Agreed, they were the better team the last time they played at the Bernabeu, and Real - as usual - got lucky in order to progress. Hoping for a 5 - 5 with 3 sent off for Real and Ronaldo to get his hair messed up so he has to take a month off to get over the shock of it.

Ok, so Bayern were much the better side that first half. This is especially because Real are deploying a pressing game pre-dating 1970s football to accomodate Ronaldo who's been as invisible as he always is nowadays. Now this doesn't hurt Real so much because they play with two strikers and Benzema actually does other stuff than wait around for a scoring opportunity for himself, but that whole having a striker covered by a central midfielder on the right side of defense is the real kicker for Madrid. Going up against Alaba and a to be fair aging Ribery is one thing, to do it without wide players on that flank is another.

But none of this really matters because Bayern in their 4-2-3-1 are reliant on having a striker able to complete anything at all, like any 4-2-3-1. And no matter what Lewa tries, from holding up the ball to simple passes to finishing, he fails spectacularly making Ronaldo seem like a team player because even though Varane was Bayern's best attacker this first half, that was world class defending from Lewa.

It's been three halves, get Lewa off, play Müller up front and Bayern will win this. Real are there for the taking.
