I haven't seen the highlights yet (and might not bother) but I had wondered who allowed the free header for the first, my friend texted me to say it was Parkes, also he thought after Jones' error that led to the second, Parkes should have been able to cover it. Before knowing those two things, I did have him down as one of the better players on the day, but we take good defenders and make them rubbish.

The calamitous defence thing goes back to before Curle too. It seems like no matter who's playing for us and who's managing us, we will always gift at least one goalscoring opportunity to our opponents each and every game. Not sure how we can blame the owners for problems in one specific part of the pitch but they're the constant throughout all this.

I can't remember the last time we had anything close to a competent defence, probably back when Kev Gray was bossing things.

We had a very good defence the season after Gray left. Murphy and Livesey in the 07/08 season when we lost to Leeds in the playoffs. But they had Kieran Westwood behind them which would have been a big help!

Other than that, I remember in 10/11 we started the season with Ian Harte and James Chester as our centre backs. That was decent but we sold Harte by the end of August and replaced him with Lubo Michalik, and then James Chester was gone in January, so it didn't last long.

That defence we had at the start of 10/11 was probably the last good defence we had and you must remember we also had Frank Simek at right back and Sean McDaid on the left with Thirlwell and Tom Taiwo in holding positions. We won the JPT that season and had a fairly decent league season to start off with before injuries hurt us.

Just shows that having a solid defence can make a team confident in itself.

When was the last time we even had a competent centre back? Sean O'Hanlon maybe?

The Carlisle whingeathon is in full swing and we're still in August. And people want a single match thread. :ffs:

Cambridge next up... Cambridge away always brings back memories of that five-nil hiding you gave us, should that happen again then you'll really see meltdown.

Try getting all the bird shit off your seats for starters. Filthy Jocks!

I do apologise Dan on behalf of our fans at the state of our club and our ground that is run like an old boys club, yes there is bird shit everywhere, there is not enough catering staff and there are fears of asbestos being in the roof of our old main stand.

All I can say is welcome back to League Two!

Here is a tune quite fitting for our clubs situation, just listen to it, it explains it all:

There was one game last season where they had to move fans from a section of the paddock because one of the TV aerials on the main stand was hanging by a thread and looked like it could come crashing down any minute.

I blame these 3 stubborn old pillocks. I mean just look at em.

It's an absolute joke Shoddy mate and they have got away with it for far too long.

Ours is no palace, but at least the seats are clean. No excuse really - you've had all close season.

You mean THEY'VE had all season to clean it up, the morons who run our club.

Anyway good luck for the rest of the season.

Just seen this tweet of the second goal, obviously not conclusive but does look like he handles it in. He posted one of a ridiculous dive too, which went unpunished.

Could've been a different outcome had it remained 1-0 but we didn't deserve anything either way.

There seems to be bird shit everywhere.

From what I understand the place has been cleaned of it numerous times over the summer but they keep coming back and shitting again.

It's like a flock of about a thousand birds have decided that Brunton Park is their facility for depositing their daily fresh loads.

Is that David Cameron on the far right?

That was the day we were relegated to League Two, at least Jenkins' facial expression suggests he knows the extent of the shit we were in, the other two look like they're having a grand day out.

A bit late to the party but I've been thinking over giving some player ratings the last couple of days. Here's mine.

Bonham (6) - despite being pretty good at claiming and keeping hold of the ball, his kicking was a bit dodgy. Couldn't do anything about either goal but still didn't inspire total confidence.

T.Miller (5) - pretty much anonymous throughout until sacrificed in search of an equaliser

Grainger (4) - one of his worst games since being played out of position in his first season, almost every attempt to pass either went out of play or hit a Swindon Player

Parkes (6.5) - would have been a 7 or 7.5 as for the most part he looked like the no-nonsense defender we've been crying out for, however he loses a point for being the one to allow the free header for Swindon's first and for the fact he could have done more to prevent the second, went off injured.

Liddle (7) - actually one of his better efforts at centre back. Just felt he left too much space at times, drifting out wide into his natural position a lot.

Joyce (7) - Not a bad performance by any stretch, took a couple of shots and took his goal well. Adequate to decent performance.

Jones (4) - His worst performance in a Carlisle shirt. Unforced error for their second and soon after almost gifted them a third, among other instances of giving the ball away.

Lambe (7.5) - Had some decent spells and did his shift defensively, particularly when asked to cover at right back, but at the great expense of what he can offer at the other end of the pitch, didn't trouble the attacking third much.

Devitt (8) - Earned his MOM performance, unlucky not to score, caused problems for the Swindon back-line and but for some better support could really have shone, hopefully a sign of more to come.

Adams (7) - Adequate, showed flashes of what he could do and gave the defenders some work to do, but they were able to restrict him for the most part and let down by a few poor corners.

Hope (6) - Would be harsh to slate him since he was totally misused, gets credit for workrate and willingness to chase the game but not able to mark him up for anything really.

S. Miller (7) - Going two up front in the second half meant more attacking pressure from us and we certainly looked more dangerous with him on the pitch.

Ellis (7) - Competent enough, came close to scoring as well.

Bennett (6.5) - Added height and physicality to the forward line, but will need more time to settle in to this level, really should have done better with a late headed chance.

It's hard to tell. He certainly didn't head it in that's for sure. It either went in off the Swindon lads fist, or the bottom of Jones' boot.
