Looking at Exeter last week and thought we'd have to change the formation and tactics to have a chance, and we did, and boy did it work.

The change from a back 3 to a back 4 allowed us to cope with their wide players and to be honest we absolutely battered them. 1-0 completely flatters them. The 4-3-3 worked a treat.

Atkinson - I think a lot of people had forgot just how good he is because he's been out so long. Best defender at the club by a country mile, and can play as well. If he was bigger he'd have probably made it as a championship centre back.

Grainger - different player from last season, looks miles fitter.

Hery - ran the midfield today, did great in the build up to the goal.

Gilliead - what can I say? The lad is absolutely class. It's s good job we've got him for the season because on that basis Newcastle should be loaning him to the league above. He had McCallister on toast all afternoon until tisdale brought him off. His decision making and final ball will improve with more games and once Jabo is back, a front 3 of Gilliead, Ibehre and Asamoah will give someone a hiding sooner or later.

I hope we stick with these tactics even when Ibehre is back. We looked far less wide open and actually controlled a match from start to finish for the first time in a long time.

A few more games like that for Gilliead and he might've been looking at a Championship loan had he not just signed up for the season instead of just another month... seems very well grounded as well, good interview on the radio just.

Yeah I was wrong, but kind of right. I felt Wheeler and co would tear us s new one on the break if we'd persisted with our gung-ho 3 at the back open tactics, but credit to Curle he changed the system and the tactics today worked a treat. It was the most controlled dominant performance we've put in all season.

Top performance from Gilliead, best player on the park by a mile. I almost felt sorry for their full back, he was skinned time and time again. At times it was like the ball was glued to his feet, and though his end product wasn't quite there he looks a great prospect. Fitting that he got the winner.

The opening 25 minutes were a stalemate, thought Exeter were the better side. I'd say we dominated the rest of the game, Hery grew into the game and Atkinson was solid defensively.

Exeter could, and probably should, have equalised in the last minute. Would've been brutal.

Into the playoffs, with another clean sheet too. Happy days.

An image that perfectly encapsulates the story of the game

Meanwhile Curle ultimately decided that a sartorial contest with Mr Tisdale would be an unnecessary distraction. Do tracksuit managers normally wear football boots as well though, can't say it's something I've ever noticed.

Curle clearly knew it would be foolish to try and compete in a fashion off with Tis. If he had tried, it would have been embarssing with Curle in his H&M outfit trying to rival Tis in his pristine, Ted Baker attire.

There's a good couple here where he's just gone between two defenders... some good Gillead shots from yesterday, must have been a nice day for the photographer as it became predictable after a while that we were going to pass to Gillead and he was going to dance past someone. Looking for a couple of David Atkinson cropping someone pictures though, as that was as much a moment of enjoyment for me personally as Gillead's antics at the other end.

I'm all for ambition ...and it's not a dig at you lot cos Colchester , Crewe and Northampton to name but a few, are just as guilty , but why build stadiums on the off chance you have a good cup draw ?

Well to be honest the proposed Blue Yonder will have a lower capacity than Brunton Park. There's more to it than just ambition on behalf of the board. I suspect someone stands to gain somehow from the whole thing.

Because Knighton was quite ahead of his time Glasshalfful, however much he's not liked anymore and that his plans went totally wrong.

He knew back in 1994 well before most other clubs bothered, especially any down here that clubs needed a big expansive stand with mostly executive focus and plans to rake in money from all means except football. The early 90's idea for BP was a big facility with officers, restaurants, hotels, a lot based on drawing in corporate money.

of course he ran out of cash within 2 years and it all fell to bits and things turned nasty quickly, but we have a big stand due to grand ideas that failed (and at that time we were averaging 9,000 plus)

game was very comfortable really, first half very open for both sides but for some reason at half time Exeter seemed more happy to timewaste, sit back, go just for a point, had little interest going forward, brought on awful forwards for better ones......just let us play our game and they gave up.

meant it was very very comfortable and just a case of us being able to trun a mass of possession and crosses into an actual chance as we were not getting anything on target all game. Thankfully we got pretty much one chance on target and hit that in. fully deserved the win as we domintated the play, but we lacked a killer punch in the centre to capitalize on some great play on both wing areas.

sort've mixed bag off pitch witht he umerous p*ss take on our board with a limo full of Del Boy, Knighton and co driving up to the front door to hanf over a suitcase full of monopoly money being very funny, but then hearing some other off field stuff I didn't like....mixed bag.

Last season we had the lowest percentage capacity in the whole of the 92

We could fit all our fans for almost every game into the 6,000 capacity East stand... so glad though we haven't gone down that route.

i am not saying on here, but similar has been posted on Carlisle forum.

nothing in regards to problems at the actual club that isn't anything bad, just club sinking to new depths for me anyway with its methods.
