Looking at our next four games (Morecambe H, Accrington A, Barnet H, Orient A), we need to be getting 10 points I think. February looks a very tough month so we need to take full advantage.

Morecambe have found some form recently despite their off-field problems, whilst we've lost our last two. They did a job on us in this fixture last season, and Devitt was instrumental that game. Hopefully he has a similar impact for us, I think he'll start again.

It's not looking likely we'll have some new signings ahead of this game, but surely there'll be some defensive changes. Morecambe will almost certainly score (I don't think we've kept a clean sheet in nearly 20 games), but I think we'll score a few.

4-2 Wyke x3, Miller.
Ellison x2

Crazy to think that at the height of our good form that saw Keith Curle take the October manager of the month, nobody in the division had kept more clean sheets than we had, and only Plymouth and Luton had conceded fewer goals.

Our last clean sheet was against morecambe

No way we'll keep one here though.

I cannot think of suitable words to do justice to our defending at Colchester on Saturday, it was shocking.

We'll probably concede at least 2 goals, but I think we'll get our first point of 2017. 2-2.

A point? A point !? Where fray has this crazy new optimistic HG sprungeth? Is it the new avatar? Was gazing upon Rakish Bingham every time thou signeth on giving thou a Level 50 complex of inferiority? You've replaced him with someone a bit more workaday like Barcelona and can now see the light of us marching to a famous draw at home to Morecambe once more. Hallelujah praise the Lord*

*still Bingham.

Look closely...
Bingham is still in my profile pic, in his Barcelona days.

How do you think Messi got so good?

And to fair, the last 2 results I correctly predicted defeats. Quite close with the scorelines as well. Prior to that I'd predicted 9 points out of a possible 9.

I don't know how many games you've been to recently? But if you've been at the same games as me, you'll be thinking it will be a miracle if we only concede 2 on Saturday.

We've not exactly been defending well, and conceding two goals might have become the norm recently, but only in the last couple of games against decent attacks have we conceded more, so I don't know why you think Morecambe's attack being merely on a par with the likes of Doncaster and Yeovil would be a miracle.

Understatement of the year done and dusted and we're only 12 days in. If you were at Colchester you'd know exactly why I think Morecambe could buckle our defence. A Sunday morning pub team could have scored a hatful against us.

If we don't make big changes to that back 4, we'll concede 2 or more without a doubt.

Gillesphey at left back is horrific. I don't know what's happened to him but I can't remember him being this bad last season. He needs to be playing centre back or not at all. Raynes/Gillesphey has been our best CB pairing this season, those 2 should start.
Do I think it will happen? Nope.

I actually think without Jones our defence isn't getting enough help from the midfield, so I think we should put an extra man in there. Switch to a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 whatever you wanna call it.

and saying if Morecambe score two or less it will be a miracle isn't an overstatement at all? I'd put money on them scoring two. Hopefully we score three or more.

Yes, if we defend as a team like we did at Colchester, it will be a miracle if they score 2 or less. In fact it was quite a miracle that Colchester only scored 4 with the chances we gifted them.

When our own players are laying off inch perfect passes or headers for opposition forwards to run on goal to, it's hard to see how we won't concede a bucket load.

As I said in the Colchester match thread, even I was shocked by what I saw. It was the worst defensive performance I've seen from a Carlisle side since 2014. Please don't underestimate how bad it was. It was so bad that even the fact that we actually had more possession and moved the ball around very well going forward couldn't stop us from getting a hiding. And if it wasn't for them wasting a catalog of easy chances it would have been 7 or 8.

Now obviously we'll hopefully improve on Saturday and tighten up. A new midfielder to replace Jones would be a start, fingers crossed it happens!

I can't see us bringing anyone in at this stage of the week, sadly.

Just looking at the stats, Morecambe also concede bucket loads of goals, but aren't too bad going forward. I think it'll be a high-scoring game this weekend, hopefully we don't concede an early goal like we've done so often recently. A clean sheet would be really nice, but I can't see it.

Are you drunk? It doesn't matter how bad a defensive performance Colchester was, it's still a bit far fetched to presume that conceding at least three (something that hadn't happened in the league since last February) is the new baseline, because you saw it happen a couple of times.

I was yeah, but I still stand by my comments re our defence. It's atrocious and needs major work done on it. You can only really judge something on current form, and on current form we are conceding a lot of goals.

The last 3 times I've seen us (Crewe, Grimsby, Colchester) defensively its been woeful. Notts County sounded bad as well.

I hope they've had a good weeks training.

Sigh

So what are the bookie's odd on Morecambe scoring three or more? Because if they're offering anything longer than 1/2 then they're giving money away, they'll make major losses and this could be the end of the betting industry as we know it.

Just had a look at some odds for this one, Morecambe to score 2+ is 2/1 (3+ is 7/1) :£

Liddle to go straight into centre midfield? If so that'd allow Kennedy to move out wide which worked well before Jones' injury.

7/1!!! That long!? Who on earth do these bookies employ to calculate these odds? I'm handing in my notice at work and pawning my car as we speak... won't need a job once I've put everything I have on that little giveaway.

Liddle changes things for me.

If he plays in midfield as a direct replacement for Jones we win the game 3 or 4-1

If Gillesphey is playing at left back again then we're screwed.

Surely if Curle was watching his positioning, decision making and general shit tip of a performance at Colchester then I'd be amazed if he's starting at LB tomorrow.

What do we fancy then? Wright - Gillesphey - Raynes - Miller?

Ellis at left back is also a possibility, he played there one game this season and did well.

From his brief appearance last week, McQueen looks like he's built himself up a bit and got himself really fit. Wright looked like a child.

McQueen at left back for me, he's played there before in his time at Spurs.

Liddle is playing centre back by the look of that lineup

Not ideal to be honest, I think we need him in midfield. Hopefully it works out

Pretty woeful stuff so far.

Liddle is good with the ball, I'd like him pushed further forward he might make stuff happen. Maybe bring Raynes on.

Pure shite. That first 20 minutes was appalling, dominated from then on but didn't feel like we'd score until the red card.

It's beginning to look like playoffs for us.
