Agree. When I drove in the village, I assumed something had kicked off and considered driving on to The Railway Vue. I stopped anyway (pre-match - wasn't tempted post-match after that showing) U's fans were thin on the ground but everything was calm and a great atmosphere. As usual, the landlord did an excellent job.

I don't think we played significantly worse than we have the last 4 unbeaten league matches - just the opposition was better, our finishing terrible as usual (McGurk's finishing in particular but Dunne was also at fault) and we had less luck/better opposition with our set pieces. Oh and throwing on Piggot for the last 20 minutes is a bit less intimidating and effective than Uche.

We're bottom 6 material, at best, at the moment.

If we're going to depend on team spirit for our points up to January, it's going to be stretched pretty thin if/when we go on another winless run. Without a fit Corr, Ikpeazu or similar, we're probably as likely to pick up points away as at the Abbey - at least that's what I'm telling myself as I consider the trek to St James Park. Currently seeking less masochistic alternatives.

Superb - taxis laid on to take us to the Abbey as well. I'm sure there was great party afterwards - wish I could have stayed. Please don't get relegated - this fixture will be on my priority list from now on. Next time though I should bring a Brompton to get back to Histon, Traffic is feckin gridlocked. I'd booked a tax to take a few of us back - was 30 mins late. Doesn't really matter when you've won, wouldn't be fun after a 4-0 thumping...

Has anyone have any footage of Cambridge hitting the post just before half time as said in the match reports as I've now seen 3 lots of highlights, sky sports, Channel 5 and our own highlights on twitter and they all show some other chances but not this one bizarrely.

Yeah it's bizarrely missing from the match highlights. More interesting was what came soon after - after Berry hit the post, James Dunne tried to follow up but missed the ball completely :ffs:

My memory (confirmed when I checked Andrew Bennett's report) was a Dunk header from a Mingoia cross.

Loved Andrew's perfect capture of our playing style - Tantric Football

"A minute later United, playing Tantric football which was all teasing build-up and no finish, finally managed a shot on goal when Berry let fly from 25 yards, only to see it blocked before it even reached the penalty area. It looked like being a barren first half for the hosts, who had been mostly outplayed for long periods, but they came agonisingly close to an equaliser with almost the last kick of the 45 when Mingoia crossed for Dunk to rise and head against the post at the back stick, and after it rebounded into the box, Dunne somehow contrived to miss his kick completely on the follow-up."

Yep definitely Dunk with the header against the post, the Dunne's pathetic miss kick.

Our match report had slightly less depth to it:

I've seen worse. It gets the flavour if not a basis for stattos.

I think Andrew does the best match reports in the world. Needs a nomination for the Nobel Prize for Literature really.

If folk have time, they ought to sample a few -

Sound and comprehensive but I don't put the contributors in Andrew's league. He has a particular flavour to his match reports that seems to chime with my generation.

Yes it was Dunk, not sure why I said Berry, although I'm still in a bad mood as I can't stop thinking about the match and wondering how in god's name we could be so poor sometimes, so that could have something to do with it.

2 typos in the first paragraph of the Grimsby report doesn't bode well...

Typos! Hypos! I think he does it deliberately to check that we're paying attention :hypo:

That said, my response sounded more grudging than I intended. Cod Almighty, as a collective, is something we can only aspire to at the moment down the Abbey. We might get there one day, but for now it's one of the best and least pretentious around.

However, there's something about reading a match account that just captures the particular emotions you were feeling at some random moment with crystal clarity and a bit of poetry. Andrew manages it regularly for some of us on the Habbin or in the Travelling Amber Army. It's a bit hippy really.
