickets on the day so that could persuade a few extra to go. Possibly looking at another 4 figure away following.

when I heard the allocation of 1400 I thought we'd sell out. Easy journey for me from Melton Mowbray but actually a bit of bitch of a near 6 hour round trip from NE Lincs even though only 120 miles or so via the A16. Also easy for London Mariners though so hopefully pay on the day will boost to 1,000. I've never seen us get anything from Cambridge - my first visit was a 5-1 defeat in 1981 hitched there and got a lift back on a Gy coach up the A1 to my old dears place in Stamford. I also hitched to Millwall, Cardiff and Portsmouth as a skint student in the early 80s and got lifts back. Hitch-hikers are extinct now...

Thanks for the tip - my local (relatively) and I have to come on here to discover BBQ opportunities.

Not only a BBQ but also

They seem a game bunch. http://www.redlion-histon.com/2016_2017.html I'll be looking round the Fitzwilliam before kick off so unfortunately won't make it there for a pint (heard about the landlord giving Town fans a free pint when we played Histon a few years ago). Also thought we'd probably sell out for this one but I guess with Plymouth, Yeovil, Crawley all to come in the next month or so, some people might be saving their pennies for a longer journey.

We can't score from open play and Norris would save any penalty so I think we'll lose this one.

With legge and Halliday back I'm rather hoping for a win, I'll go with svh for a 2-1 win.

Always enjoy home games against Grimsby, one of the few really good vocal supports that I've seen rock up at the Abbey in the last decade, and they've done it pretty much every time too.

No idea what to expect, so I'll go for another draw, which is fine if we follow it up with a win at Exeter the week after. 1-1.

Uche must be close to ready for a start but he's been so effective as an impact sub and we really need to do some thing to stay on the front foot and relieve pressure in the last 20 minutes. So:

Norris
Halliday, Legge, Roberts, Taylor
Berry, Dunne
Mingoia, McGurk, Dunk
Williams

Hell of a bench finally: Gregory, Coulson, Clarke, Newton, Gosling/Elito, Ikpeazu

Plenty of happy and stirring memories from our recent trips to Cleethorpes but less so for the home matches (2 of the last 3 were Tuesday nights) - but GY probably have among the best away support (quality combined with quantity) in the L1 and L2, so it's definitely a Saturday 3 p.m. to look forward to. Hoping for a tight 2-1 at best but 1-1 or 2-2 seems more likely.

Should be a packed and noisy Abbey. Tempted by the Histon Mariners BBQ and some decent ale to get in the mood as early as possible.

I assume it's a case of more the merrier at the BBQ with a mix of GY and Cam fans. I note the use of GY btw, sadly Cambridge United, like Scunthorpe United, are just too tinpot to have a trawler named after the club.

As the Red Lion is on the GY side of Cambridge it would make sense to organise some transport from the Red Lion - no point in everyone driving in separately...even if it's just a car share job...

Happy to join in a car share, ie offer a lift or two, if it works out.

Fair point about the Trawlers - we may not have a Cambridge United or an Abbey United to match your GY81 but Cambridge was GY280 and you wouldn't want to mess with Grimsby's FY142 Her Majesty's Trawler Cambridgeshire (had an interesting war) or the various versions of HMS Cambridge (5 ships and a gunnery school).

I'll be making this one although I really hope I won't have to suffer throughout the whole 90 mins. No, I'm not referring to Derry's system of all-too-cautious footy, but rather this pain in my thigh which has been bothering me for 5 days now. My GP told me it's only a strain in my adductor longus (I only remembered the word because it's quite simple = long + us ;)) but I do have to take it easy for a couple of weeks.

As for the game itself, I think we can sneak this one, most likely by a one goal margin, 2-1 or something. I reckon it's important we do get the three points as I'm not expecting us to win at Exeter even though they're not having a good season so far. See, I fully believe this bogey side business as that's the only reason I can come up with for those sides we never seem to beat. It's not only that we don't get anything out of these matches but our performances against these bogey sides are nearly always unacceptable.

Still, whatever the result of this match is, it's a game that I always look forward to. Grimsby's away support was without a doubt the best in the connie, and, from what I've heard, it's probably the best in this league too. Should be a good atmosphere then, and some decent entertainment too. Safe travels Gy fans!

That would be good - need local knowledge for parking...got a feckin parking ticket after arriving rather late at Derby for parking on the grass verge near Pride Park - was just copying others which I put in my (failed) appeal - should have checked the number plates of the cars on the verge they were probably all from NE Lincs and also ticketed...

For those who want street parking (and aren't drinking), try Wadloes Road off Newmarket Road. If you're coming from Grimsby, come off the A14 at the Fen Ditton junction. Traffic has been a bit more mental recently but that's where I normally park.

Looking forward to this one. Tails are up after the last 4 league games and we're playing a side with a decent following on a Saturday afternoon (finally - we normally play them midweek).

I fancy it, 1-0 U's.

1 - 0 away win it's like being back in the Conference!
4 clean sheets out of 5 now as well since Danny Collins came into the side which says it all, and sounds like last 2 games Zak Mills has been class, very promising, UTM. :)

We were terrible and Grimsby didn't have to do a lot to beat us. That said we did miss 3 absolute sitters, no idea how we didn't actually score one of them. But aside from that we didn't deserve anything really.

Still worried about our lack of goals. Happens every season. Score and concede loads in the first few games, defence tightens, goal threat dries up. Not so bothered about it this season as we don't exactly need wins.

What do you mean we don't need wins?!

The signing of Collins has clearly made a lot of difference, looks a cracking move. Delighted with how it's going this season.

Last year, we needed to wins to try for the title/playoffs or even reach the top 5. This year, there isn't that pressure and we can afford to have more draws instead of wins as overall.

Good performance and worth the three points. Cam especially poor in the first half. Thought Zak Mills did really well. Although Summerfield isn't a favourite with me he did really well breaking up their play in the. Berrett has found a niche for us - just behind the front two. I liked our shape better today with Zak providing some width on the right.

Can I have rant - the policing in Histon was ridiculously over the top. I drove into the village thinking there had been a triple murder not a good natured group of Town fans of all ages have a few pre-match drinks and hot dogs in the Red Lion. What a waste of taxpayers money...

Agree. When I drove in the village, I assumed something had kicked off and considered driving on to The Railway Vue. I stopped anyway (pre-match - wasn't tempted post-match after that showing) U's fans were thin on the ground but everything was calm and a great atmosphere. As usual, the landlord did an excellent job.

I don't think we played significantly worse than we have the last 4 unbeaten league matches - just the opposition was better, our finishing terrible as usual (McGurk's finishing in particular but Dunne was also at fault) and we had less luck/better opposition with our set pieces. Oh and throwing on Piggot for the last 20 minutes is a bit less intimidating and effective than Uche.

We're bottom 6 material, at best, at the moment.

If we're going to depend on team spirit for our points up to January, it's going to be stretched pretty thin if/when we go on another winless run. Without a fit Corr, Ikpeazu or similar, we're probably as likely to pick up points away as at the Abbey - at least that's what I'm telling myself as I consider the trek to St James Park. Currently seeking less masochistic alternatives.
